Re: [Emc-users] TLO: value modified

2021-07-14 Thread John Dammeyer
Oh and mucking around with the Machinist Toolbox I found I was pretty well on
for the speeds and feeds.

Wrought Aluminium (don't know what alloy I was using)
Surface speed of 65.5 FPM results in 1000 RPM and 5.75 IPM feed rate. I ran
1000 RPM and 5 IPM.

Cast Aluminium
Surface speed of 65.5 FPM results in 1000 RPM and 5.75 IPM feed rate.

Free Machining Steel is
Surface speed 26.2FPM results in 400 RPM and 1 IPM feed rate.

I ran the tap at 200 RPM into the aluminium. Not sure what it should be for
steel. Maybe 100 RPM?

Re: [Emc-users] TLO: value modified

2021-07-14 Thread John Dammeyer
Alright. Fixed I think...

1. Edited the values in the INI file to show X and Y in the tool table from
here: #3 Column selections.
http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/gui/tooledit.html
2. Cleared out the erroneous X value.
3. Went through the process of adding a #7 drill bit and 1/4-20 spiral tap that
arrived from amazon.ca today.
4. Promptly had a Y offset...

Hmmm. Turns out that if you have an HB04 MPG (others may do the same) that
twisting the axis selection knob, to select which axis the MPG moves, does
_not_ change the radio button on the AXIS display.

In my case I'd used the keyboard to move roughly over the 123 block area
sitting on the vise so I could then dial in the Tool Offset which I did with
the MPG. Once the block no longer bumped against the tool but slid under I
grabbed the mouse and clicked "Tool Touch Off" it immediately set a Y axis
offset for that tool. I saw it change from 0. to some non zero value.
That's when I noticed the radio button for y was still on.

Editing the tool table showed that offset hand been entered into the now
displayed Y value. Easy to set to 0. Do the reload etc. Then select the
radio button for Z and click "Tool Touch Off". All good now. Y stayed 0 and Z
changed.

Now thinking about it I've been caught by that a few times but it was never an
issue.

So now the question is, with the Pendant, is it possible to change the axis
radio button if the pendant MPG sends out motion for the appropriate axis?

Re: [Emc-users] TLO: value modified

2021-07-14 Thread John Dammeyer
The tool table menu doesn't show the XY values. I can probably edit the
correct value in the tool table file and then restart LCNC but what the heck
did I do in the first place to set it?

I'm going to guess that when I clicked on set tool zero I had X radio button
clicked, not Z. So it set an offset from something into the tool offsets.

I've tried loading tool 1 and using the above approach but it doesn't seem to
change X.

Try opening the tool table from the drop-down menu. I forget which drop down
it is. Then you can modify the offsets manually.

[Emc-users] TLO: value modified

2021-07-14 Thread John Dammeyer
Somehow I've put an offset into the X axis for Tool #1. In the expanded
display it shows up. Load tool #2 and it's not there and then a G0 x0.5 y0.0
goes to an entirely different X location.

First. How did I accidentally modify it?
How do I fix it?

Thanks

Interesting idea, thanks!
