Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: Iowa caucus bulletins

2016-02-02 Thread emily.ma...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Personally, Trump (Mr. "I want to buy a farm in Iowa" because I'm so great) or
Cruz (Mr. Tea Party or be damned) would be a sure fire disaster, nationally and
internationally (i.e., foreign policy). I believe one must be willing to play
with others' and neither of them do. Maybe one reason Rubio did so well? I
personally think that if Rubio is nominated, he will pose the best chance the
Republicans have to win. So, I hope Trump is nominated.

I'm not sure Sanders can play well with others either. Although,
ideologically, I'm much more in his camp than out. However, I have serious
doubts that the "revolution" needed will materialize, when push comes to shove.
And then there is the timing of it all; most of Congress would have to be
voted out. Within his lifetime, I think his time may have passed and *was*
when Obama ran the first time. When we were losing 800,000 jobs a month, when
the banks gambled all our money away and had to be bailed out, when our
environmental protections were being severely undermined, when it was obvious
our reason for being in Iraq was a lie, etc., etc. Well, we will see how it
goes. I'm going to caucus this year.

Dear Friends, to help facilitate scholarly research I have recently sent the

This is meant to be of help for folks looking in on our meditating community

towards bringing our own local community up on more current processes that are
evolving in the Fairfield, Iowa meditating community.

To facilitate scholarly research I have collated some material that communal
studies historians and social scientists might
enjoy looking through. There is an old Yahoo-groups forum [ FairfieldLife ]
related
to the meditating community in Fairfield, Iowa.
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/FairfieldLife/info
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/FairfieldLife/info

The forum is fifteen years old
and is an amazing archive of notes on communal meditating Fairfield, Iowa.
There is treasure of material, some from eye-witnesses who 'were there' spread
throughout the archive. Over the years I have kept an index that I
periodically update.
On January 1, this year (2016) I updated some of the indexing and brought up
to date with some
more current threads about the meditating community in Fairfield.

Collating this material to January 1st as a date makes it much easier to find
and research with only a few clicks.

To navigate on the FairfieldLife main page scroll down towards its bottom to a
calendar matrix where you can easily click on to 2016 and the month of January.
That takes you directly to Jan 1 of 2016. You can then scroll down and find the
indexing that is posted there and other relevant communal studies threads

It Seems easier to operate on a laptop vs smart phone screen. Some browsers

various reasons. I put some of these subjects together in this post:

2016-02-02 Thread Mike Dixon mdixon.6...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Putting it simply, some people find the name *Democratic Party* is an oxymoron.
Both parties are notorious for cutting deals in  cigar- smoke- filled, back
rooms in the dead of night among their party leaders. Some  prefer to use
*Democratic* as an adjective, not a noun. This objection to the use of the term
*Democrat Party* by *DemocRATS* is relatively new. LOL!

Re BTW, the adjective is "Democratic," not "Democrat" :

Ha! I was going to thank you in passing for correcting my nomenclature but then
it just seemed a trivial point and you might suspect me of being snarky. Which
wouldn't have been the case as I'm happy to have my grammar corrected - indeed
I request instruction as long as people ignore obvious literals.
However, a nagging curiosity made me Google this. Why would anyone bother
quibbling over Democratic versus Democrat? I came up with this:
The most natural phrase would be "Democratic primary" with a large 'D' to
distinguish it from a primary that was run in a democratic manner. But many
conservative Republicans say "Democrat party." It's almost a litmus test for
right-wingedness. Listen to the Limbaughs and other liberal-haters, and they
always say "Democrat party" and "Democrat politician" whereas more neutral
people or moderate Republicans say the nicer-sounding and more natural
"Democratic primary."

Blimey! I hadn't realised I had strayed into a controversial area. I'll wager
I'm the only Brit aware of the history of this party-political semantic dispute.
But read this from Wiki:One commentator wrote, "There’s no great mystery about
the motives behind this deliberate misnaming. 'Democrat Party' is a slur, or
intended to be—a handy way to express contempt. Aesthetic judgments are
subjective, of course, but 'Democrat Party' is jarring verging on ugly. It
fairly screams 'rat' .
"Jarring verging on ugly. It fairly screams 'rat'"! Isn't that rather an
over-the-top reaction?

I was listening to Yank playwright Bonnie Greer today and she mentioned
something that really shook me: Trump has no chance of becoming President (no -
that bit didn't shake me!) because even if he wins every caucus/primary he
contests the Republican bigwigs will block his candidature. That last bit was
the shocker.
Did she say how she thought they would do this? There's no official mechanism
for it that I know of. They could try to subvert the Republican nominating
convention to give someone else the nomination, but it would be highly iffy and
would cause a gigantic ruckus.
So these primaries are in the end just advisory! The Democrat and GOP
establishments will just pat you on the head and tell you they will "listen" to
your concerns.
Um, no. Not sure what Greer was on about, but it sounds to me like conspiracy
theorizing, not reality. (BTW, the adjective is "Democratic," not "Democrat.")

Has it ever actually happened in US history that the popular choice for
Presidential contender - Red or Blue -has been overturned at the final hurdle?
It's freezing out there. Stay indoors.

Jefferson County, which includes Fairfield, went 73% for Sanders, 27%
for Clinton -- an amazing result, and easily Bernie's biggest victory
margin in Iowa. Nothing else came close.

[FairfieldLife] Re: Fairfield,Iowa transcendental meditationists

2016-02-02 Thread dhamiltony...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
A visiting Washington Post writer, Ben Terris recently came up with this,
'transcendental meditationists' as a shorthand descriptor largely for who or
what we are
in meditating Fairfield, Iowa. Technically this descriptor is pretty good.

It encompasses the larger range of what has become transcendental
meditationists in the community in Fairfield, Iowa.

Non-capitalized the term is not limited by franchise of a trademark but is
left describing Fairfield as
to its experiment in transcendentalism, that yes we are transcendentalists
that can go back to the philosophy of transcendentalism or its philosophers.

But 'meditationist' infers that we are here as transcendental meditationists
in discipline of practice, more than just a bunch of philosophers and idealists.

I like the shorthand that 'transcendental meditationist' gives. I go out to
conferences around the State of Iowa or out around the country where people
will ask, “So, what is going on in Fairfield, Iowa?” Depending on what the
person wants to know I may just give the short answer, “Oh, we are a bunch of
'transcendentalists' living there. That suffices on one level in quick
conversation and says not much either. But, that we are a community of
'transcendental meditationists' says it more particularly. I like that.

Jefferson County, which includes Fairfield, went 73% for Sanders, 27% for

I know you didn't mean it snarkily! Just figured I'd short-circuit your
inadvertently passing it on.

As to over-the-top reaction, I've seen it spelled by right-wingers "DemocRAT
Party." So it isn't as if Dems are just being too sensitive...

then it just seemed a trivial point and you might suspect me of being snarky.
Which wouldn't have been the case as I'm happy to have my grammar corrected -
indeed I request instruction as long as people ignore obvious literals.

 But read this from Wiki:
One commentator wrote, "There’s no great mystery about the motives behind this
deliberate misnaming. 'Democrat Party' is a slur, or intended to be—a handy way
to express contempt. Aesthetic judgments are subjective, of course, but
'Democrat Party' is jarring verging on ugly. It fairly screams 'rat' .

the shocker.

Did she say how she thought they would do this? There's no official mechanism

Doug,

Which tradition are you using to mark this day as the first day of Spring? As
defined by Western astrology, the first day of spring is the vernal equinox,
which is March 20, 2016.

I saw a video this morning indicating voter fraud at one caucus. Two or three
counts were taken and each one came up different. One had more people than were
in the room. Who knows.

last night. It said it was packed with people trailing into the lobby and down
the stairs. He figured it would have been impossible to get an accurate count
in such circumstances.

In Iowa as a whole, Bernie's behind Hillary by only 3/10 of a percentage
point (49.6 to 49.9), according to the NYTimes this morning. Given the way
delegates are allocated, this likely means the two will end up with the same
number of Iowa delegates at the convention.

In Iowa as a whole, Bernie's behind Hillary by only 3/10 of a
percentage point (49.6 to 49.9), according to the NYTimes this
morning. Given the way delegates are allocated, this likely means the
two will end up with the same number of Iowa delegates at the convention.

Who says that rich people are smart? They are just "acquistors" or
people who like to "acquire" things and focus on material gain. They
do so at the expense of others and civility. Life, liberty and the
pursuit of happiness don't fall into material gains but that is what
the public wants. It doesn't have to cost a lot either. The cost of
living in the US is out of whack. We really don't need higher minimum
wages. That's just another "band-aid" fix. The cost of living needs
to be deflated because it became inflated through bad credit practices.

Obama was just a new car salesman for the owners of the
(neo-liberalist) car lot. It's the same program as the Bush
administration. Just some smoke and mirrors to make people think it
is different. I think the king makers have decided that global
socialism is the way to go and it might even be mock democratic
socialism. But the king makers are not that good so we'll see how it
goes. As it is the time has run out on the banksters and that's why
you are seeing the markets beginning to tank. The fiat currency
baking derivatives aren't going to fool the public anymore.

two wars,a medicare prescription entitlement program, a major
terrorist attack(9/11), a natural disaster(Katrina) that wiped out a

the middle-east, including Iran. Qaddafi giving up his WMDs and

Let's examine Obama's record of *Hope n Change*. A national debt of
twenty trillion dollars in eight years. That's twice Bush's
increase. Eight years of recession or near recession, the lowest
economic growth in decades. Job growth is primarily limited to part
time work. Highest unemployment for blacks ever. Race relations at
their lowest since the sixties and race riots. Numerous terrorist

Afghanistan. Abandoned a free Iranian movement, Saw the Muslim

aggression has been reduced by half.

Meanwhile, here at home, insurance rates have increased by an
average of $2500.00 a year per family after being told his plan
would reduce them that much. A few million who didn't have
insurance before now have some but with a deductible so high it
doesn't do them any good unless their illness is catastrophic. A
bunch or people got some free phones and food stamps, while illegals
are allowed to come in by the millions with few consequences.
Obama's only legacy is Obamacare which has helped so few at the cost
of so many and it will be overturned. So, what has that 10 trillion

 Spring Begins this day!

Those of us out on the land in our Global Northern Hemisphere are marking the
beginning of spring this day today as we reach the halfway between the winter
solstice and the spring equinox.

The morning started this day here in Fairfield, Iowa with flash of lightening
and thunder, well begun!

 Blessings to the world all.

Ah yes, judging from my FB Fairfield friend's feedback I knew Bernie was going
to claim Jefferson county. But Hillary still won Iowa it seems - best of both
worlds. And I must say, I am loving Trump's second place status with Rubio
nipping at his ass. I had just landed on an incoming plane from NYC to Seattle
and saw it on my phone - that was great to see.

 As of midnight:

AP projects Cruz beats Trump, 27.7% to 24.3%. Rubio is third with 23.1%.

Clinton and Sanders are neck-and-neck, with Clinton very slightly ahead.

O'Malley and Huckabee have suspended their campaigns.

[FairfieldLife] Very Happy Imbolc Day!
