The error is caused by umount trying to unmount the /proc/bus/usb
filesystem. umount -a is called by the /etc/rc.d/init.d/halt script.
Removing this entry in /etc/mtab prevents the error and kernel hang. Did
this by making changes in the halt script mentioned above, in the same
way that the halt

When installing LM-7.1, I had DiskDrake create the Ext2 partitions. Is
reboot shuts down all the same services. It follows the same procedures as
shutdown. It has to, or you would damage the file system. That's the same
command issued to the system when CTL+ALT+DEL is pressed and the system
reboots. It's perfectly safe, and will harm no penguins.

the kernel to keep track of things.

Speaking out of the side of my head here: there's a program called Drive2Drive
that you can use. Shareware or freeware, I don't know. Boot on a floppy and
specify the new drive. I used it once a while ago, but brain dumped after.

Partition Magic on two floppies from a running Linux system
install a bootable dos environment on the first floppy of the
two floppy set. The dos used is not Microsoft MS-DOS but
instead is a version of Corel's DR DOS.

4.73 and earlier down to 3.0 or so, has a bug that does not parase JPEG images
correctly which MAY allow a malicious JPEG to do a stack smashing attack. (But
nobody has come up with anything better than a JPEG that crashes netscape so
