I've got the old laptop hard drive, as a secondary drive, working in
my desk PC.

Where should I go looking, with seahorse, to find the passwords?

Ah, thanks for way better understanding the problem than I did! :)

In that case I'd rather investigate why the OP cannot get Seahorse onto
their laptop and what "unable to update" means exactly. Which might be
off-topic for the scope of this Evolution mailing list.

A little bit of the background, I was unhappy with some Linux
distributions having old versions of programs, Evolution being one of
them.

After some research and trying various distributions I settled on
Manjaro. I was very pleased with this and loaded it onto my desk PC and
my laptop. Then one of the updates stopped my desk PC from booting. I
had to extract the files from the hard disk manually to continue
working. Evolution was the worst problem because I could not do a back
up, but I managed to get it working on the new distribution.

I then decided not to allow my laptop to upgrade, since then I've tried
to upgrade Manjaro or add new utilities without success.

Hence I decided to install a new SSD into my laptop on to which I've
loaded Debian 8. This could give me another problem, the Manjaro backup
was made with Evolution 3.22, the Debian 8 version is 3.12. I might have
to look at upgrading Evolution, I don't want to go through the hassle of
rebuilding Evolution again.

Looking where the passwords are stored, in the shadow files, I've copied
the shadow files from the Manjaro laptop disk and I'll try adding them
into another working system to see if I can read them with Seahorse.

I know Patrick is not going to like me saying this but all but one of
the passwords I've got written down. I just need to recover that G mail
password. I've tried accessing G mail, but without the password I'm
stumped.

David.

A suggestion :
You could try putting all your passwords into a file with strong
password protection and a very obscure name. Of course it is always
easy to forget putting a password or two in such a file.

Gmail has a password recovery process via the web page, though normally
you will have had to register a backup email for this to work, or use
their 2-factor system.

Hi,
that's a bug in 3.28.0 with GOA accounts:

It's fixed in today's 3.28.1 release.

Is "Evolution Accounts" under "Edit > Accounts" within Evolution?

In GNOME's Settings, under "Online Accounts", when clicking on your
"Google Account" listed there, is "Use for Calendar" enabled?

[Evolution] Google Calendar sync

2018-04-09 Thread Aleksandr Mezin
Hello.

I cannot make Evolution see calendars from my Google account.
Mail is configured through Gnome Online Accounts and works fine.
But in "Evolution Accounts" I see only "Mail Accounts" and "Contacts"
under my google account.
When I try to add the calendar manually (with "Type: Google"),
Evolution shows me the message "Failed to connect calendar: OAuth2
secret not found". Also, when i try to choose the calendar in "New
Calendar" window, it shows the message "Data source Unnamed does not
support OAuth 2.0 authentication"

Is it a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Hi,
depending on the server, the event can be changed by it. You can verify
what evolution sends to the server and what it receives back when you
run the calendar factory from a terminal with enabled debugging:

   $ CALDAV_DEBUG=all /usr/libexec/evolution-calendar-factory -w

Then run evolution and repeat the steps. You should see new output on
the console of the calendar factory with raw iCalendar data. Search for
DTSTART and DTEND lines inside BEGIN:VEVENT and END:VEVENT lines, which
define the event as such. The DTSTART/DTEND should contain TZID
parameter. There's also a SUMMARY and all other details. When you save
an event in Evolution, it is written to the server (with the PUT
request) and immediately read back (with a GET request), then you can
compare what had been sent to the server and what the server returned
back.

This is only a guess, but I recall some servers do not like expanded
time zones, which libical can use, thus it can be the server rejected
the timezone definition and replaced it with UTC.

   "-m" doesn't make sense, but it doesn't harm ;).

[rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ man useradd | grep -i "\-m," -A2
   -m, --create-home
Create the user's home directory if it does not exist. The
files and directories contained in the skeleton directory (which can be
defined with the -k option) will be copied
   to the home directory.
--
   -M, --no-create-home
Do no create the user's home directory, even if the system
wide setting from /etc/login.defs (CREATE_HOME) is set to yes.

Hi,

what "shadow files"?

The Evolution related passwords are not stored in /etc/shadow. They are
somewhere stored in $HOME (/home/user/). I don't know where they are
stored, however, if you just would

"sudo cp -ai /mntpoint_old_drive/home/orignal_user/ /home/new_user"
"sudo useradd -m -s /bin/bash new_user"
"sudo chown -R new_user:new_user /home/new_user"

then log out and log in as the new user, you could access the passwords
using seahorse.

Since I'm an Arch Linux user, I strongly advise against using Manjaro
Linux or any other Arch Linux derivative.

Regards,
Ralf
