[EVDL] EVLN: Gompertz's 2008 Subaru Forester 4WD EV @montana.edu show
http://www.nbcmontana.com/news/msu-hosts-electric-car-show-for-earth-week/32537164 MSU hosts electric car show for Earth Week By Shellye Leggett [20150423] [image http://www.nbcmontana.com/image/view/-/32537120/medRes/1/-/maxh/360/maxw/640/-/j2seid/-/Still0423-2-jpg.jpg (open hood shot) ] BOZEMAN, Mont. - On display Thursday at MSU, a group of unique vehicles for students to admire part of a special car show as the university celebrates Earth Week. Ron Gompertz has been driving an electric vehicle since 2006. I've always enjoyed having unusual sports cars, vintage cars, restoring old cars, said Gompertz. He bought a regular Subaru in 2008 and spent two years turning it into an electric car. This vehicle here is a do-it-yourself Subaru designed for Montana's all season weather and it retains the Subaru's 4-wheel drive system, but it drives 100 percent electric battery, said Gompertz. His car was one of a half dozen on display Thursday at the Centennial Mall on campus at MSU. This is not a regular car show, this is a car show only for electric vehicles, said MSU NECO Vice President Katie Nolan. Event organizers said the car show was part of Earth Week at MSU. Electric vehicles actually are more energy efficient than gasoline vehicles, said Nolan. Gompertz explained one thing that makes his vehicle stand out from regular cars. I've never had an oil change, never had a tune up, said Gompertz. And he said re-charging is easy. You can charge like you would any other chargeable device, said Gompertz. But, he said, electric cars are not for everyone. They can cost more up front and while some cars can go just as fast as any vehicle and the charge lasts a couple of days, others only reach speeds of 35 mph and hold a charge for one day. Electric cars are primarily used for local driving, said Gompertz. But as students stopped by to admire the cars, Gompertz said he hopes to spread awareness and help celebrate Earth Week. This was the electric car show's fourth year, hosted by the Network of Environmentally Conscious Organizations. [EVDL] EVLN: 310mi Electric Audi Q6 Version Arrival 2018

The new vehicle was also said to be coming with an all-electric “e-tron” variant that would rival Tesla Motors’ upcoming Model X and offer a range of at least 310 miles on a single charge. Now, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler has revealed a few more details on the vehicle. Speaking with Auto Express, Stadler said the vehicle will arrive by 2018 and that the arrival will coincide with some major developments in the area of charging infrastructure. The developments in charging infrastructure the Audi chief is referring to is the roll out of Tesla Supercharger-like rapid charging stations. “We think the infrastructure will be sufficient in terms of supercharging,” he told the British publication, adding that the government in China, for example, is looking to install rapid charge facilities along major highways. In addition to the pure electric model, expect a plug-in hybrid as well ... AUDI HAS TOLD automotive industry journal, Automotive News that it will build a full-electric SUV with a range of almost 500km to take on the Tesla Model X. However, Audi boss Rupert Stadler has told Automotive News the company is cautious about committing to full-electric models. For the next 10 to 15 years plug-in hybrids will be the preferred choice for customers looking for a vehicle with some form of electrification, he said. While many car companiess have produced a plug-in hybrid, only Mitsubishi seems to have been able to market a real-world plug-in hybrid that demands no compromise on behalf of the owner, the Outlander PHEV. Plug-in hybrids are the right answer to balance urban journeys under electric power with an internal combustion engine for longer trips, Stadler told Automotive News. Thanks to improvements in battery technology and countries developing fast-charging networks, Audi is confident its SUV will be a success. The interview with Automotive News was given at the Shanghai Motor Show last week and with China committing to a network of fast-charging stations by 2020 (it plans to have a station every 40-odd kilometres) it’s likely China will be the key market for Audi’s electric SUV. Indeed, Audi says its SUV will be able to derive an 80% charge in just 20 minutes from a fast charger. Audi suggests the new model will get a bespoke design it’s developing just for its EVs and plug-in hybrid models, and that it’s likely to be based on the next-generation Q5. [EVDL] EVLN: Fiat found 500e EVs that do not have limp-mode, recall to fix SW
http://www.autoconnectedcar.com/2015/04/fiat-500e-software-update-for-limp-in-mode/ Fiat 500e software update for “limp-in” mode April 19, 2015 by Gilbert Shar [image http://cdn.autoconnectedcar.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/2014Fiat500E.jpg (Orange-colored 500e EV) ] FCA (Fiat Chrysler Autos) recalled about 2013-2015 Fiat electric cars in the U.S. to upgrade the software due to a problem with losing power while driving due to a software problem with “limp-in” mode. Fiat calls the 500e “Eco-Chic in the Modern World.” There was an investigation after FCA received reports that some customers experienced power loss while driving. They are not aware of any related injuries or accidents, and drivers who experienced the condition were able to restart their vehicles. Affected are certain Fiat 500e hatchbacks. The cars are equipped with software that induces “limp-in mode,” an EV feature that reduces propulsion as a precaution, if the vehicle detects a problem. Engineers determined some of these vehicles are equipped with a software version that does not recognize limp-in mode. This may cause the vehicles to shut down completely. Affected owners will be notified when they may schedule a free software upgrade, which will restore limp-in mode capability. Fiat 500e sales have increased greatly, with discounts in the last few months. TrueCar.com is showing prices at $2,535 below MSRP.While Edmunds.com is showing around $3,702 off the MSRP. There was buying frenzy last month when it was reported the Fiat 500e models were being leased for less than $100 month. [© 2015 Aproprose] http://ecomento.com/2015/04/14/fiat-500e-recall-for-software-fault-2015/ Electric FIAT 500e recall for software fault April 14, 2015 | Every FIAT 500e sold in the US and manufactured prior to October 31, 2014 will be subject to a recall to fix a software glitch that could cause the car’s electric powertrain to shut down completely – not something you want to happen when pulling into traffic in front of a speed cement mixer. About 5,600 vehicles are affected. In a notice dated April 11, 2015, the company said “incompatible software between the Electric Vehicle Control Unit and the Battery Pack Control Module may cause the electric propulsion system to fully shut down.” The glitch that is the subject of the recall notice was created in March of 2014 by a software update intended to improve “charging system robustness, diagnostic capability and range estimation over life.” But after the update, the Electric Vehicle Control Unit software could not recognize a limp home mode added by the update, potentially causing the drivetrain shutdown. On October 31, 2014, the software for cars then in production was updated to eliminate the problem. FIAT has offered no explanation for why it waited 5 months to notify owners. This is the third FIAT 500e recall for the diminutive electric car. In June, 2014, all cars manufactured to that point were recalled due to a coolant leak in their power inverter modules. Coolant could leak onto high voltage components causing a fuse to blow. In that case as well a loss of power could occur. In 2013, the cars were recalled to fix faulty half shafts that could come apart while driving, leading to a loss of power and possibly a loss of control. FIAT dealers authorized to service the electric Fiat 500 will update the software after owners receive a letter about the recall directing them to contact their local dealer. Owners can contact Fiat at 1-888-242-6342. The recall notice can be found on the SaferCar website operated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Re: [EVDL] Can Automakers Legally Stop You From Working On Your Car?
Its not too bad in the UK at the moment. The electric part is largely ignored as long as the car passes a four hour inspection for a ground up new build or you may just get away with the electric drive being considered as a replacement engine on an existing glider as I did on my Elise and they simply re-registered it. MOT (yearly government inspection) tests that all cars require are quicker as no emission tests are required. Re: [EVDL] EV Boat
Hi George and All, That is a lot of boat drag to either go fast or far. Just not a great choice for solar power. Next since it can only go max 5mph on E and few miles depending on your battery pack hard to justify it. And no need of expensive controllers, E cycle motors as 2 speeds would be fine. No detail on the prop, which needs to be as large as possible turning slow rpm for most eff. What kind of outboards, inboards, KWHR and what it does now on them in speed, range. Not likely to ever be more than a few mile range at low speed on electricity. But driven slow like 4mph with more panels, only 1.5hp of solar now. Answer these and we can go from there. Doing EV boats one needs to start with a sailboat, mono, cat or tri hulls with much lower drag. A real canal/narrowboat would be great. 'eCycle electric motors, super cap/battery amalgamations, advanced alkaline fuel cells, thin/flexible PV modules'These are needlessly expensive or just not viable at all. The MOG is not a commercial enterprise at this time but may be key to the creation of such. Everything designed and implemented over the past 25 years is described on the site given below and in the videos and blog that are also given below. Primarily I ask for any dialog that would help in furthering the progress made to date. In effect, those with knowledge of the Navitas NPS600 motor controller, eCycle electric motors, super cap/battery amalgamations, advanced alkaline fuel cells, thin/flexible PV modules, internal grid power distribution DC networks and anything else that may be contemplated for such a craft is welcome. In its present form, the totally solar electric (drive and appliance) powered boat is very functional. Considerations in decreasing onboard use of power as well as better use of power now created and stored is paramount in continuing further development. To date, all of the boat design build has been funded through my own personal funds as a hobby. Below are the background data to which I referred. [EVDL] its your car, not theirs
Can the auto builder stop you from working on your car???, They can pas that kind of assanighn bill if they want, but who will enforce it? . Its your car/truck, you paid for it, and you over paid for it to begin with . The aftermarket lobby will shut it down faster than a wet fart on a hot day . Following it to the letter, a oil change not with the builders specks will be against the law? LOLOL clowns, thats whats this is all about, what clown can make the most noise . sounds more and more like Atlas shrugged , The Govt will tell you what to drive, where you can drive, What time you can drive, If you can work on your car, where to buy parts and supplies , Then you will have to over pay for a special, never seen on this planet, spark plug . or gizmo or do-dad they demand you replace at the builders dealer garage It may happen, if the Feds get their way, and they almost do...for the good of the people BS is what I say, they can kiss my ass -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Re: [EVDL] Charging-EVr PD-assaulted pushed, handcuffed, punched, pepper-sprayed +
Sorry, but I am at a loss to understand why we are even discussing this. Who knows what *really* happened. Why didn't the driver just show the police his ID? He has complained about the incident and I gather he has been charged and will attend court in due course and give his side of the story. Hopefully some enlightened magistrates/judge/fellow peers will decide what happens next and that *should* be that... or are we saying that because this driver is *allegedly* 'black' he should be dealt with differently by police who it appears were obviously investigating an allegation of some sort? It seems to me, especially with all the recent awareness, that police chiefs would be on heightened alert for retraining their officers to abstain from racial profiling. The meeting will be held at The Church in Ocean Park, 235 Hill Street, Santa Monica at 7:00 pm. As this is a community problem, the Committee hopes for a large community response.a wide-ranging discussion and the development of a positive and just course of action. Here is the NAACP’s account of the incident: Darrell Goode, in his capacity as SM-Venice NAACP President, has asked me to let you know about SMPD activity that took place at an electric car charging dock in Virginia Ave Park in Santa Monica on Tuesday night, April 22 that is the subject of community concern. The electrical charge docks are open until 11pm. A 36 year-old Black male who was charging his electric vehicle at 10:45pm was approached by several police officers, who asked for his ID. He asked “why?” Subsequently, he was pushed to the ground, handcuffed, punched, pepper-sprayed and taken into custody. The individual was charged with not following a police order. He was jailed and released the next day. He requi- red eye treatment due to the pepper spray. He has a court date May 25. A video of some of the interaction was taken by a female passerby, unacquainted with any of the parties. [video https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bwdp1kXhDPb3cmFkM01ObmpteUpnZGIzV1d0V0MzeUNoNGlF ] The video shows apparently egregious behavior by the police. The woman who took the video came forward because she believes the police behavior was excessive. The information on the video is incomplete. It does not show all angles, and it does not show the entire interaction from start to finish. On April 23, at First AME Church in Santa Monica, Darrell Goode interviewed the man, the passerby/ witness who videotaped part of the interaction and several other people. Based on information we have, there was no warrant for the man’s arrest and neither he, his car, nor license number fit any description based on any recent criminal activity. Darrell Goode has informed SMPD Chief Seabrooks, via SMPD Command Staff, of his efforts to assemble information and his intention to publicize it. Based on what is known so far, he may call a community meeting. Meantime, Chief Seabrooks has promised a full internal investigation and the man intends to file complaints against one or more of the officers involved. The man has the right to take his case against the officers to the City Personnel Board. Therefore, in addition to filing a complaint with the SMPD, the man intends to ask for an independent review by the Board. We are united in our unwavering commitment to non-violent advocacy for fairness, transparency and justice for all. . One must understand police culture. They are looking for clean prosecutable offences. Black man in electric car charging area...something must be wrong. Ask for ID..uncooperativebingo he must be a criminal. Easy bust a bingo for the cops. This is how black men are treated by the cops. He gets an asswhoopin. Not the end. He will now get a big pay day and these cops will lose their pensions. The end. Lawrence Rhodes... -- next part -- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
