Remember, folks, according to Judy herself, Robin was posting a parody.
What is the difference between lying and posting a parody? What Robin
posted was a put-on that everybody took seriously, but when Richard
posts a put-on, it's lying, according The Judge. Go figure.

I didn't think I would hear myself say this (and I haven't
because I'm writing it) but I am formally asking Rick for the
reinstatement of posting limits. At least at 50 I might, just
might, be able to stick it out with the, shall we say, obsessive
troller Richard. He is nothing if not persistent in his need to
drive this forum into the basement. FFL will end some day but it
would be nice if it wasn't because of Ricky. He's just not worth it.

Run to Rick, run to Rick. If Rick doesn't like me posting then he
can speak for himself and I can always post to Google Groups as
much as I want to, any time I want to, as long as I want to - it's
totally un-moderated.

Just for the record, Judy was one of the main reasons for the
posting limits in the first place. It's on record that she has
been the top poster for years on FFL and previously on Google
Groups. For some reason, she thinks she is the moderator of this
list now. Not for nothing do they call her The Corrector. Because
of her outright meanness, it's now open season on Ms Stein and now
I got the people-power to stand up to her. So, put that in your
pipe and smoke it.

I WILL NOT BOW AND SCRAPE TO THE TYRANT!

And also for the record, you and Judy are the main reasons this
group has gone into the basement. I don't see anyone else here
posting as much snark as you two post. Almost 50% of the posts
here are just ankle-biting and snark from you two gals. It's just
embarrassing. This is supposed to be an open discussion. In a
social gathering, you two gals would be asked to leave for being
just outright uncouth and mean-spirited.

[FairfieldLife] Posting Limits

2008-05-29 Thread Rick Archer
I haven’t been paying attention, but I just checked and discovered that
several are near, at, or over the weekly posting limit (of 50).

Jim (sandiego) – 49

Turq – 50

Louis McKenzie – 50

Judy – 53

Lawson – 65

I’ll cut Judy some slack because she is always conscientious and my count
may be off slightly. Lawson is out for two weeks.

Kirk, Shemp, and Richard Williams went over slightly last week. I’m not
going to bust them because I went over the week before, without realizing
it. So I owe them one. But let’s be more careful this week. I know that
sometimes it seems like a stupid rule, and there are arguments pro and con,
but I think most would agree that it has improved FFL. As long as we’re
going to have the rule, I need to enforce it and abide by it myself. The
limit is now 50 per week.

[FairfieldLife] Posting Limits reminder and hints

2008-02-19 Thread TurquoiseB
For the benefit of the newcomers to Fairfield Life.

As you may have heard discussed, even if you didn't
get the FAQ that discusses it, there is a posting
limit here of 50 posts per week. The week is from
midnight Friday thru the following midnight on Friday,
Fairfield time. The count starts over at 00:01
Saturday morning.

In terms of keeping track of your posts, if you are
a prolific poster, there is a tool that works, as of
this moment -- the Yahoo Advanced Search engine. It
is HIGHLY unreliable; often its indexing mechanism
is broken and in the past it has missed almost half
of the posts made. So I wouldn't...uh...count on it
as your *only* mechanism for tracking the number of
posts you've made here. But as of this week it seems
to be working again. To access and use it:

1. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FairfieldLife/msearch_adv

2. In the Date fields, choose is after in the first
field, followed by the date of the *Friday* that starts
the posting week. For example, for this week you would
choose is after February 15 2008.

3. Enter your ID in the Author field.

4. Click Search. The total number of posts is shown at
the top of the resulting list. This total may be off a
bit, even when the Search engine is working, depending
on your time zone. To make sure, click the Last link
and check to see whether some of the posts listed might
have fallen into the previous week in your time zone.

A much better method, since the Yahoo Search engine is
flaky to the max, is just to keep an editor window open
on your computer and make a tick mark every time you
post. Or keep a paper checklist.

I'm not a moderator, and am only posting this because
during the past two weeks we had a break in the posting
limits, and some folks may have gotten used to the idea
of posting as much as they want. Now the limits are back
in effect, and the penalty for going over the limit is
that you lose your posting rights for a week.

The posting limits sound a tad authoritarian, and some
here think they are. But they were started for a reason,
and the majority of posters think they are still good
and relevant reasons. I find that knowing that I have
a finite number of posts each week makes me stop and
think before I hit the Send key, which in my case is
a very good thing. :-) Happy posting...

So, just in case Rick is thinking of going back to 35 posts per week,
I add my vote for 50/week here.

Nope. Back to 50/week as of midnight central tonight.

Again, if Turq and Judy would JUST STOP THAT NOISE I would be willing
to give them each unlimited posting rights.

By my count Judy’s at 170 and Barry at 117 for the week. My count may be
inflated because I’ve been getting duplicates of some posts via email.

By my count others over 50 include

Me: 114

Curtis: 86

Geezerfreak: 55

You (Edg) and Nabby: 52

Everyone else is under 50.

This is my 64th post according to Yahoo search's last seven days
summary -- which gives various results sometimes, it's said.

So, did I bother anyone with these excess 14 posts? I think I did
pretty good at keeping it all legitimate and didn't have any ditto
or I agree! or You suck! posts that can waste so much time.

Also, though there have been complaints, I have not found any of the
other posters to be egregious either.

So, just in case Rick is thinking of going back to 35 posts per week,
I add my vote for 50/week here.

Rick, what's the story on posting limits for the
rest of the week? You said they'd be lifted until
after MMY's funeral.

Let’s keep them lifted until this Friday night. We’ll reestablish them next
week. So far no one is abusing the privilege.

[FairfieldLife] Posting Limits

2007-10-15 Thread Rick Archer
To Angela and other newcomers. A while back we established a limit of 35
posts per week to “force” people to favor quality over quantity and
hopefully, to cut down on bickering that was resulting in the forum being
overrun with a lot of posts that the majority were not interested in. The
tactic worked pretty well and policy is still in effect. The “counter” is
reset every Friday at midnight. So you might want to pace yourself and
consolidate some of your shorter responses. Your contributions are
appreciated.
