My vet gave my anemic cat B12 subQs, but he still needed a transfusion. He was probably a lot more anemic, though. His blood looked like water and he had a red blood cell parasite. Have you checked for that? Here's a nice page (about which you probably already know) about anemia:

There are a couple of issues with Desi; at first glance I'd say he has FIP but if the vet felt a mass that could be a reason why his belly is large but you can fill his backbone; fluid around a tumor. A cat that is FeLV+ will have anemia at some point, pernicious anemia, non regeranative. It

It's not FIP. I have had FIP cats and this is neither the wet nor the dry type.  It's definitely FeLv that is gone active.  However, he is still cheerful, not depressed and he's eating although he is totally finicky and I am trying out different flavors. He's not a fish cat so it's just a tad
