You should be thankful. When I was a kid, Houston was like that. Nobody locked
their doors and even left their keys in their cars. There are still small towns
everywhere like that but they are getting to be fewer and fewer.

There is no compelling reason to own a gun unless you live in the wilderness
and need to hunt game for food. Period. Guns are for cowards.

Wiow, Mike, I can tell you don't live in Fairfield! We Fairfielders have no reason to think like this. We do not have home invasions. I often don't even lock my house at night. No, it's not the custom in India. They were probably spaced out from too much meditating. We locked the door in the small town I grew up in. The state penitentiary was only 17 miles away. One summer morning in the 1980s as I walked by a chez lounge on the lawn I found a makeshift hacksaw sitting by it. Apparently an escaped inmate had taken a snooze on our lawn. Probably just a minimum security inmate non violent so not much to worry about. We have home invasions around here but still have a few locals that brag they never lock their doors. OTOH, we have folks like me who lock our doors and have security cameras. Today was city wide clean up day by the refuse company. I left a bag of batteries, a box with shattered glass from a shower stall and parts of a old office chair. Two years ago I left a much bigger stash there after cleaning out part of my garage. The funny thing is on my extra security cam which is a 1080p webcam pointed out this window to the street I watch passers-by look quizzically at my stuff. Apparently these people never look at their refuse bills (probably auto-paid online) or they would have seen the flier. This happens one week every year in June and is free. On my walk I only found two other houses that had set out stuff. There is no compelling reason to own a gun unless you live in the wilderness
and need to hunt game for food. Period. Guns are for cowards.

I agree that we would all be better off if we had a British or even Japanese
system. but it will never happen here.
I own no guns, by brother who lives a 5 minute walk away from here has at least
3 revolvers, numerous shotguns and rifles including an SKS carbine ( A Russian
semi-automatic) - he has used it in the past for deer hunting. Takes one of his
revolvers with him whenever he gets in his truck.

Everyone has a compelling reason to own a gun. Had one person had a
conceal/carry permit in that church, he could have possibly prevented all of
the others from being killed by a deranged person. Guns and amendments don't
kill people, people kill people. Take away people's rights to own guns legally
and you make them victims to those who could care less about laws telling them
they can't have one.

The gun nuts may rant about their 2nd Amendment rights, but their precious 2nd Amendment is dripping in blood and has been for a long time. What about my rights as an ordinary citizen to walk the streets, go to the mall, go to church, without the fear of getting shot? We need a mass, citizens-inspired movement that will make the government fulfill its responsibilities to protect our safety. No guns for anyone unless they have a very compelling reason to own one. There is no compelling reason to own a gun unless you live in the wilderness and need to hunt game for food. Period.
