Re: [EVDL] [SPAM?] Good4 Otmar or a PuTruck/Ute conversion: $35k rear-bashed Tesla-S-85 EV

2016-07-04 Thread Mike Nickerson via EV
In the second picture, it looks like the hood is being held down with a strap,
so it looks like something happened to the front. Hopefully, it didn't affect
the steering or the suspension. I know Otmar had some problems with that on
his donor car.

Those are not 'minor' dings and dents, the rear is trashed = an
embarrassment to be seen in/near/with.

The CL ad sez the rear hatch closes and locks, but it likely has air gaps
you will feel when driving and also makes the EV easy prey for vandals/a
break-in, etc..

The CL ad does not say it had any front damage, so I am thinking someone
might want to let Otmar know of this opportunity as his Stretchla might be

Else, IMO if someone wants to make a Tesla pickup truck, this is the donor

[EVDL] Canadian EVSE(home charging) infrastructure research> outlets, voltages& currents

From what I have seen from a far (I am not in Canada), there are several
types of EVSE used in Canada. Plugshare.com is only one of many tools to dig
around for EVSE information. Canadian Sun Country EVSE is actually rebranded
U.S. ClipperCreek EVSE.

But bring up plugshare.com and select only the 'Residencial Chargers' that
people have made available for public access (use the drop-down filter box).
That should shed some light on what EVSE Canadian drivers have at their
home.

You need to log into plugshare to access these, but plugshare is free, and
without s pam, etc. so, no worries. Just zoom the plugshare map in on Canada
and open each home EVSE listed. From a marketing standpoint, IMO each
Canadian province will have their own style, desires, etc.

Here are some Candian EVSE links to explore.
You will see similar links with each search, but each search may bring links
the other searches did not have, so it is worth wading through each search:

https://www.google.com/search?q=canadian+electric+vehicle+charger

https://www.google.com/search?q=canadian+electric+car+charger

https://www.google.com/search?q=canadian+ev+charger

Here are some Candian EV groups to contact for more EVSE feedback:

https://www.google.com/search?q=canadian+electric+vehicle+club

https://www.google.com/search?q=canadian+electric+car+association

https://www.google.com/search?q=canadian+electric+car+club

https://www.google.com/search?q=canadian+ev+association

https://www.google.com/search?q=canadian+ev+club

BTW way back when, a 240V Avcon was installed in the public off a 40A source
drawing no more than 32A. But initially production EVs back then were tuned
by the automakers to operate off a 30A dryer plug. So, IMO it is likely that
production Ford Ranger EV only draws 5kW (24A, not the full 6kW).

-Mitsubishi has recalled hundreds of thousands of cars due to faulty parts
-Problems include defective power steering and electrical components
-Popular models manufactured between 2009 and 2016 are affected
-There have been no confirmed accidents or injuries relating to the recalls

Mitsubishi has recalled hundreds of thousands of cars with faulty power
steering, electronic components and fuel tank problems.

The Japanese manufacturer issued seven separate recall notices through the
Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Wednesday.

A number of popular models manufactured between 2009 and 2016 have been
recalled ...

Owners have been warned by the ACCC that the defects could cause accidents
in some conditions.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia spokesperson Shayna Welsh said the recalls were
issued as a precautionary measure, and there have been no confirmed
accidents or injuries relating to the faults.

She said safety was the company's 'number one priority'.

'This is why we are committed to the proactive and voluntary safety recall
process, whereby Mitsubishi Motors Australia notifies all customers affected
by a vehicle recall by letter as soon as an issue becomes apparent.'

Customer notification will begin this week, Ms Welsh said.

Among the cars to be recalled are six Mitsubishi models that have defective
indicator signal and lighting switch connector terminals.

They included the ... GA & GB i-MiEV ...
In total 383,379 cars are affected by the problem.

Owners have been warned the terminals may become worn because they are not
rigid enough, resulting in the buildup of oxidised rust that can impair
terminal conductivity.

Continued use in this condition could cause 'conduction failure', the recall
notice said, resulting in various car lights failing to work or working only
intermittently ...

A faulty electrical part means that voltage inside Mitsubishi’s trademark
electrical system is unstable, the ACCC said.

This may result in headlights turning on and off and the window wipers not
working.

‘Under certain driving conditions, this could potentially cause an
accident,’ the recall notice said ...

Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV, a five-door electric car, was another in the range to
be recalled.
Owners of the 2012 model have been advised that there is a problem with the
system that controls the driver motor in the electric vehicles.

The defect could lead to a 'loss of driving motor power' and also mean the
car fails to start and the battery may not charge.

This could 'potentially cause an accident', the ACCC said.
Owners of the 2012 and 2010 models have also been advised that there is an
issue with the car's brake vacuum pump.

This could lead to stopping distances increasing, potentially causing an
accident.
Customers have been advised to visit a dealer to arrange an inspection and
rectification, if required.
There will be no cost to the customer.

[EVDL] Tesla is (cuckoo) courting Sheetz Stations to have L2 HPWC, L3 Super EVSE

Tesla May Be Bringing EV Chargers to Gas Stations

Tesla Motors may soon be adding another retail store chain to its charging
network, and this one is quite different than Nordstrom.

According to the Washington Post, the automaker has been in preliminary
talks on installing its chargers at Sheetz gasoline and convenience stores
in six states in the mid-Atlantic region.

The Times does not specify if these charging spots would be Superchargers,
or level 2, or a combination of both, but does use the term “high-speed
electric chargers” along with a photo of Superchargers suggesting these are
in discussion.

Sheetz operates hundreds of retail outlets across six states, mostly in the
mid-Atlantic region and produces nearly $7 billion in revenue each year. The
Sheetz chain already has eight locations where EV owners can charge their
non-Tesla cars, scattered throughout Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

“We’ve had discussions with them about putting their chargers in our
stores,” said Michael Lorenz, Sheetz’s executive vice president of petroleum
supply. “We haven’t done anything yet, but we’re continuing those
discussions.”

Tesla declined to comment on the negotiations with Sheetz, but acknowledged
in a statement that it is actively courting gas stations, hotels, and
restaurants in its bid to install Superchargers across the country. Tesla
recently announced it has started a test project at a Nordstrom retail
outlet in Los Angeles.

The talks between Sheetz and Tesla are taking place during a time of change
at U.S. retail gas stations. Most gas station chains are investing heavily
in convenience stores filled with snacks and beverages, where drivers can go
inside and spend money while their gas tanks are being filled up.

Few gas stations currently allow for electric vehicle charging, largely
because the technology doesn’t fit with their business model. While EVs
currently account for about half a percent of new car sales, that figure is
expected to grow. EV owners will be looking for more convenient, accessible
charging stations.

Retail gas station owners are being advised to consider installing EV
chargers at their stores. It can make more business sense than installing
another fuel tank underground. It’s expensive to dig up concrete to install
new fuel tanks or other equipment, and gas stations should consider
installing a power conduit so that they can support electric chargers later,
said Jeff Lenard, vice president of strategic industry initiatives at the
National Association of Convenience Stores.
