Outlook Clients Hang after turning off one server
Hi, HISTORY: We had an exchange server a few months ago and a new server was installed and the old server removed without following the proper procedure to remove the first server from the DOMAIN. We have since installed a newer more powerful server and moved all the Mail, and other settings to the new server (the proper way) and it is now time to remove the other sever (the 2nd Server)... However When I turn off the old server to make sure it is all going to work ok, clients start to Hang when logging into outlook... I have found the bellow article in MS TechNet, but was hoping that the GooRoo's on this list might help me out more so! Any info would be a great help Can I get away with out a new profile? Cheers -Original Message- From: Martin Blackstone [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, 30 October 2001 4:08 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Event ID 4128 and Event ID 4093 What he said. IF you are only using the server for Exchange, the Scanmail will be enough. The only access your users have to the server is through Exchange (no mapped drives, etc) so the chances of a virus transmitting to the server are slim providing you stay well patched. Now if you are in one of those unfriendly situations where you are using your Exchange server for something like file/print services, you may need a file level scanner. In which case you could put Server Protect back on, but you need to exclude the Exchsrvr folders to avoid corruption. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Ed Crowley Sent: Monday, October 29, 2001 8:28 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Event ID 4128 and Event ID 4093 False detects corrupt the files. Adriaan, apart from sending it 4 times, gives no information. I know it is a dead horse, but isn't one supposed to do a least a bit of homework before asking a question? The result of that would be a qualified question, not a broad topic which can be interpreted anyway you want. I see some answers have gone the benefits of win2k route, some look at costs etc which could or could not be relevant. Has Adriaan put any thought into this? I don't think so, hence my response (plus his previous questions to this forum also don't convince me he makes any effort of solving his own questions) Good thing my old Unix pal didn't see his post, he would just mail the guy - RTFM. RE: Need advice adding a new server...
What about using ADSL? -Original Message- From: Bean, Rick [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, 10 September 2001 10:30 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Need advice adding a new server... We have another office that we want to get up on exchange 5.5. We have a single domain and a working Exchange 5.5 server locally here running on a PDC with OWA installed. The office connects to the network via an ISDN line that (recently at least) seems prone to downtime. We have already installed an exchange server at the office. We installed it on a BDC and made it a new server in our Existing Site. However I am beginning to think we may have gone about this wrong. A couple of reasons: 1. They need a different email address, but since it is in the same site the default site addressing can't be changed, without changing the site addressing for us, forcing the admin to manual change each mail box. 2. The MS knowledge base says that the ISDN connection speed is just barely adequate for two servers in the same site. My question is if we remove this server and create them as a different site will OWA still work for the new mailboxes over at the office? It does right now but I don't know how a site connector would affect things. We do NOT want to install IIS on there server unless we absolutely have to. We would like them to go to our main web page and get access to there mailboxes from there. Also Is there a way that if we keep the new server in the same site as our existing main server that we can set up a different default SMTP address for each server? For example are email is [EMAIL PROTECTED] and the new office needs email address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you need me to clarify anything let me know.
