Re: [EVDL] California solicits applications for $40 million in NEVI EV charging grants

Didn't EV's precede ICE's more than 100 years ago and were very popular in
big cities that had charging stations every few blocks?
Henry Ford's wife and many others drove them because they didn't require
hand cranking to be started.

100 years ago, ICEs started replacing horses. A century later, there are
*still* a small percentage of people using horses. But the vast majority of
people use ICEs.

Your seriously comparing horses vs cars with EVs vs ICEs?
Horses were overcome by technology which is not the case here! Some tasks will
always be better suited to combustion engines.

No; it will never be 100%. But it could easily reach 50% or even more within
our lifetimes. Longer term, it may well get very close to 100% EV.

Honestly I think slow charging during daylight hours at places of work or
shopping could be more appreciated.
Since solar is becoming more and more popular, it makes sense to charge the car
during the daylight hours at work.
If you are going to promote something...

Very doubtful! We’ve had battery powered lawn equipment for over 10 years now
and they still sale gasoline versions. We will never go 100% EV. Not unless the
outlaw it.

I can just see it now, in a few years there are going to be massive parking lots
in Nevada, Arizona, Oregon and Baja Calif where parking for gas guzzlers are
going to be parked for $20/day because Calif only has EV charging stations, no
gas stations.

You (and I) wish. Nope; they follow the money.

On that level, the ideological contradictions are unimportant. Political
parties do function as mediating institutions, just not for voters."

This isn't to say that voting has no effect on anything. It's just that it
has little to no effect on public policies that interest the ultra-wealthy.
The applicability of this principle to EVs will be left as an exercise for
the reader.

Entirely true and as it should be, after all we elect our leaders and they are
supposed to follow the will of the people. And if we don't think they are
'following' us, then we don't re-elect them as was the case with trump (one of
those 'clueless' in my opinion).

Hopefully the 'leaders' have enough intelligence to see that they can also
propose, lead with new, innovative and worthwhile ideas.

So true! Part of the problem is that our "leaders" are actually followers. They
follow the polls, they follow the money, they follow what worked in the past.
Alas, too many people play "follow the leader" even when their "leaders" have
proven to be clueless.

But change will come; it always does. The innovations needed to deal with the
changes will have to come from someone *other* than our erstwhile leaders. The
type of people who are on this list :-)
