As i observed, thats because of this:
make[1]: Leaving directory `/opt/DEVEL/e_modules/monitor'
make: *** [install] Error 1
just rm or move monitor dir away - make works like a charm
;)

Good time of day/night to List!
Here is my small contribution to e17 - e17 cvs build script.
Adapt variables as needed, run, and in 10 - 15 minutes you will have
fresh e17.
Please note, you will need tcl-devel, fbdevel, tk-devel (and posible
more of these) to successefully compile e17.
