Re: [Emc-users] MPG Handwheel for use with 7i73

2016-02-07 Thread rick
We do need the whole pendant, I found these same ones on eBay, with a 2-3 week
delivery. The ones we normally buy are 3-4 weeks, and cost $150 plus shipping.

We broke the stems off of the selector switches on one of the pendants on one
of our turning centers, so I stole the unit off of our machining center
temporarily.

The selectors are pcb mounted, and I'm not near talented enough to unsolder the
13 little pins out of the sockets, and solder the new ones back in.

Will this be an acceptable handwheel to use with a 7i73?

It says
 - Required 5V+, 150mA, power for MPG
 - Phase output is A ,/A and B,/B;
 - TTL output, drive capability +-20mA;

Not sure about the "TTL" part

Surely there is someone local to you that does do soldering?

Some do have the "knack" and some don't.

I spent 6 months trying to teach a boy/man who wanted to be my assistant
how to solder back in the late '80's, something I've been doing in my
sleep for about 70 years now, and failed miserably having to go back
over everything myself. But he is smart & creative, so he has been our
commercial production manager/editor for the last 20 years. Might lose
him though, he's thrown his hat in the ring & running for County
Assessor this time around.

I'd offer, but my hands are beginning to get a bit shaky now.

Re: [Emc-users] MPG Handwheel for use with 7i73

2016-02-07 Thread Dave Cole
A lot of vendors twist verbiage about what is what.
If it is TTL then it should be singled ended - ala - the voltage output
will vary between something less than .7 volts as a low value and
something above 3.7 volts as a high level.
The A not will simply be the inversion of the A signal, but the signal
will still vary between something less than .7 volts and something above
3.7 volts.
A line driver (typically described by the line driver chip that is
emulates) is usually a bipolar signal at the output and the receiver is
a differential amplifier. The combo is much more noise
immune than a single ended TTL type encoder output which can easily be
corrupted by common mode noise.The two (line driver and ttl ) are
generally not compatible. However there are chips that you can buy
that will convert a TTL single ended signal to a line driver output and
visa versa.

[Emc-users] MPG Handwheel for use with 7i73

2016-02-02 Thread Rick Lair
This is mainly directed at PCW, but after looking at this,

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/CNC-Pulse-Generator-4-Axis-MPG-Pendant-Handwheel-Emergency-Stop-for-Siemens-FAGOR-GSK/2009058806.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.1.ZvKjv2_ab_test=searchweb201556_6,searchweb201644_2_505_506_503_504_502_10014_10001_10002_10016_10005_10006_10003_10004,searchweb201560_2,searchweb1451318400_-1,searchweb1451318411_6449=3161ee1c-584a-403d-94ec-f8a52a7c24f0

Will this be an acceptable handwheel to use with a 7i73?

It says
 - Required 5V+, 150mA, power for MPG
 - Phase output is A ,/A and B,/B;
 - TTL output, drive capability +-20mA;

Not sure about the "TTL" part
