I noticed that too...silence, breakthroughs, the Maharishi channel--I mean, what more could one ask for? Oh, wait a minute...

You gotta hand it to them--if this letter is indicative of attitudes on MD...at least they are trying to make the best of what has to be a pretty deplorable situation.

OTOH, we still don't know if they've seen the toilets yet. :)

And this winter has been one of the milder ones we've had. Then again, most of us aren't living on a flat prairie with no trees in a barracks-like environment, either, having little say in what happens to us. Gotta be tough. Whether it's all completely genuine or not, this letter is a lot more optimistic than I could be under similar circumstances.

Buddha in hell--very fitting. :)

I recall a H.S. math teacher of mine saying that if he ever ended up
in prison for some reason, he'd spend his time trying to prove
Fermat's Last Theorm. Seems to me that she's expressing the same
thing, but perhaps more spontaneously: spend the time without
distractions now available in a postive way.

This is the oddest letter. On one hand, it's shot
through with really painful upset and dismay and
resentment, but at the same time the blissy parts
strike me as completely genuine, not cranked up, as
seems so frequently to be the case with MD and
Purusha letters in which you can hear the gears
practically being stripped.

It's like she's feeling both at once, or each in turn
as she looks first outside and then inside herself.
I'd guess she's never had this experience before, or
never so starkly, and doesn't know what the hell to
do with it. On some level she *wants* to be depressed,
and has good reason to be, but somehow that isn't
what's happening.

Maybe I'm just romanticizing, but I'm really hearing
something different in this letter.

Perhaps for the same reasons some people say to
themselves, "It's my karma...I can't do anything
about it," or "God/Nature/TheThreeGunas/Whatever
is doing all of this...it's out of my control."
These stories are easier for some people to believe
than, "I made choices in life that brought me to
this point...if I like where they've brought me,
I bear the responsibility for having made those
choices and for where I wound up. If I don't like
where I've ended up, I also bear the responsibility
for making the choices that brought me there."

It seems to me that if a person believe the first
two stories, or a variant of them, then that person
pretty much has to believe that there is nothing
they can do to change things. But if you believe
the last story, then they can change anything they
want at any moment.

They're all stories, but some stories seem more
practical than others...

That's why the first two words of the letter are "Dear Sponsors..."

Pray for health insurance - non-attachment isn't keeping a stream of
them from getting sick; MD is needing MDs more and more.

They need donations of money, not joy, now that kaplans are no longer
subsidizing the financial gaps in the program.

PS - I like the line in the donations letter about "is this the moon,
no it's Iowa, a takeoff on "is this heaven, no it's Iowa" from the
movie field of dreams.

While I have great reservations, concerns, and downright complaints
about the TMO and MUM in recent years, I always have a soft spot, for
"monks and nuns" who dedicate themselves to IT. While they may be
deluded in a localized spiral of things, I applaud their
non-attachement in the larger sphere of things. And pray for their
soft landing if it comes to that. And ectasyate in their attainments
when it comes to that.

But in concept, in spirit, you gotta love monks and nuns in sustained
deep transcendence. I just hope and pray for you Nancy, and all MD,
and all ThP, that your path is real and bears deep fruit for "you" and
the world. That is a heart-felt ideal. The true realization of that
monkish attainment and influence for the world is worthy of great
donations of joy.

May Bliss, Iowa and MD be One. All blessings and Good Will, aka God
Will, to you and MD in VC.
