Off Topic -- Ms Proxy 2.0 and WinSock security

2002-02-06 Thread Van Huissteden, Adriaan

Hi All,

In MS proxy, you can select the Winsock properties and under
security, set the domain that users are / are not allowed to visit...

I want to know where this information is stored once entered EG
winset.txt or ini or in the registry?

I have to enter in a long list of allowed and not allowed domains on
12 different servers, and was hoping to get away with importing a file or
reg setting

Any help would be great!

Thanks All

There are 3rd party applications, like GFI Mail Essentials, MimeSweeper and
Trend Micro InterScan VirusWall eManager.

Exchange 5.5 sp4, NT 4 sp6a
Is there a way to add a standard paragraph to the end of all outgoing smtp
messages?I've done Q258206 but this only works for our people who connect
directly to Exchange. Quite a lot of our users currently use OE5.5 for
pop/smtp mail through our Exchange server and I'd like to add our standard
disclaimer to their emails. Anyone know of any scripts/3rd party add-ons?

p.s. I'm new to the list, can't see anything in the swynk site and didn't
find anything. I thought this would be a fairly common request - so, tips on
searching the archives also welcome.

You must need the Outlook security update over-ride..! What you need to do
is download the admin pack for Exchange 5.5, set it up. After that it
creates an Outlook Security Settings public folder. Then you(if u r da
admin) will need to navigate to this folder and post using the default form.
There you can set over-ride setting on an individual user basis.. For more
info and all da grimmy details check this..

He can't uninstall the patch. He'd have to uninstall Office and reinstall
it.

There is a way to control how the security behaves, however. As another

Outlook Clients Hang after turning off one server

2002-02-04 Thread Van Huissteden, Adriaan

Hi,

HISTORY: We had an exchange server a few months ago and a new
server was installed and the old server removed without following the proper
procedure to remove the first server from the DOMAIN. We have since
installed a newer more powerful server and moved all the Mail, and other
settings to the new server (the proper way) and it is now time to remove the
other sever (the 2nd Server)...

However

When I turn off the old server to make sure it is all going to work
ok, clients start to Hang when logging into outlook... I have found the
bellow article in MS TechNet, but was hoping that the GooRoo's on this list
might help me out more so!

Any info would be a great help Can I get away with out a new profile?
Is this the email Profile for outlook?

Thanks

Thanks All

Hi All,

We run Exchange 5.5 and use Trend ScanMail for Email Virus
Protection.. All works very Well, BUT --

When an email is sent to a person in our organization with a virus,
Trend cleans or deletes the virus and then send a message to the intended
recipient. This message that is sent to the intended recipient, has a
Attachment called VIRUS_DETECTED_AND_REMOVED_fun.MP3.pif_VIRINFO.TXT and
this file contains text such as 12/19/2001 08:07:53 The original attachment
fun.MP3.pif, contains a virus or meets the File-Blocking rules. ScanMail
has took the Deleted action, please see your Exchange Server administrator
for details!

This email when selecting it in the inbox, causes outlook 98 to Dr
Watson

Is the File name to long? What do I do?

Thanks

RAS Dial in on NT4.0

2001-12-16 Thread Van Huissteden, Adriaan

Hi All,

I am trying to Get RAS to work (NT4.0server SP6A 128Bit) so I can
access exchange from outside a secure site!

When I look in Remote Access Admin, I see the server, and it tells
me it is running, but there are 0 Ports in Use and 0 Total Ports..

I have installed a Modem and Configured it for dial-in and Out from
the control panel...

When I try to Configure the Comms Ports under the Ras Admin, It
tells me that all the ports are configured for Dial out Access. Please try
again latter...

Any Ideas?

What he said.

IF you are only using the server for Exchange, the Scanmail will be
enough. The only access your users have to the server is through
Exchange (no mapped drives, etc) so the chances of a virus transmitting
to the server are slim providing you stay well patched.

Now if you are in one of those unfriendly situations where you are using
your Exchange server for something like file/print services, you may
need a file level scanner. In which case you could put Server Protect
back on, but you need to exclude the Exchsrvr folders to avoid
corruption.

His question is on the same lines as: GM vs.Toyota?. The question
means nothing, the only true answer he should be getting is It depends
on his local situation. I agree there is merit in analyzing which of
the two Exchange systems suits one better, but only if you take all the
factors into account. Adriaan, apart from sending it 4 times, gives no
information. I know it is a dead horse, but isn't one supposed to do a
least a bit of homework before asking a question? The result of that
would be a qualified question, not a broad topic which can be
interpreted anyway you want. I see some answers have gone the benefits
of win2k route, some look at costs etc which could or could not be
relevant.

Has Adriaan put any thought into this? I don't think so, hence my
response (plus his previous questions to this forum also don't convince
me he makes any effort of solving his own questions) Good thing my old
Unix pal didn't see his post, he would just mail the guy - RTFM. (not
that that necessarily solves anything)

So, put in its proper context it is a good question, coming from Adriaan
like this, it is not.

Why is this a dumb question? This is a very good question, in fact.
Corporations have been struggling with this questions for over a year.

No less than Tony Redmond breeched the subject at MECC '2000 and again
at
the MEC earlier this month.

There are good reasons to move to Ex2k. The decision is a little easier
for
those shops that have no exchsrvr, or where NT does is not the primary
fp
sharing service. Then there are the one issue folks: OWA2k is
important to
us, multiple storage groups is important to us, etc.

Let's make no bones about it: building Ex2k is a significant
undertaking.
And one that takes careful planning and good understanding of AD
(whazzat?)
and x.500 (comeagain?) and 2k's accessory constituent requirements (RG,
CA,
SG, ADC, MMC..hey wherez Admin?). The daunting reality of incorporating
an
moving to a new OS along with a new email server software gives some
pause
and reconsider the value-add that is compelling it. And rightfully so, I
think.

Tim.

2001-09-23 Thread Van Huissteden, Adriaan

I have gone to enable my web access to exchange, and noticed that when I
want to view the setting of my Proxies (Socks, Web and Winsock) I am coming
up with an error box titled Internet Services Manager with content saying
The system cannot find the file specified

Any ideas?

Thanks

Email disclaimer and content filter

2001-09-19 Thread Van Huissteden, Adriaan

Hi all,

Microsoft Exchange 5.5. from what I see, does not have any place to
set mail filters (word and content filters) or a place to add a company
email disclaimer on to all email sent out?

Am I right?

What is good software to achieve this!

Thanks All!

Hi,

I am trying to copy our \\ccuhob04nt02\d$\Inetpub\wwwroot
Directory to our new IIS server, but it is coming up with an error, saying
the file is open Have you ever had this problem, and is there a way to
copy files from IIS if they are open..?

I have tried to stop all the web services, but still the same
error

Any Ideas how I can transfer the from old server to new server?

Before everyone else jumps on this. It's best to read the FAQ found at
the bottom of this message and search the archives for BACKUP as a
topic.

This message thread especially is asked at least twice a week, and trust
me, I haven't seen ANY change in the answers in the two years I've
followed this list.

RE: Need advice adding a new server...

What about using ADSL?

Subject: Need advice adding a new server...

We have another office that we want to get up on exchange 5.5. We have a
single domain and a working Exchange 5.5 server locally here running on a
PDC with OWA installed. The office connects to the network via an ISDN line
that (recently at least) seems prone to downtime.

We have already installed an exchange server at the office. We installed it
on a BDC and made it a new server in our Existing Site. However I am
beginning to think we may have gone about this wrong. A couple of reasons:

1. They need a different email address, but since it is in the same site
the default site addressing can't be changed, without changing the site
addressing for us, forcing the admin to manual change each mail box.

2. The MS knowledge base says that the ISDN connection speed is just barely
adequate for two servers in the same site.

My question is if we remove this server and create them as a different site
will OWA still work for the new mailboxes over at the office? It does right
now but I don't know how a site connector would affect things. We do NOT
want to install IIS on there server unless we absolutely have to. We would
like them to go to our main web page and get access to there mailboxes from
there.

Also Is there a way that if we keep the new server in the same site as our
existing main server that we can set up a different default SMTP address for
each server? For example are email is [EMAIL PROTECTED] and the new
office needs email address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

If you need me to clarify anything let me know.
Thanks in advance
-Rick

In network control panel, click on the protocols. Double-click on TCP/IP to
get to the properties page. Enter the domain name there.

Q247063

 Hi,

I am trying to add and Internet Main Connection, but I am getting
 the following message:

The Internet Mail Service requires DNS domain name to be configured on
'Servername'. To configure the domain name, use the network icon in the
control panel on 'servername', or select another server?

What is going on? It all looks ok?

 Thanks
