I believe they are stamped based on the way your _rvp record is setup in
DNS. Did anything change in your DNS that coincided with the stamping
being different?

Didn't think of that. Just checked it and reflected the proper host.

Do you have an _rvp record under domainb.com? I have only one domain so
I'm kind of guessing here.

started working as expected.
Many thanks for the help.

Does anyone out there use the IM built into Exchange 2000? We are
considering using it to support our customers and any feedback or links on
it would be much appreciated.

I've configured this at some of our clients. It works as expected. The
main issues are the interoperability or lack thereof between your internal
system and external IM. In addition, last I heard Microsoft is decoupling
IM from Exchange in the next release, so you might want to check into that
as
syntax rather than trying
to guess it from the smtp address.
3) you didn't answer my second question below re: FQDNs or RVP records

Has anyone successfully setup and configured IM with Exchange 2000 on
W2K?
I am just starting out with the installation and am getting lost in the
process.
I have IM installed and active on the 2000 server. I installed the IM
client (3.5) on the same W2K box and I get all sorts of
set up an IM domain with appropriate RVP
service records, A records and so on? What error messages on the IM Server
event log, etc, etc.

AFAIK the 4.5 client doesn't yet support E2K IM.
Regarding your other problem, you don't say where you have got to in the
setup. Have you defined an IM home server yet or just installed the
service? If installed
