I'm sorry - the upgrade was to 3.1.3 not 3.1.2.
Don't have Gnome installed but if I use a non-kde app like Mozilla or Gimp the
file dialogs are fine.
The minimize memory use setting is local browsing only. I'll look about for
something from the Cooker.
An interesting work around - if you have
Mandrake just released a few hours ago kde 3.1.3 to the mandrake club
members. If you don't have the file dialog problem fixed
you might try downloading the mandrake version , if you aren't a
mandrakeclub member you might try a non mandrake mirror site or
another download site that has mandrake

This weekend I upgraded Mandrake 9.1 from KDE 3.1.0 to 3.1.2. All works well
with one exception - the the File Dialog doesn't work. Rather than what I
would expect I get a full screen, empty X Window box with a close icon in the
top right corner. The dialog is missing from all K apps -
I just installed KDE 3.1.1 via Konstruct (the Garball thing for KDE).
It's installed and I'm playing around with it, customizing things.
The one thing I'd like to customize is the way Alt-Tab works to cycle
through windows. I can't find any way to configure it and am guessing
it's hidden
