Hi Sera,
most points agreed. I just got carried away a bit, because I found, whatever
little bits we saw in Russels piece from Fauxnews so outrageous, that I
couldn't believe there is a serious audience for it.

There is an audience for it because he is saying what is popular now, what lots
of people want to hear - that life is crazy, big banks are bad, rich people are
screwing everyone else. They don't take the time to see what kind of person he
really is. I won't take the time to type a description of
Maybe you're just JELLOS. According to what I've read, Brand is a comic genius
- he must be pretty smart since he got Katy Perry. But, he probably can't
compare to all your many talents. LoL!

He does raise an interesting point though. Is our society making people
mentally ill? As capitalism overheats and it turns from meaning simply that the
means of production are in private hands to meaning that everything is
predicated as to whether it benefits business or not.
Look at our
There's probably not a single informant on this list that watches Fox News on
U.S. TV. Correct me if I'm wrong about this. In the UK, I understand that
reading the Daily Mail is very popular. LoL!

Sera, are you trying to say, that two evils cancel each other out? No, you
don't, do you? I can't imagine any other convoluted sh*t of propaganda piece as
this one, and you don't want to even compare it to upright journalism, which
does exist. Russel is completely right to get outraged at this.
Strident demagoguery may sell for a short period of time, but it has little
staying power. In contrast, the talking head shows on Fox and CNN deal with
dissent in a much more mature manner, and usually features more of it than
MSNBC prime-time shows do. For that matter, Morning Joe has a much
Re Sera, are you trying to say, that two evils cancel each other out?:
No. I'm avoiding that cliche. But to avoid being taken in by bias it is an
excellent prophylactic to read a variety of sources with opposed takes on life.
There are certain takes that doubtless aren't worth wasting time on
I've been in the arts all my life. I know *exactly* how to manipulate
an audience. FOX News a joke in the US. They call their network fair
and balanced which is a real laugh. It's old Rupert's pet project and
fair removed from the way that the FOX entertainment outlets are run.

Re Fox manipulation of the audience:
Yes, we know that the media manipulates the audience. I just hope that you see
that ALL the different media outlets - TV channels, cinema, newspapers, mags -
manipulate their consumers.
The thing is, I always get twitchy when people attack one
Geesh MJ, he's comedic actor. What do you want him to sound like? Some
executive in a suit?
As for being rich I'm sure you remember Warren Buffet's comment about
his secretary paying a higher tax rate than he does and how wrong that
is. He was hinting that the public should do something
Quite ironic that Brand accuses the media of mental/emotional manipulation
(which they do) while stumping for the TMO which does exactly the same thing.

since he is one himself, not to mention the hypocrisy of his yipping like a

Does he really stump that much for the TMO? In fact it almost looks
like he has a picture of Yogananda by his bed not MMY. Though maybe
it's just a relative or girlfriend (too small to see for sure). Most of
the time he's stumping for the general public against the status quo.
Good on him
That's it? That's all you got out of this video? Blame fox?

I got the usual overdose of Russell Brand's narcissism. His manic presentation
does no one any favours.
Do you really (I mean *really*) buy the idea that

I always thought that capitalism meant something other than just turning a
profit, though it isn't easy to decide when the latter turns into the former,
and where the practicality ends and the self-destructive element begins.

I watched the entire video. Brand pointed out the Fox manipulation of
the audience. IOW, status quo good, the public bad. I applaud that.
And since when does capitalism mean liberal democracy? In the US it
means a bunch of thugs who run big companies and screw the public.
