Hello,

thanks for this feedback.

As a programmer I fully agree.
We (programmers and translators) have the same goal here,
because the current mess is a problem for programming and
maintenance of the code.

We didn't though have enough time to clean things up for 1.7.
Sorry for that.

I promise that it will become better.

Best
 Nico

It would also be nice if you give the labels and accesskeys the
same name. For instance, now there's a label called
 enigmail.keyMan.keyProps.label with accesskey called
enigmail.keyMan.keyDetails.accesskey. This makes it very hard to
find the correct accesskey, because you first have to find the xul
 file where it is used.

Structuring the dtd and properties files so that label and
accesskey are together would also be nice, because that way you can
see at a glance that the accesskey is in the label and you only
have to worry about choosing unique accesskeys...

I second this proposal. It can be very hard to choose the right
access keys, not knowing to which label they correspond and also
what access keys are already used in the corresponding context
 (dialog, menu).

You mean to change to pool.sks-keyservers.net, keys.gnupg.net,

These were the keyservers which did work when testing this change in
january.

I'm also considering that enigmail.keyservers.sample will be
modified in ja-JP locale shown below.

pool.sks-keyservers.net (current best pool) pgp.nic.ad.jp (most
famous and largest keyserver in Japan; the problem is that this
server seems to be not maintained any more. It still uses PKS
 0.9.6!)

I'd strongly advocate against using outdated keyservers. PKS 0.9.6 is
11 years old. I don't know if this version is one of those known to
mangle subkeys.

ldap://certserver.pgp.com (as an example of ldap access)

This server is no longer accessible. It still has an DNS record, but
every try to access it results in timeouts. I don't know of any other
public LDAP server. LDAP protocol is mainly used in corporate
networks. It's a pity that there's no working public example.

 Yes, we removed it.

why? the currently listed example keyservers are:

 sks.dnsalias.net, pgp.mit.edu, ldap://certserver.pgp.com

We didn't remove it. Blame shows that this line in
ui/locale/en-US/enigmail.dtd wasn't changed since january 2004.
Patrick probably refers to changes in the default keyserver list in
packape/prefs/enigmail.js in commits
9846b799cf424fd1dc3246c604cc996419dff62e and
59e62cfbd6ced97d8608b49785aa8628e3bfcd6e.

I think that keeping the pool in the example is probably a better
for resilience, redundancy, and not putting too much strain on any
individual keyserver. I suspect that people who don't know what
to choose for this will copy/paste the defaults. It'd be nice to
give them a default that's the well-maintained global pool.

I agree that adding pool.sks-keyservers.net to
enigmail.keyservers.sample string or better: adapting this line to the
changed default keyserver list is a good idea. However, this string is
in the files affected by the just started translation process.
Probably this change must be done after collecting the translated
files from babelzilla and before release of Enigmail 1.7. I leave the
decision to Patrick.
