Ken,
Did they do a bone marrow biopsy on Max? I thought
that was the only way to know whether it was in the
bone marrow. Does anyone know if this is right?

Hi Ken,
My name is Wendy. Welcome to the group and I hope it
is as wonderful a source for you as it has been for
me. You and I have very similar situations right now.
My kitty Cricket has been hanging in there for the
past three weeks. To be honest, I haven't seen a
marked improvement in

Thank you very much for your post and thoughts. max is going downhill rapidly and even though he has been eating, I just don't think he will even make it or be strong enough tomorrow for the innumoregulin. I have supplemented his food with iron and pet tinic but I am afraid I found out
Aww Ken, I'm so sorry Max isn't doing well. I know how hard it is to be
away from them at times like these. I'm praying that he bounces back
with the IR and that you have lots more wonderful times together.
Much love to you and Max,
Nina

Ken,
I know EXACTLY how you feel about not wanting to be at
work. All you can do is think and worry about your
kitty. I know it's hard. Just hang in there. I
thought the same thing about Cricket, that he wouldn't
survive long. Part of it was because I had filled my
head with so much
Thank You
You are saying that Cricket hung on for 3 weekso far.Good to hear.
We are scheduled for the immunoregulin tomorrow and since he is so weak and really needs blood, I would like to know if it is something that should be done. Is there anytrhing else I should be doing at this point

Hey Ken - just wondering if you found another vet... Also, there are
some other options - have you used interferon alpha? I give that
every day to my kitties. Hope Max is doing well. I'm sending good
thoughts and prayers for you two.

Ken,
Before I knew something was wrong with Cricket, he
cried when I picked him up as well. That's when I
started noticing something was wrong. Make sure that
the vet tells you whether or not Max has a responsive
anemia or non-responsive anemia, because that is what
tells you what is wrong
I really think he should get a transfusion, but I think it should be
cross-typed.

Hi A blood transfusion is almost 1000 dollars. I am totally broke. If there was any way, I would get it done but I have no credit left and things have been very rough.

Will the vet know that from the first blood tests?
I also understand that the blood should be typed but no one would do it. for less than a grand and I just don't have it.

Ken,
1) I am surprised no one will type the blood as part of the transfusion.
That is how it was done for Simon, and the whole transfusion, including typing
and flushing, was about $400-- and at a large university hospital near
Boston. Have you tried looking for a larger hospital?
2)
Oh, and 4) the vet who wrote that article on I-R says that I-R has saved
some cats who other vets would have transfused, even without a transfusion. I
personally would not take the chance.
Besides that being an outrageously high price well beyond anything I have
ever heard of, there are some online groups that provide money to people who
cannnot afford treatments for their cats. I do not know if they would help
where the outcome is so ambiguous, but if you are interested I

The largest hospital in the country is here and they want a minimum of $1,000. Other hospitals here were the same. The 400, even though it would come out of bills suppose to be paid. I would do.
Hi
I know imom through the other board I am on (feline diabetes)and even some of the people who run it and in better times, I have given them money. I don't feel i could consider it as they supply money monthly to help people take care of diabetic cats. Right now they are struggling and since it

Where are you located? I don't understand the price difference. If you are
in NYC (the only place I can imagine things being so expensive), maybe you could
come to NJ for it.

I do not know where Oradell is. What part of NJ are you in? People
are always raving about Red Bank Veterinary Hospital. There are a few
Veterinary Referral Centers in NJ too, though I can not remember where they
are-- but a search on Google for this term and NJ will probably bring them up.
Also, here is a web link with a list of vet clinics in NJ: http://www.doggeek.com/Vets/New%20Jersey.shtml

Just found out from the vet that it is non regenitive anemia and a transfusion would only prolong the inevitable for a shot time. I think I am going to let my boy rest so there is no pain. He won't come to my house so I am going to try to find a vet that will.
Thank you all for your kindness and

WOW, that seems awfully steep, can you call around and find a vet
that will do it cheaper?
