https://www.autoblog.com/2019/04/19/zero-labs-ford-bronco-ev-restomod/ Electric Ford Bronco from Zero Labs enters the restomod fray It has a 190-mile range and is built on a restored Bronco chassis Apr 19th 2019 Zac Palmer [images / Zero Labs http://s.blogcdn.com/slideshows/images/slides/756/463/2/S7564632/slug/l/electric-ford-bronco-by-zero-labs-2.jpg http://s.blogcdn.com/slideshows/images/slides/756/462/6/S7564626/slug/l/electric-ford-bronco-by-zero-labs-1.jpg Electric Ford Bronco by Zero Labs Zero Labs plans to build electric original Ford Bronco http://s.blogcdn.com/slideshows/images/slides/756/464/2/S7564642/slug/l/electric-ford-bronco-by-zero-labs-1.jpg ] Excitement over a new Ford Bronco from Ford has been feverish for awhile now, and that has only encouraged people to make original Broncos new again. There are a number of these projects out there, but today we get to tell you about one that is rather unique. Let us introduce you to the Ford Bronco made by Zero Labs. It's not like all the others, because it happens to be electric. You could deduce such a fact just by looking at the front end's lack of a grille, but the rest of the truck looks a whole lot like a normal first generation two-door Bronco. Zero Labs bills itself as a company that is going to produce electric versions of classic cars, but this is the first vehicle it has plans to make. The company is based out of Southern California and was founded in 2015. A ton of the details vary substantially compared to what the original Bronco looked like, but we'd say it's easily recognizable. Zero Labs even managed to use the "Ford" and "Bronco" logos on the vehicle. If you're a fan of the original Bronco but still dig electric cars, it's almost impossible to go wrong with this design. We love it, and we imagine many others will, too. As for the technical side of things, Zero Labs says it starts with an original Bronco chassis, then restores it and rebuilds from there. In place of a gasoline burning engine, Zero Labs has fitted a 70-kWh lithium-ion battery pack hooked up to a BorgWarner permanent magnet electric motor — no source was provided for the battery pack as of now. Some key specs were provided. It has a 190-mile range and makes 369 horsepower. It's capable of Level 2 charging, but no time estimates are available. Zero Labs says it's capable of "part time/full four-wheel drive." They use Currie front and rear differentials, an Atlas two-speed transfer case and a five-speed manual transmission to send the power to the ground. You don't see manual transmissions in electric cars often, but you can do it, especially with conversions. Zero Labs decided to fit an adjustable Fox coilover suspension to help you out when off-roading, too. It has a modern braking system now with six-piston Brembos up front. We'll assume that's necessary to slow down the Bronco with a heavy battery pack in it. The materials used throughout the vehicle are all pretty astonishing. Body panels were redesigned and many are now made out of carbon fiber. Walnut and bamboo panels grace the interior of the Bronco, along with both leather and "vegan" interior material options. Zero Labs does a lot of the interior work by hand. We're pretty blown away by the incredible combination of modernity and classic touches on the interior. You're probably wondering how much something like this costs, but Zero Labs does not have a price yet for its Ford Bronco electric restomod. You can place a reservation for free, though. Another pivotal bit of information we don't have is a delivery or on-sale date. However, Zero Labs says it has plans to make 150 "first edition" vehicles like the one you see here. There are some videos that are a bit spacey on the company's website you can check out here [ https://www.zerolabs.com/media ], if you want to see the electric Bronco in motion. The latest one is from Oregon. New Flyer of America (New Flyer), which is a subsidiary of NFI Group, North America’s largest bus manufacturer, has delivered a zero-emission battery-electric Xcelsior CHARGE bus to the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet). Indicating just how slowly the bus industry can move, TriMet placed the order for 5 of New Flyer’s 40-foot Xcelsior CHARGE buses back in September 2017. TriMet and Portland General Electric (PGE) also acquired 6 ABB chargers and for the buses. The joint project received $3.4 million from the Federal Transit Administration’s 2016 Low and No Emission (Low-No) Vehicle Deployment Program, part of the impetus for the trial. TriMet is now using this first electric bus in the Portland, Oregon metro area — on the 13-mile Line 62–Murray Blvd. route. You may be wondering now, “hey, I thought they were getting 5 buses.” Indeed, the other 4 Xcelsior CHARGE buses are scheduled to arrive this summer for a fully electric bus route. If you’re familiar with the area, this is what the company press release has to say about the details of the coming route: “The buses will operate between the Sunset Transit Center and Washington Square Transit Center, with depot chargers installed at TriMet’s Merlo Operating Facility and one on-route charger installed at the Sunset Transit Center to rapidly recharge batteries each round trip.” The electric buses will benefit from regional wind power to provide zero-emissions transport from electricity generation to movement of the buses themselves. “Transit inherently plays an important role in reducing emissions and easing congestion,” said Doug Kelsey, General Manager, TriMet. “Now, as our first all-electric bus rolls into service powered by the wind, we are furthering our commitment to the environment and are at the forefront of a cleaner future, both for TriMet and the Portland, Oregon region.” If you’re in the right portions of the Portland area, be sure to check out the electric buses and remind everyone you talk to of their health and climate benefits. The Tesla Model Y has big shoes to fill. The compact crossover chases the lauded Model 3, with promises of a three-row layout, Long Range and Performance trims, all-wheel drive, and a starting price of about £30,000 (in 2021). But here's one option Tesla neglected to mention during its presentation: a rugged off-road trim. Our rendering artists dreamt up this tough-looking Tesla for the trail. Think an off-road-focused Model Y sounds ridiculous? Don't be so sure. Consider all the otherwise un-tough vehicles available with these same cues: Kia Soul X-Line, Ford Focus Active, Mazda CX-30, Toyota RAV4 Adventure – the list goes on. Not to mention, the larger Model X isn't half bad at off-roading itself. All you need to know about the Model Y: Tesla Model Y compact SUV revealed with 300-mile range Tesla Model Y First Glimpse Revealed For what it's worth, the proposed Model Y off-roader probably won't take the fight to Jeep, but it looks tough enough for most consumers. Cues like black cladding over the wings and side sills, a faux, front-mounted skid plate with a new grille piece, and a slightly raised ride height help distinguish this virtual off-roader over the road-going real thing. As far as performance, don't expect anything outside of the current Model Y range. The Standard Range Model Y returns up to 230 miles between charges and can sprint to 60 miles per hour in 5.9 seconds. The Long Range model returns 300 miles while giving the Tesla the ability to hit 60 in a slightly quicker 5.5 seconds. At the top of the lineup, the Performance model gets 280 miles on a single charge, but sprints to 60 in just 4.8 seconds. The Tesla Model Y goes on sale next year – but the base £30,000 Standard Range model isn't available until 2021. Not only do they help in keeping the environment safe by reducing emissions, but they are also far less noisy and quite economical. That’s not where the list of benefits end; electric vehicles are also fast enough to take on the famous conventional car brands in drag races. However, they feature enormous battery packs that can become the reason for strong fires if they are punctured. Firefighters all over the world have to be prepared for this because this is new and would soon become a regular occurrence as the electric cars become more and more common. So what do you do when an electric vehicle catches fire? An amazing video from Brock Archer shows the considerations that you must weigh in when handling fire caused by hybrid or electric vehicle. The video also explains tactics that are effective. While the most obvious way of extinguishing an electric fire that was caused by a punctured lithium-ion batter is by throwing water on it, many response teams would typically make use of dry chemicals or foam for taking out the fire. The thing is that this approach won’t work with the EVs. The best way to take out such fires is by using the old-fashioned way of throwing water. You can see in the video that a constant stream of water directed at the battery is the most optimal way of cooling down and ultimately extinguishing the fire. Whether you are dealing with a fire in your vehicle or helping someone else out, do not try to open the battery or touch any of the parts that have high voltage. These areas are the most likely recipient of heat and cause severe injury to you. Electric vehicle owners, nay, all drivers must carry an up to date high-volume fire extinguisher with them ... [EVDL] ggeva.org N.SF EVangelists> EVs are 4x cheaper/mi than ice
https://www.marinij.com/2019/04/20/electric-car-evangelists-seek-converts-in-marin/ Electric-car evangelists seek converts in Marin April 20, 2019 Adrian Rodriguez San Rafael resident Dale Miller says that for the sake of the environment, it’s time to switch to an electric vehicle. “Our goal is to dispel the myths and to promote electric vehicles,” said Miller, president of the Golden Gate Electric Vehicle Association. “They are fun to drive, cost less to drive, are very low maintenance and are far better on the environment with respect to slowing climate change.” To accomplish the mission, the nonprofit association puts on educational events such as Drive Electric Earth Day, an event held Saturday in Novato as part of a national campaign to share information about the gas-free, zero-emissions vehicles. At the Drive Electric Earth Day booth, potential buyers learned about the makes and models from a variety of dealers and even got a chance to take them out for a spin. It was presented in partnership with the city of Novato and MCE, formerly Marin Clean Energy. “This is a chance to check out these cars in a low-pressure environment,” Miller said. Founded in 2004 as the San Francisco Electric Vehicle Association, the group changed its name in 2011 to the Golden Gate Vehicle Association to better reflect the communities it serves: San Francisco and Marin counties. The all-volunteer effort is the local chapter of the Electric Auto Association, a nonprofit educational organization. Miller said that in Marin, approximately 60 percent of the greenhouse gases are produced from vehicles with internal combustion engines, and that the longer the drivers keep their gas cars, the longer they cause climate change. Miller said the group wants residents to know that there is an electric car for every lifestyle. There are a variety of EV models from two passenger cars to seven-passenger SUVs. On a single charge, EVs can travel up to 335 miles. “And they’re not as expensive as people think,” Miller said. They can start as low as $23,900, and maintenance is minimal. The days of oil changes, smog checks, and replacing spark plugs, fuel pumps or starters is over with electric, he said. Miller said the financial benefits to owning an EV are countless. Electric car buyers are eligible for up to $7,500 in federal tax credits, which can be applied for lower lease payments. There is also a $2,500 California rebate to lease or buy an EV. Residents can learn how to apply for these rebates at ggeva.org/financial.html, Miller said. When it comes to gas costs, he said electric cars run a tab of about 3 cents per mile, whereas gas is more like 12 cents. There are also local incentives through the county of Marin and electricity providers such as MCE, which Miller encourages residents to learn more about. MCE offers three core electric vehicle programs, including EV charging at workplaces and multi-family housing, as well as vehicle rebates for income-qualified customers. Brett Wiley, customer programs manager for MCE, said it’s complicated to navigate the options and incentives for electric vehicles, but MCE staffers are available to help. “EVs are dependable, healthier for our local air, and affordable,” he said. For example, gas-powered cars have twice the fuel costs and three times the maintenance costs of an EV.” One hurdle keeping people from buying electric is the perceived lack of charging stations, Wiley said. Today, there are 61 publicly-available charging ports in San Rafael, according to the Department of Energy. There will be at least 165 ports in San Rafael a year from now. “All told, MCE will have funded and supported the installation of 90 percent of these ports,” Wiley said. MCE is working to install 600 Level 2 charging ports for workplaces and multi-family housing and to support access to EVs for 100 income-qualified customers, Wiley said. James Campbell, a Belvedere resident and city councilman, made the switch to electric vehicles a few years back after talking to Miller about the many benefits. “When I drive up into my carport and see the solar panels on my roof that are charging my Tesla batteries that are fueling my car, it feels pretty cool,” he said. Miller said this is the type of joy they hope to spread by encouraging others to go electric. “Our main thing is to get people excited about these cars,” Miller said. “We’re always looking for new members, too.” [© marinij.com] + https://www.sustainability-times.com/green-consumerism/electric-vehicles-are-gaining-ground-in-the-u-s/ Electric vehicles are gaining ground in the US April 19, 2019 ... last year EVs began to gain some ground in the country, market research shows ... https://www.sustainability-times.com/wp-content/uploads/thumbs/car-1209912_960_720-38d2858vmous57dvwt7aww.jpg ...

[EVDL] AV EVSE-RS making arcing sounds when charging: ... Bolt issue
[ref http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/J1772-Bolt-issue-tp4693386.html ] That j1772 EV-charger (EVSE) goes way back (~2010) to when Aerovironment was in the EVSE business (they have since quit that). I've used it a couple of times when I was driving a loaner production EV back then. But I haven't owed one of these, nor would I purchase one. I am glad it works well with your Leaf, but I always felt it was cheaply made, flimsy, that as a home EVSE it might be OK, but not for regular use as a busy public EVSE spot. Re: [EVDL] OT: Wind boost converters
Quoting jim via EV : Charging my Tesla using PV/wind energy should be on topic. I tried not to digress and get off topic. Again, I say thanks for answering my questions. I have worked with wind power since 1970 so I was aware of and agree with everything in Mr Erdman's post. I appreciate receiving the information on boost converters...Ron Solberg The 1800 watt Jacobs didn't make more power than the 2500 or 2800 models. They all had the same blade and governor assembly (which may have been either flyball or blade controlled) so they put out the same power in the same windspeed up to a point, but the 1800 was a shorter machine (length of armature) and its maximum amp output was about 45 amps, while the 2500 maxed at 60+ amps and the 2800 at a bit more--but it took a slightly stronger wind for the bigger machines to reach maximum output. The Bergeys and most other modern machines are actually 3-phase, rather than brush type DC generators like the Jacobs, and their power characteristics and method of control are quite different.Don't forgeet th basic rule of thumb when siting a wind turbine "30 feet higher than anything within 500 feet". [EVDL] Who's recharging-from green/renewable electricity: EV Digest, Vol 78, Issue 23
[ref http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/Re-EV-Digest-Vol-78-Issue-23-tp4693364.html ] Occasionally I post a 'ding' http://onlineslangdictionary.com/meaning-definition-of/ding item like that item to show 'these are out there and the public believes them'. EVangels will run into the public repeating/parroting this mis-information. To answer the posed question, I am not recharging an EV at this time, but my local (San Antonio, TX) utility does offer a way to pay for renewable electrons https://www.cpsenergy.com/en/solr_search.html?q=renewable=language:en This is similar to what I had (1990-2000) when I lived in an apartment in Silicon Valley, CA. The local utility pge.com touted a mix, but to really get clean electrons there were companies back then that you would pay to get cleaner electrons. At that time, I was recharging at home off a 200' long extension cord connected to my 14-50 oven outlet running out a window to the car port connected to one of my 3kW chargers. It cost about 20% more, but it was still cheap. So, for renter who is restricted/limited to not having a pv installation like home owners do, paying for cleaner electrons worked ok for me. Here are searches as examples, but replace my zip-code for yours. https://www.google.com/search?q=green+electricity+94086 searching for green electricity in silicon valley https://www.google.com/search?q=renewable+electricity+94086 If I remember right,, at the time I was using green mt., but they may not service that area now. But, other companies do, see https://www.svcleanenergy.org/residential-rates/ As I hope to change from being an apartment dweller to being a home owner soon, I will be looking into adding solar to that home. But, I would not want to try to sell my pv power back to the local grid. TX locals told me I would do better (more co$t effective) to invest in a powerwall (or similar) to store that pv power for after-dark use, etc. Meanwhile, I could search for what green sources are here in TX ... https://www.google.com/search?q=renewable+electricity+78229 Btw, TX has several solar programs http://www.ocisolarpower.com/texas-utilities/ as well as several large wind farms https://www.cpsenergy.com/content/corporate/en/about-us/programs-services/energy-generation/wind/windtricity.html Bottom line: -an apt dweller could recharge off renewable electrons if they wanted to.
