Richard,
this looks to me as if the card shortened the PC data bus partially. The
PCI contacts are very narrow spaced and may almost overlap in height.
Are you sure that the card is inserted correctly and pressed down fully
to the bottom of the socket? Did you try a different socket and a

I'd contact Peter at Mesa
Interfering with the hard drive seems like a very odd problem.

My unqualified guess is that 5i25 card is not recognized.
I will leave this for more knowledgeable users to comment.

No, 5i25 is different from other Mesa pci cards, the firmware is
loaded and stored right in the card. When I purchased my 5

Is your PC now finding the 5i25 card when you do lspci ??
If not, you will never get anything to load onto the card since the PC
doesn't recognize that the card exists.
If lspci doesn't show the card you should probably try the card in a
different PC and see if the OS recognizes the card.

You must have a
firmware=whatever.bit
somewhere... Could it be in your hal file? Otherwise I don't think it will
work..

Do You have a chance to attach the HDD and 5i25 to another motherboard
for a test to see,

Paste Your INI and HAL files somewhere for public review.
No, I only changed the config line as I understood you to say
Richard# ###
wow - sorry about that
[HOSTMOT2]
DRIVER=hm2_pci
BOARD=5i23
CONFIG="firmware=hm2/5i23/SVST8_4.BIT num_encoders=0 num_pwmgens=0
num_stepgens=3"
should be
[HOSTMOT2]
DRIVER=hm2_pci
BOARD=5i25
CONFIG="num_encoders=0 num_pwmgens=0 num_stepgens=3"
From what I understand.

I think you need to re-read this...
2) remove the "firmware = [path/to/firmware/file]" part of the "config ="
line, keep any commands for loading stepgens, pwmgens or encoder
modules, if they are needed for Your machine.
I read that as...
DRIVER=hm2_pci
B
OARD=5i23
C
ONFIG="firmware=hm2/5i2
