[FairfieldLife] Fairfield Friends, your Daily Inspiration - Saturday - One With All

2005-04-09 Thread The Daily Inspiration
Title: Template

  April 09, 2005 - One With

  You are not
enclosed within your bodies, nor confined to houses
  or fields.
That which is you dwells above the mountains and roves with the wind.
It is not a thing that crawls into the sun for warmth or digs holes into
darkness for safety. But a thing free of spirit that envelops the
earth and moves in the ether.
  Kahlil Gibran
  The Prophet

  The
last scene of the movie, The Boy Who Could Fly, begins with the boy
and his girlfriend trapped on a roof top, moments away from capture.
At the edge of the roof, with no place left to go, she turns to him and
  asks, Can you really fly?
  He smiles and replies, Yes.
She says, Now would be a good time to do it.
He takes her hand and they fly away.
  To
  you we say...
This is the time for you to fly.

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: Join Bhagavad Gita discussion

2005-04-09 Thread rudra_joe

It's said Rory,
that thoughts of the Absolute are the greatest sin of all because the Absolute
can only be aprehended in no-thought. You have chosen to write in the Brahman
Consciousness viewpoint, one which I do not acknowledge. For I am a
Buddhist. I only recognize the Three Buddha Bodies.

The difference
being that the Three Buddha Bodies do not reify the ego, because of a subtle
twist of the intellect through using the notion of 'void' versus the Hindu
notion of 'God.'

So I do not
formally acknowledge the Absolute at all, but focus entirely on the relative
when not meditating. (Except when meditation in action. ) The Absolute may know
the Absolute or it may not, the relative takes care of itself, all the better
when the mind merely lets go of it as well.

I'm contrasting
these two religious viewpoints to submit to you that in spite of your assumption
of Brahman your ego is reifying the viewpoint also of Brahman, which means you
cannot use the mind on the relative task at hand. I submit that if you're able
to maintain both things, the relative working on the relative and the Absolute
Absolute, then there is in fact no need to mix the two states as per convention
because mixing them confuses them, and also confuses other
beings.

 Moreover,
and this is my real point, that the highest state of awareness also brings
withit the most acute understanding of pain, temporality, and death, and
therefore also brings compassion. It's for this reason that all the deities have
fangs, or blood dripping or head malas, or stand on corpses, or are crucified,
or hamstrung, or minced into countless atoms.

If you cannot
formally acknowledge the depth and suffering of beings simultaneously with your
'Brahman' then that state is shallow. But I'll submit that you most likely can,
and that, since emotion is tejas it will brighten the entire vaishravana lake
when angry, and so on. Yada yada. Which also why the admonitions about how
a split second of anger can destroy the tapas of lifetimes. Yada
yada

Yada
yada
Yada
yada
Yada
yada
Yada
yada
Yada
yada

Being Brahman in
action is mentally divisive. I mean, I'm doing the same thing actually all the
time, except that I'm trying to be the Three Buddha Bodies. I find it
really spaces me out and makes me so aware of my enviroment including the mental
vibes that my brain starts to fry, which is why I am always damping down with
drugs. I have to focus. I decided I have a condition which isn't formally
acknowledged in Western medicine:

To wit, as soon as
I try I get so unbounded that my hold on everything slips clean away and I space
out bigtime. If I even so much as meditate for ten minutes once a day with TM.
It has to do with soma production. Soma makes me space out hard. It also makes
me so calm that it makes motion very difficult.

By profession I
have to focus and I have to move. So I must also balance the two things.
For the benefit of Kirk, it would have been best if he had never learned TM at
all because after every TM session when Kirk's mind clears, he can't stand it
and goes and darkens the mirror. It's a condition this playing hide and
seek, and yet, all the cool people wear shades. (Because the shades cool one
down.)

However, the cool
looking shades of drug abuse aren't in fact cool at all but of the nature of
mara, and when one trys to deny them they screech and drag their claws through
ones nerves. On the other hand the wrathful deities of cognition really enjoy
cognitive or empathogen/entheogen drugs, as people who make breakthrough into
clear speech with the deities on DMT will tell you, the deities are always
thrilled when someone gets the vision and voice because it's quite rare, or
almost unheard of. I'm not saying difficult though as it's easily possible,
especially now.

I mean Jesus, with
the atmosphere of the world having had its astral body almost burned off there's
much less basic samsara for all humans to worry about during meditation. I
remember when the astral still existed, it was really disgusting. It's
gone now. It disappeared at about the Taste of Utopia conference. However the
causal or mental body still exists and it is very willfull and full of conflict,
expect it to go next, and then watch out as humans all start to act like asuras
or devas. Yet there may still be collective pools of astral reified by the
participants who just cannot let go of their own emotional pollution. For those
samsaric beings we must have compassion. But a quick upward glance or even
the slightest aspiration is enough now to bring a clearing.

You say nothing but
Brahman ever existed. I say Brahman is still a relative state, a state of
relatively identifying the Absolute, I speak instead to the opposite state where
one absolutely identifies the relative.

[FairfieldLife] Re: OK, here's the poop

2005-04-09 Thread wayback71

If this new marketing plan even has more than a 2 month life span, having MMY
pay for
everything is the ONLY way this has any chance of working, because the teachers
won't
have anywhere near the money required to lease mall space. It sounds to me as
if they are
copying the Aveda cosmetics shops, which I believe have been fairly successful.
 ONly the
TMO wants our TM stores to be higher end than Aveda products. That is the key
issue
here - will our ultra expensive stuff find a market in the malls, or fail as
did Tm at $2500/
person. Putting anything to sell in a mall with that great exposure is not a
bad idea. I
wonder if MMY has decided to spend a bunch of the money in his bank accounts on
a last
ditch effort to create a resurrgence of interest, to leave a lasting impression
before he
goes. What a contrast: they now say the dignity of the profession of teaching
TM requires
only full-time people (there is some truth to the idea that it seems more
trustworthy and
significant to learn to meditate from someone dedicated to it full-time) and
yet it will be
available in malls right alongside Old Navy stores or Bloomingdale's and the
TMO's own
cosmetics, herbs and honey.

Yes , but if the thing doesn't work the teachers will be poorer than
ever. Why would a shopping mall give more interest than say, and
internet site, or a TM center, or an a large ad. in a local paper.
I can't see it myself. Unless Maharishi drops the price to a much

[FairfieldLife] Re: Join Bhagavad Gita discussion

2005-04-09 Thread Rory Goff

I love this, RudraJoe! Heart comes through loud and clear. So what's
the problem?

--- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, rudra_joe [EMAIL PROTECTED]
wrote:
It's said Rory, that thoughts of the Absolute are the greatest sin
of all because the Absolute can only be aprehended in no-thought.
You have chosen to write in the Brahman Consciousness viewpoint, one
which I do not acknowledge. For I am a Buddhist. I only recognize
the Three Buddha Bodies.

The difference being that the Three Buddha Bodies do not reify the
ego, because of a subtle twist of the intellect through using the
notion of 'void' versus the Hindu notion of 'God.'

So I do not formally acknowledge the Absolute at all, but focus
entirely on the relative when not meditating. (Except when
meditation in action. ) The Absolute may know the Absolute or it may
not, the relative takes care of itself, all the better when the mind
merely lets go of it as well.

I'm contrasting these two religious viewpoints to submit to you
that in spite of your assumption of Brahman your ego is reifying the
viewpoint also of Brahman, which means you cannot use the mind on
the relative task at hand. I submit that if you're able to maintain
both things, the relative working on the relative and the Absolute
Absolute, then there is in fact no need to mix the two states as per
convention because mixing them confuses them, and also confuses
other beings.

Moreover, and this is my real point, that the highest state of
awareness also brings with it the most acute understanding of pain,
temporality, and death, and therefore also brings compassion. It's
for this reason that all the deities have fangs, or blood dripping
or head malas, or stand on corpses, or are crucified, or hamstrung,
or minced into countless atoms.

If you cannot formally acknowledge the depth and suffering of
beings simultaneously with your 'Brahman' then that state is
shallow. But I'll submit that you most likely can, and that, since
emotion is tejas it will brighten the entire vaishravana lake when
angry, and so on. Yada yada. Which also why the admonitions about
how a split second of anger can destroy the tapas of lifetimes. Yada
yada

 Yada yada
 Yada yada
 Yada yada
 Yada yada
 Yada yada

Being Brahman in action is mentally divisive. I mean, I'm doing
the same thing actually all the time, except that I'm trying to be
the Three Buddha Bodies. I find it really spaces me out and makes
me so aware of my enviroment including the mental vibes that my
brain starts to fry, which is why I am always damping down with
drugs. I have to focus. I decided I have a condition which isn't
formally acknowledged in Western medicine:

To wit, as soon as I try I get so unbounded that my hold on
everything slips clean away and I space out bigtime. If I even so
much as meditate for ten minutes once a day with TM. It has to do
with soma production. Soma makes me space out hard. It also makes me
so calm that it makes motion very difficult.

By profession I have to focus and I have to move. So I must also
balance the two things. For the benefit of Kirk, it would have been
best if he had never learned TM at all because after every TM
session when Kirk's mind clears, he can't stand it and goes and
darkens the mirror. It's a condition this playing hide and seek,
and yet, all the cool people wear shades. (Because the shades cool
one down.)

However, the cool looking shades of drug abuse aren't in fact cool
at all but of the nature of mara, and when one trys to deny them
they screech and drag their claws through ones nerves. On the other
hand the wrathful deities of cognition really enjoy cognitive or
empathogen/entheogen drugs, as people who make breakthrough into
clear speech with the deities on DMT will tell you, the deities are
always thrilled when someone gets the vision and voice because it's
quite rare, or almost unheard of. I'm not saying difficult though as
it's easily possible, especially now.

I mean Jesus, with the atmosphere of the world having had its
astral body almost burned off there's much less basic samsara for
all humans to worry about during meditation. I remember when the
astral still existed, it was really disgusting. It's gone now. It
disappeared at about the Taste of Utopia conference. However the
causal or mental body still exists and it is very willfull and full
of conflict, expect it to go next, and then watch out as humans all
start to act like asuras or devas. Yet there may still be collective
pools of astral reified by the participants who just cannot let go
of their own emotional pollution. For those samsaric beings we must
have compassion. But a quick upward glance or even the slightest
aspiration is enough now to bring a clearing.

You say nothing but Brahman ever existed. I say Brahman is still a
relative state, a state of relatively identifying the Absolute, I
speak instead to the opposite

[FairfieldLife] Recert course fee / Salary question

2005-04-09 Thread bmorry2000

The room and board charge ($60 per day)was announced before the
course started; perhaps not all the participants received the
email

Before the course started, I heard from a very good source that the
salary would only be paid for a few months before each mall center
would be expected to be self sufficient.

Is it true that the salary has been completely cancelled? Can
someone else confirm this?

If that's true, then I guess I won't be going to the next recert
course because my criteria for participating was If the movement
keeps their side of this deal, I will keep mine. So, it looks like
I will be saving $5,800 and losing my governor status

Maybe, I will take Shri Shri's teacher training instead--I hear that
his basic course fee is still quite affordable.

 An interesting concept.

My understanding of suffering is it's a blessed feedback-sign that
one is thinking an incorrect thought with the bodymind; i.e., not

Relaxed breathing and pure emptiful attention on what IS (and watching
the movies one is spinning out of oneSelf and superimposing on the

Commercial real estate usually leases out in one,

someone would lease space for a shorter time, but it

Re: [FairfieldLife] Unboundedness

2005-04-09 Thread rudra_joe
Title: Unboundedness

I don't really have
the answers or self medication wouldn't be my answer. I don't know really Rick,
I've never had the support of a coherent group of people backing me up. I've
been all alone here in NOLA for the past fifteen, until I found some Buddhists,
but I really don't care about group practices any longer at this point except as
a retreat. Rick, I have to make that transition someday to a straight spiritual
type who represents what he stands for without weaknesses. But yes, the
unboundedness is a big problem, but more of a problem is the dire necessity to
be able to function successfully when I don't feel like it, against all odds.
Like 'All That Jazz.' But in a few years the pressure might ease a bit as I
reach the top scale of my profession here in the city. Yes, I need too learn to
integrate. But needing to and doing it are two different things. I don't
integrate very well, which is why I picked up the other techniques and practices
that I do, they help. Chanting helps alot I find, after meditation. And so
on.

If it wasn't drugs
it would have to be sex. Excercise never did work for me for grounding. I
am seriously pitta so grounding equals dulling out.

  Unboundedness
Kirk, I was thinking about what you were saying about
needing drugs to keep you grounded because unboundedness spaces you out (I
hope I’ve got that right). Isn’t enlightenment all about getting acclimated to
functioning in a state of unboundedness? If an ordinary person were to shift
suddenly into the enlightened state, they wouldn’t be able to function. In
fact, this is exactly what happened to Eckhart Tolle and Byron Katie. It took
each of them a few years to adjust. Maharishi said that if you were to get
enlightened suddenly it would take ten strong men to hold you down. But you’ve
been at it for so many years. Shouldn’t your focus be on integrating and
acclimating to unboundedness, rather than try to suppress or obliterate the
experience? It seems like the intensity of your cooking job would help do
this. How about physical exercise? Jogging or something? It seems to me that
unboundedness is a good thing. We want it. We just need to learn to handle
it. To subscribe, send a message

It's hard to understand why the balance of MMY's Gita commentary
is
not being released. With all the talk of Sat Yuga and angels and
King
Tony etc. now, it can't be the case that talking about esoteric
topics found in Chs.7-18 would be an additional problem for the
TMO,
and the scholarly reception of MMY's first 6 chs. was good, so I
have
no idea why it is not being released.

Maybe somebody should remind Bevan that the sale of a million
copies
of a book would bring in some revenue for the TMO? And of course,
the
gold-edged edition could be sold to TMers for $1000/book...

Many, MANY years ago I used to sell Encyclopaedia Britannica. They
had a sales technique called price conditioning in which when you
got to the end of the presentation just before the close, you went
over with the customer the different Britannica editions they
could choose from. There were about five editions

The first one (I forget the name of it) was for CEOs of companies
and was gold-plated. It sold for $10,000.

The second edition was for something like $4,000.

Well, by the time you got down to the last two -- if memory serves
me right, about $1,895 and $1,000 -- the customers were so grateful
to be away from the $10,000 and $4,000 prices that they were just
darned happy to be around a price they could afford.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Photo proof positive of Pundit project.

2005-04-09 Thread benjaminccollins

Interesting response. I suppose that if you adopt the TMO's attitude
of screwing everyone you can hire pandits and pay them a pittance.
Why not? Personally, I think it is unethical, so we pay our pandits
generously. Sure, we could hire them for 100 rupees a day but why not
honor the knowledge and the pandits by being generous?

If we take Dana's assertion that they can get a pundit for 100 rupees,
then imagine the profit margin the TMO makes on a TMO yagya! So
they charge westerners thousands and pay the Indian pundits a few
dollars...this is ethical?

As for the supplies...free? Really. I doubt it. Ghee is never free.
And 800,000 coconuts? Sure, just go down to the corner and pick 'em
up.

The TMO has always been organizationally challenged. Why should it
change now? The 100,000 will never materialize and I'll bet that
eventually we in the US will be blamed for it...not enough support,
purity, terrorism, or maybe too much democracy!

and search out texts, at a rate of two hundred rupees per day (less than
five bucks) and that is a good pay check. So paying pandits 40
bucks per
day to do yagyas is outrageous. Second, materials are basically
free, no
matter what this email states. You can buy coconuts everywhere in India
for five ruppees per (12 cents). Further details if you want them -

We do yagyas and generally pay our priests $40 a day which is the
going rate for Sr. level pundits. We pay the same as the
Shankaracharya Ashram which typically pays the best rate of any
temple, etc. For a 5-10 priest yagya we add about $100 a day for
yagya materials and food (we feed the priests lunch as is tradition).

My $100 per day per person was a guess that attempted to factor in
travel, lodging, per diem, yagya site, yagya materials, support staff,
etc. Admittedly it is a guess, but based on the 108 priest yagya, it
seems to me to be in the ball park.

If you do a yagya in a really traditional manner, there are always
special ingredients that are hard to get but important. Some yagyas I
have seen require upwards of 50-60 differnt kinds of herbs, seeds,
wood, leaves, vines, fruits, flowers, etc.

As an example, a typical yagya will use 4-5 coconuts. So if you have
4000 groups of 25 using 5 coconuts a day for 40 days, that is 800,000
 coconuts!

Another example is that a typical yagya will use 1 quart of ghee per
priest. So you have 250,000 gallons of ghee per day for 100,000
priests! (1 million gallons for the 40 days) Each repetition of the
mantra requires about 1-2 tablespoons of ghee so it is difficult if
not impossible to reduce the amount if you are doing a genuine
 traditional yagya.

Finally, the yagya fire is traditionally made with cakes of cow dung
(not wood). For a 5 priest yagya we burn 1 bushel of cakes in a 2
hour yagya. So, if they have 4000 groups of 25 around 1 fire, let's
say they'd use 5 bushels per day for a total of 800,000 bushels of cow
dung. (there's a joke here that I will let you make yourselves!)

I read somewhere that MMY is wanting to do the Sudarshana Yagya. The
main Sudarshana mantra called Sudarshana Mula Mantra. It is about 20
lines long. It has significiant power. The thing is that I learned
this mantra and have participated in many yagyas with a priest who is
a specialist in this mantra. It took me 5 years before I experienced
any power from it and I can not ever remotely come close to Narasimha
who has been doing this his whole life. There is a process of
empowering a mantra that takes time regardless of whether someone is a
Brahmin or not. So in my mind, training becomes an issue. I mean,
anyone could learn this mantra in a few days. But it won't have any
 significant effect...

I'm not necessarily saying that MMY can't make this happen, but look
at some of the physical and logistical factors and you can see that it
 is a pretty gigantic task!

Thanks Ben. Yes, I know $10 was low ball, I just wanted to
show that

About the CD

These divine songs have a remarkable power and ability to
nourish and uplift the heart and consciousness toward a state
of complete unity. They are always nourishing, but especially
fulfilling when sung during the Nine Days of Mother Divine,
which occur in the spring and fall of every year according to
the Vedic calendar. (Starting this coming April 9th)

One has only to consult the Harvard Dictionary of Music to
realize the ethnomusicology of Vedic India has now become
among the most widely acclaimed and respected by scholars of
world music as well as those of the Western Classical
tradition. And rightly so, for its subtleties and intricacies
of melodic pitch, frequency, and rhythm are unsurpassed in
other cultural heritages. Here in these delightful samples
from the vast array of the sacred classical music of Vedic
India, surviving more than 5,000 years through oral tradition
of teaching, lies a timeless treasure of delightful melodies
and profound poetic texts; in sweetest simplicity and divine
purity. Here lies a most sublime vehicle for human vocal
_expression, as well as for connecting the heart and soul to
its inner divine resources through the sensory experience of
musical tone and text in the Vedic form of swara. For me
personally, it has become a rediscovery of the higher purpose
and function of music: enlivenment of the cosmic melodies and
frequencies structuring the divine intelligence that
administers our universe.
—Graciella Zogbi, vocalist, instructor, and researcher of
Vedic Music

I have listened to the beautiful recording of the singing of
Sanskrit songs, and I found it enjoyable and very settling to
listen to. From the viewpoint of Sanskrit, it's technically
accurate, much like a recording that would emerge from some
ashram high in the Himalayas. I recommend it, and I
personally plan to listen to it again and again.
—Tom Egenes, Ph.D, Professer of Sanskrit

Very nicely and appropriately conveyed Ben. I fear the true depth of
TMO's unethical behavior may never be known. Certainly when yogi Karve
was around the TMO, MMY made sure anyone wanting a sitting with him
paid 500 dollars or more--yet this humble yogi never takes money--and
back then his supporters only asked for donations.

Some will never see what MMY really is--a shrewd, ruthless

Yes, she invited me in to witness a private devotion to one of her

You wanna try Byronizing, maybe? What is it about life as it is
that bothers you the most - what do you most deeply feel should be
different than it is?Byronizing, sounds like a type of drycleaning. Nah, life,
it's good. I'm happy already. I could go right this second. Nah, I want to stick
around, in fact, as senseless as maya is it seems to get better, even as it gets
worse. Snake Ananta, oh Kundalini, we go around and around in this one except
that as a double Libra I have found balance in ipso facto balance and not
renouncing the dark or the light to borrow from Lao Tzu. Nonetheless, to not
recognize suffering is foolish at best, and leads to a complete root downfall at
worst. Unless it doesn't of course. I suffered plenty and I won't forget it
either ever. Moreover, I know that watching my karma is all that I have to
prevent future suffering, and really nothing else. Each thing on its own. And
when each thing is on the other then is
tantra.

I went to his seminar in L.A. very shortly after graduating from and

knowledge w/o any BS. It was very fortunate for me... as it confirmed my
