I installed e17 yesterday and was facing the same problem: whenever I clicked
on an .odt file my default text editor was invoked (GVim for me), no matter
how many times I opened the file with "open with..." or assigned
Settings -> Default Applications -> General ->
application/vnd.oasis.opendo
