Bhairitu,

You should learn Nadi Astrology as presented by Umang Taneja on YouTube.
However, he presents his lectures mostly in Hindi. I labored by listening
through his lectures, even though I don't speak or understand a word of Hindi.

From what I could gather by inference, Nadi astrology gives a person another
dimension to understand the birth chart. The technique basically uses the
sub-lords of the nakshatra as the basis for making predictions and assessing
the tendencies of the entire kundali. It's another version of the Krishnamurti
Padhati system.

John, agreed 100%! I was alluding to that, when I mentioned that M had
suggested that the poor help the rich to evolve. Giving charity can mitigate
ones own karma. Sewing a single seed brings forth many more. I guess there will
always be those that think it's unfair for a rich person to help a poor person
because they might reap some windfall from it.LOL!< M once said that America is
a great place to work out ones karma because of all the possibilities.

There's nothing wrong with giving something as charity from your own pocket.
In jyotish, it's a remedy to help a person mitigate the bad karma that he or
she is experiencing in this life time.  If you think about, there is a
practical reason why this works.

However, as MMY has mentioned in one of his lectures, there are some people who
consciously or unconsciously want to be poor, especially in developed countries
like the USA.  If one works for a living, there shouldn't be any reason why one
has to live in poverty.

But unfortunately poverty happens more commonly in third world countries. Is it
due to their national karma or is it their government's fault?

Maharishi suggested that people give 6% of their income to charity, the Bible

[FairfieldLife] Japanese Town Special

2014-06-29 Thread jr_...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
I found a new restaurant at the Japanese Center area today. It used to be run
by Denny's. Now, it's become a Korean restaurant and is fairly busy with many
customers. So, I tried their bulgogi beef special served with soup, kimchee,
noodles, honey-sweetened fried potato cubes, pot stickers, and rice. It was
delightful and creative.

It's nice to see that they're able to run a profitable business at that
location, whereas Denny's could not.

Then, I went inside the center to have an ice cream sundae, which was made of
green tea ice cream, mixed with sweet bean paste, and topped with whipped
cream. And, I had a side of coke with it. It was delicious.

Next, I was drawn by a fragrance from a store selling incense and perfumes.
So, I went inside and bought a incense set with sandalwood incense, charcoal
cubes, and an incense burner for the house.

And, NO. I didn't attend the Gay Pride Parade today which was attended by an
estimated crowd of about half a million.

pleasant afternoon waiting for all hell to break loose later during the World
Cup game. It has nothing to do with anything said recently on FFL; it's just a

There are some people one meets on the Internet who seem to have a negative
relationship with contradiction. They hate being caught saying something that
contradicts something they'd said earlier, and with the same fervor with which
they leap at the throats of others who they think they've "caught" in a similar
contradiction.

I don't get it.

Haven't any of these people ever changed their minds about anything? Or grown
as a human being such that they are no longer the same self who said the
previous, seemingly contradictory thing?

To be ashamed (or feel the need to sham others) over a self saying something in
the present that contradicts something that same self said in the past seems to
imply a belief that it really is the *same self* in both cases. How sad.

I mean, am I supposed to feel ashamed that I say something this week that
contradicts what I said last week? I would think that I should be ashamed of
the opposite -- that I am the same self today that I was last week. That would
imply a lack of spiritual progress -- a kind of stasis of self. Not my notion
of walking a spiritual path.

Then again, I've walked that path with teachers who could blast you through a
dozen different states of attention in as many minutes. Say or write something
in one of them, and you'll find that it's not true from the point of view of
the next. In such environments, one can develop a somewhat laissez-faire 'tude
towards the concepts of reality and truth. Which of these different states of
attention -- subjectively as different as walking from Adventureland to
Tomorrowland at Disneyland -- is real? All of them were, in the moment, and
from the point of view of the self who perceived that moment. Which of them is
truth? All of them were, again from the point of view of the self who perceived
that moment.

From the next state of attention, point of view, and self...not so much.

No harm, no foul in my opinion. Then again, I don't believe in the notion of a
fixed self. I am more comfortable with the metaphor of a fluid series of
selves, that flit across the Self for either short or long periods of time. As
I look around the world, I perceive that some people believe that their self is
kinda fixed because they've been stuck in it for some time. In some cases, for
years. Back in my hard core Tantra days out in the desert, I couldn't deceive
myself into believing that I was the same self for more than a minute. The
selves just flowed, and then flowed away.

I don't see that I owe any allegiance to anything said by any of them. That was
then, this is now.

I think you are confusing self with Self.

helping the poor, maybe a little moral support but it takes someone
with enough to share, to really help the poor. So you take
everything Bill Gates has and distribute it to the poor, equally.
What you get is a bunch of people getting a free meal and Bill Gates
is broke, asking for a free meal the next day. Didn't Maharishi once
say something to the effect that poor people are here to help the
rich evolve? Maharishi suggested that people give 6% of their
income to charity, the Bible suggests 10% and of course anything
over and above is icing on the cake. Giving something, to those in
need, is key. Demanding something from those that can give is coveting.

And like I mentioned on RT you can also just download the show. There is
a down arrow icon right next to the "share" icon in the upper left
corner. Click on it download though it may launch the video in the
browser which then right clicking on it will allow for saving to your
hard drive.

I mentioned this movie back then because it was shot entirely with sub
$5000 Panasonic HD camcorders and it got some notoriety for that too. I
also liked it because it held more true to form about what the music
industry and writing songs was about.

I would suspect that "Wolf Creek 2" would stress the bejuzuz out of most
of the folks here except for us die hard horror fans and tantrics. But
I watched it on Friday night. It's a sequel to another film about a
serial killer in the Australian Outback. It's very well played and no CG
for the special effects but done the old fashion 1970s way.

Also probably too much full frontal for most here with "Fractured"
starring Callum Blue ("Dead Like Me") about a guy who has no memory of
his past and sets out to find it. Both these too offerings are on
Netflix WI where I've also been enjoying the Belgian series "Salamander."

So I downloaded the movie and discovered that it's a wonderful
low-budget gem from Ireland, featuring real-life singer-songwriters
Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. It's about a guy and a girl (named
Guy and Girl in the credits) who meet on the streets of Dublin where
he's busking. They discover that they share a love for music, and
begin to collaborate writing songs that tell the story of two people
meeting, falling in love, and then telling their story by writing
songs about it.

It's very low-key, and pretty damned charming. It made 36 Top Ten

one of those people who can actually hear song lyrics as they're sung
and understand them, because as much of the story is told in them as
is in the dialog, but if you can do that I think you'll enjoy it.
Here's the song that caught my attention over dinner, with enough

Having an infinite mind might be handy in some ways but it seems your
imagination has some catching up to do.

I can't think of anything more amazing (or important) than exploring other
planets. Amazing because of both the conceptual the technological leap. Think
about what we had to work out about the moon before we tried to go there,
temperature extremes, radiation dangers, and that car we took was designed to
work in a gravity lower than that of Earth - is that clever or what? We don't
know what else we might invent from space exploration, things that might come
in useful in our day to day lives.

And then there's actually getting there, the math involved in piloting a craft
away from our usual reference points had to be thought up from scratch. The
power needed to escape gravity had to be exactly known or we might have never
got out of the atmosphere.

And then there's the knowledge gained, things we would never have known about
what outer space is actually like. Conjecture is one thing but actually going
there!

And it's important because we will die on Earth if we don't escape and there
is no time like the present for doing that. No point waiting for someone to
invent warp drive, let's go now and develop further with the inevitable
increase in knowledge we gain from experimenting.

There are some people one meets on the Internet who seem to have a
negative relationship with contradiction. They hate being caught
saying something that contradicts something they'd said earlier, and
with the same fervor with which they leap at the throats of others who
they think they've "caught" in a similar contradiction.

I don't get it.

Haven't any of these people ever changed their minds about anything?
Or grown as a human being such that they are no longer the same self
who said the previous, seemingly contradictory thing?

To be ashamed (or feel the need to sham others) over a self saying
something in the present that contradicts something that same self
said in the past seems to imply a belief that it really is the *same
self* in both cases. How sad.

I mean, am I supposed to feel ashamed that I say something this week
that contradicts what I said last week? I would think that I should be
ashamed of the opposite -- that I am the same self today that I was
last week. That would imply a lack of spiritual progress -- a kind of
stasis of self. Not my notion of walking a spiritual path.

Then again, I've walked that path with teachers who could blast you
through a dozen different states of attention in as many minutes. Say
or write something in one of them, and you'll find that it's not true
from the point of view of the next. In such environments, one can
develop a somewhat laissez-faire 'tude towards the concepts of reality
and truth. Which of these different states of attention --
subjectively as different as walking from Adventureland to
Tomorrowland at Disneyland -- is real? All of them were, in the
moment, and from the point of view of the self who perceived that
moment. Which of them is truth? All of them were, again from the point
of view of the self who perceived that moment.

From the next state of attention, point of view, and self...not so much.

No harm, no foul in my opinion. Then again, I don't believe in the
notion of a fixed self. I am more comfortable with the metaphor of a
fluid series of selves, that flit across the Self for either short or
long periods of time. As I look around the world, I perceive that some
people believe that their self is kinda fixed because they've been
stuck in it for some time. In some cases, for years. Back in my hard
core Tantra days out in the desert, I couldn't deceive myself into
believing that I was the same self for more than a minute. The selves
just flowed, and then flowed away.

I don't see that I owe any allegiance to anything said by any of them.
That was then, this is now.

In regards to the people of a nation electing those that best reflect
themselves, look at the common denominator as being greed. Whoever promises the
most goodies, whether it's*tax cuts* for the rich, *free* health care or an
Obama phone, gets elected. Just find what the most people will accept in
exchange for their vote, offer it and the office is yours, whether you can
deliver or not because you *cared*.

I recall the Movement line, about the leaders of a country being the innocent
reflection of the people - and I have to wonder about that -- So much money and
power is behind an election, so the choice of candidates is always limited to
those few who are vetted by the wealthy and powerful.

Acquiring wealth and power calls for a specific skill-set and interest, that is
not necessarily reflective of the people in a country, as a whole. Wanting
mega-wealth and power, is a desire to leverage one's needs, over an entire
population - controlling others. Having the masses act according to the values
of a few, is at the heart of it.

So, can we honestly say that those who wish to control us, are simply each one
of us, in such a position? I don't think so. Perhaps one of these days - but
not yet, and certainly not here, in the US.

next few weeks how the crisis unfolds.

[FairfieldLife] Contradicting one's self

2014-06-29 Thread TurquoiseBee turquoi...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
[ This is just a general rap written at a pleasant canal-side Leiden cafe on a
pleasant afternoon waiting for all hell to break loose later during the World
Cup game. It has nothing to do with anything said recently on FFL; it's just a
train of thought that developed while reading another forum. ]

Re: [FairfieldLife] Strange Bedfellows in the Middle East

2014-06-29 Thread fleetwood_macnche...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Much of the US interest in the Middle East is for oil that we don't need, being
domestically self-sufficient. Personally I'd like to draw a big red circle
around the region, such that if they attack outside the region, we use
uncompromising force on them, and we stay out of the circle, in the meantime.

 Fleetwood,

You've got to remember that ISIS is more radical than al-Qaeda. They're
spreading chaos now in Lebanon as we speak.

However, there are some people who believe that the Sunnis are just using ISIS
as a marriage partner of convenience for the sake of taking control over Iraq
as Saddam did in the past. Once the Sunnis are in control, they will throw out
ISIS from power.

The Kurds would be foolish to be satisfied with just controlling the oil
fields in Kirkuk. ISIS is vulnerable now since they're busy attacking Baghdad.
If they attack ISIS from the north, I believe ISIS will disintegrate and flee
into the wilderness.

Similarly, Assad would be wise to attack ISIS from the west for his own
survival. So, IMO the militants have put themselves into a corner of
destruction and defeat. The virulence of ISIS will eventually bring about its
own death just as cancer cells are attacked by antibodies in the human
physiology.

Heard something watching the France24 channel last night - the statement being
that ISIS, wanting to establish a true Islamic state, is not interested in
taking all of Iraq, content instead to consolidate their current gains. Makes
sense - the country was designed by the Brits to always be tearing itself
apart, anyway, and ISIS doesn't want the burden of holding all the tribes
together.

I agree somewhat with your assessment about the Syrian rebels. The USA should
not aid them since they could be allied with ISIS in the long run. But Obama
may be using a CIA assessment about the dynamics in Syria which we are not
privy to.

Independent of Obama's decision, it's definitely to Assad's advantage to get
rid of ISIS now while they're busy attacking Iraq. He could and should attack
the supply route in Syria for the ISIS militants in Iraq. Once ISIS is gone,
IMO Assad could retain his power.

Indirectly, the Iraq government would gain as well. But I don't believe
Maliki is competent to run the Iraqi government. In fact, he is the most
likely reason why the Sunnis and the Kurds don't want to cooperate with the
present Iraqi government.

However, I believe the Kurds will attack ISIS eventually from the north for
their own preservation. If they let ISIS take over Iraq, the Kurds will
eventually be a target for subjugation by an Islamist caliphate if the
militants are in control.

It looks like Obama wants to help the Syrian rebels who are attempting to
overthrow Assad. If the rebels win in Syria, the ISIS will probably take over
the entire country and get access to a lot of high-powered weapons. I'm not at
all sure sending aid to the Syrian rebels is a good idea - what if it
backfires? It's beginning to look like Obama does not know what he is doing.
Foreign policy seems to be not his best talent. His entire Middle East plan is
in shambles. What else can he do to screw things up? Go figure.
