Re: My little man has gone to rainbow bridge
Dear Michelle, I am so sorry for your loss; my heart breaks for you. How fortunate Bramble was to spend the last 4 months with you. He's watching down on you now as you watched over him in life and the love you shared will live on. Take care of yourself. Love, Julie[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: My dear boy Bramble was put to sleep about an hour ago. I mentioned yesterday that he started to get very stressed with syringe feedingdespite trying to be as calm as possible for him. I kept bringing him out to cuddle him but he was so sick. After going through FIV before and knowing how much of a fight Bramble has had for the last 2-3 years with FIV related symptoms I knew that this was the rihgt time for him to go - he was telling me that he had had enough. When I was last really concerned about him I spoke to him and explained that I love him and really want to help him but that if he had had enough and wanted to leave his body here that it was ok and he couldstay in spirit - he got very uncomfortable about this andalong with signs I had got from praying etc.. I felt he wanted to stay and we kept fighting - this time I spoke to him and he just purred and nuzzled me - he lifted his head up and kissed my mouth - and gave me a little need as if to say I've had enough nowplease help me. His affection and kneading was different this time is was very much a cry for help and comfort. I planned to take him to the vets tomorrow but he was getting more lathargic by the minute so today I phonedand thankfullyhis usual vet was in. Today he cuddled up to me for about 90 minutes before we went to the vet andI was telling him about what would happen - he clung on to me and put his paw i my handand was the most content I've seen him for a while - it was as if he knewit would be our last time together. The vet did her best to try and find something that was treatable whilst I stood sobbing away (she was fighting tears too as she got a bit attached to Bramble) and then said that one of his kidneys had enlarged quite a lotwhich was not the case when he was there about a week ago -she agreed she thought it was time and so I asked for a sedative for him first. He reacted strongly to that and vomited which I haven't seen before but eventually after fighting it for a while calmed down and lay on his fluffy blanket -I kept telling himiy was ok togo to sleep. After he was put to sleep I covered him up with his head and paw sticking out and he looked snug andpeaceful - I gave him lots of kisses and told him to come home whenever he wanted to - and to go and find my last cat Tidge at rainbow bridge until I get there. Once injected he passed quickly and peacfully. I couldn't put him through anymore - he had mentally given up so I had to help him go. Never gets any easier and heart breaking every time - but I am happy that everything was done for him inthe end and happy that he is no longer in pain because I know he was starting to be in pain. It was worth taking him from the sanctuary for the short 4 months or so we had - he was a special little man and a very brave one. Cosmo, I called him Cosimo, died on Saturday of FIP... He was a singleton dropped off at Petco. He had all his shots, neutered, micro chipped and then all of a sudden started losing weight and then the big belly - like jello. It broke my heart, I just thank god he was with me and not been adopted out. He is out of any pain now and with his friends Picasso, Minnow, Albany and many others. Hi Joan, I agree; FIP is the absolute worst. I so wanted it to be something we could fight. He seemed quite happy right up until the time he started to slide on Sunday. Thank you so much for your good thoughts and kind words; he was loved more than words can say and despite having a rather rocky start and end, had a wonderful life. My heart goes out to all of you who have lost a furbaby. There have been too many names added to the list, so sad. I have not been very active in posting since I moved and I have had my hands full myself. But I have tried to keep up with reading posts. Belinda, Please add my Felix to the next CLS. I have been contacted by the hospice that he passed peacefully, apparently while sleeping.( I'm sorry to be so late with this, he passed July 2. (He was non-positive ~ CRF) Also, please add 2 little kittens that passed during/after a "transport gone awry". Long story, but I intervened in a transport (HORROR!!) from a southern shelter and was presented w/ a small, female kitten, deceased en route 8/16. I had her cremated and gave her the name, "Angel", as she was a furangel already. I also took four other kittens, and went immediately to vet. Sadly enough, Tyler passed 8/18, quite suddenly, we suspect distemper was the probable cause for the deaths from this transport... Ellen, the very sick kitten, (1.3 lbs., in this state it is illegal to release a kitten under 2 lbs.!!), is hanging on, but we are taking it day by day. But she tested neg. on first Felv test.. The other two kittens, Moonshade Taylor appear to be doing better, they have vet appt. tom'w. for thorough exam testing. Would you please add Felix, Angel Tylerto the next CLS? Also, add little Ellen, Taylor Moonshade to the prayer list??? Also, please add Charity, a non-pos feral mom I trapped (was dumped w/ her 2 kittens). She is non pos, as are her kittens, but please pray that my attempts to "socialize" her will be successful. And that I find good homes for her babies, Timothy Thomas, who have turned out to be little love-muffins. :) Thank you so much, and I am sorry this is so long, but like I said, I've had my hands full since my move. Once again, my prayers go out to all that have lost a beloved baby. In my heart I know we all will be reunited one day Hugs to all, Patti
Re: Tater Tot

Terri, I'm so sorry about Cosmo. So many babies dying it's hard to bare. Sheila
Re: CLS
Patty you have had so much on you. I don't know how you do it. I'm so sorry for your losses and you will be in our prayers. Sheila
Re: CLS
Shelia, Thank you for your kind words and prayers. The past few years have been tremendously difficult times for me.. My health problems have forced me into "early retirement", but I have finally been granted SSDI. I believe everyone has a "purpose" in life. I've always believed mine was to work with and help all creatures. Now that I am a full time "stay at home Mom" for my own babies, I believe that being able to help these "cast aways" has actually helped me deal with my own problems, "fulfilling" my purpose in this lifetime. I was just saying on another list I have even become the local "Goldfish Rescue". My new homehas a pond that was not completed, so one of my first projects was to get it "up running". I guess word got out, this is a very small town, and I've had desperate parents coming to me with the poor little fish their kids have won at the local carnivals!! So despite all the heartbreaks, there are "Happy Endings", and I know now that is what keeps me going. Hugs, Patti

Kerry, Thank you for taking the time to put this info on Immuno-regulin together for Margaret. I'm going to send it to my vet too. I've never used it, but with the success others have had on the list with it, I'm hoping it might help Grace. She's been listless and generally not feeling well again. It's a constant on and off again thing with her and it always sends me into such a panic. Doxycycline does help her, but I don't want to keep her on such a strong antibiotic indefinitely. Whatever is troubling her, the Dox helps, but it doesn't seem to be able to get rid of the problem, (we've always suspected Hemobart, but her test was negative). Say a prayer for my Princess Grace, that this is the answer to help her remain healthy and kick whatever this problem is. Nina Kerry MacKenzie wrote: Margaret, a PS to Michelle's email-- Revival's tel no is 800 786 4751. I had never ordered it before and neither vet had ever used it but they were both very positive about doing so and liaised with me about the protocol/how much to use---it comes with directions in any case (although I haven't seen those because it's at the clinics). At least I now have it on hand should Mickey (or the NJ FeLVkitty I will be getting soon) need it. Here's also a copy of the relevant excerpts of what I emailed to Dr Dodinwho was going to be administering the IR--there's some info you may find useful, Margaret. Good luck. I'm sending positive healing vibes for your sweet Misty. Kerry Dear Dr Dodin Here are the 3 articles that give background on Immunoregulin for FeLV cats. (It is given by IV.) I placed an order with Revival Animal Healththis morning for 5ml of ImmunoregulinEqstim, and it will be shipped today, overnighted to Abell, marked for your attention, so should be there tomorrow (Wednesday). It will come in a "Polar" box, and will need refrigeration when it arrives. (They said a cat of 8lb is administered between 0.25 and 0.5 ml each time.) There appear to be 2 possible protocols--4 times in first 2 weeks, then once a week till stabilized, then monthly recommended thereafter for maintenance; OR once a week. Re: Tater Tot
Ohhh Julie, I'm so sorry to hear about Tater. He lived his little life with gusto though, didn't he? I can just see him pulling at your apron strings, batting at his sibling's tails. What a little love! It's so very hard to lose them, no matter what the circumstances. I hope you can take some comfort in the fact that it was very clear that it was indeed his time and that he enjoyed his life up to the last. I know how hard it is going to be to tie those apron strings, all those little 'ritual' things that we've taken such joy in can be such a torment at first. It was a very long time before I was able to make myself a cup of tea after Jazz left me, (she used to come running out of nowhere, trilling her head off, begging for the balled up wrapper to bat around). Now when I do have a cup of tea, or when I sit down and think of her jumping on my lap before I'm settled, I can feel her presence, I know she's still with me. Sometimes I can even feel her little paw tapping me on my thigh, asking to come up on the computer desk while I type. Pay attention to those apron strings, he's right there batting at them still. Much love to you my dear, Nina Julie Johnson wrote: Dear Friends, My sweet little man is gone. Sunday evening he started having seizures; we rushed him to the ER and chose to end his suffering. He'd been hanging in there; Saturday night he got up and checked out the fresh catnip on the scratching pad and Sunday morning he was the first one at the food dish, although he didn't eat much. He started to go downhill rather quickly on Sunday afternoon and I was preparing to call the ER when the seizures started. I hope he knew we were with him; I think he did. He was only 6 years of age and he was such a silly little busybody. He had to grab my apron strings every morning when I was getting ready to feed and he loved to eat from the top level of the condo so he could lean down and grab the tail of whoever was below. Patti, Felix and the heartache of rescue
Aww Patti, I was so very saddened to hear about your beloved Felix passing! I know how much you love him. You loved him enough to think of his welfare over your own feelings of loss. You put him first, because you knew he would be better off somewhere else. Such an unselfish thing to do. Now it must feel like you've lost him all over again. But of course, we know that's not true. Now he's free. Free to be healthy, whole, strong and young again. Free to be by your side. Oh, my heart aches for what you have been going through. You're one tough lady to dive back into rescue. I know all the little ones that need you, including those goldfish, are grateful that you've found the strength to do what you are called to do. Doesn't that tell you something, that even goldfish in need find their way to you? Bless you Patti, and thank you so much. Thank you for being brave enough to jump back into the fray. I know you'll be able to help Charity see that some humans are worthy of trust. Be patient, give her the time and space she needs. Please write me off-list if you want to brainstorm about her. When we have the opportunity to introduce these neglected angels to a life of love and safety, it's a blessing to us, as well as them. All they've ever know is rejection and fear and now she has you! She'll change your life, just wait and see. Such a sad story about the transport babies! I recently wrote the following to Gloria about her little Sunshine and the heartbreaks of rescue. The words seemed to come 'through' my heart, rather than merely 'from' it. Does that make sense? It's like the words had a source other than just me. I'm hoping it will bring you comfort too: Sometimes I wonder just how many tears one woman can shed. You know, usually I say it's the successes that keep me going. The ones that make it to wonderful forever homes, the ones that miraculously regain strength and health. But, you know what? The faces of the fragile little angels that come to me too late, the ones that seem so happy for the short time of being loved and cried over and cuddled, the ones that are so grateful for an afternoon lying in the peaceful sunshine... The ones that never stay long enough, but leave such an impression on my heart, those babies keep me going too. It's all about love and connection, the amount of time in love has nothing to do with the depth of our emotion and spiritual growth. These special souls sent to touch us, even if it's only a heartbeat of time, tell me to muster the strength to go on. I'm doing what I should be doing, and so are you. I'm praying for fragile little Ellen, Moonshade and Taylor to rebound and gain health and vigor. Bless you and all those in your care. Much love, Nina [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: My heart goes out to all of you who have lost a furbaby. (He was non-positive ~ CRF) Also, please add 2 little kittens that passed during/after a transport gone awry. Long story, but I intervened in a transport (HORROR!!) from a southern shelter and was presented w/ a small, female kitten, deceased en route 8/16. I had her cremated and gave her the name, Angel, as she was a furangel already. Would you please add Felix, Angel Tyler to the next CLS? Also, add little Ellen, Taylor Moonshade to the prayer list??? Also, please add Charity, a non-pos feral mom I trapped (was dumped w/ her 2 kittens). She is non pos, as are her kittens, but please pray that my attempts to socialize her will be successful. And that I find good homes for her babies, Timothy Thomas, who have turned out to be little love-muffins. :) Thank you so much, and I am sorry this is so long, but like I said, I've had my hands full since my move. Once again, my prayers go out to all that have lost a beloved baby. In my heart I know we all will be reunited one day Hugs to all, Patti
signing angel Bramble
signing Angel Bramble is a lovely idea - thanks. I just visited the Candle light service site today for the first time to have a browse wondering how to add Bramble and it was lovely to see he is already there. The candle light service wasn't something I was too familiar with but who ever keeps up that site thankyou it is lovely Michelle, Buddy, Minstrel angel Bramble.
Re: signing angel Bramble
Michelle, Our wonderful Belinda maintains the CLS site. Bless her heart for doing so. There are so many times I'm too sad about our losses to even bring myself to visit, and she, week in and week out, makes sure all our beloved Angels are remembered. If you click on the little rainbow circle next to my Jazz, you'll find her picture there. Belinda was so very kind to include it for me. Why don't you send that lovely photo of you and Bramble that you sent me? I'm sure everyone would want to see him and you, you can feel how much love the two of you share. I'm so glad you've kept Angel Bramble in your signature. It feels right, doesn't it? Nina [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: signing Angel Bramble is a lovely idea - thanks. Re: housing/fostering of FeLV+ cats
It's taking me forever to catch up on my email, and I feel very bad about that. I've been looking at mail for mid-July and I'm really REALLY sorry to see the lambasting that Karolyn got from Jenn after Jenn misread Karolyn's email. Karolyn said: .If you can get the cat to me I will take it sight unseen ie Karolyn quite clearly said cat singular. There was no ambiguity. From everything I have read from Karolyn and Jenn they are both good people. This is a general plea to a) please read email correctly before hitting the keyboard and b) think before you respond. I thought hard for all of 20 seconds before writing this, but I really do feel i have to stand up and defend Karolyn here, who did not deserve this and was commendably restrained in her response. I know some will say it's over and done with, and Jenn apologized, and I shouldn't drag this up now, but that's the trouble with the written word--it's there forever, and it shocked me right here tonight. Kerry - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Friday, July 15, 2005 8:53 AM Subject: Re: housing/fostering of FeLV+ cats Wait, you said you will take in EVERY FELV+ cat that is offered to you, sight unseen? How many do you have now? I know of about 200 or so in need of homes at any given time. I can call all of the shelters and tell them to stop euthanising FELV+ cats, and instead give them all to you. Sorry, I hate to be a sarcastic sounding bitch, but your offer rings of insincerity and/or an unrealistic offer. Can you provide two veterinary references, plus three personal references not related to you? Are you a member of, or have you worked with any rescue groups? If so, can we have their contact info? Do you have pictures of your property and current cats? How large is your cat house? Are all cats kept indoors only, or contained in some kind of cat proof fencing? Do you cage cats, or let them roam freely in the house? How far do you pursue treatment for these cats, do you use any of the treatments listed on our website? At what point do you consider it time to let a cat go, and humanely euthanise him/her? Do you have a staff, or do you take care of all the litterboxes, feeding, medical care, vet visits, grooming, and socializing yourself? Maybe you are a kind person who just does not realize the scope of the problem outside your own little area. With an offer like you just made, you would be overrun with hundreds of cats within days to weeks. All of us here try to take in what we can, when we can. There is only a limited number of cats any one person can manage at one time. I was one of the Founders of Island Cat Rescue, 11 yrs. ago. At the present time I am a member of 2nd Chance Cat Rescue. All the cats are kept indoors except for the patio that has Fence In around the top of it. I have been taking in Felv+ cats for 13yrs. I have been a client of Dr.Wong of Blue Cross Pet Hosp., in San Francisco for 22yrs. At times I have used Alameda Pet Hosp, Providence Hosp, both in Alameda. and I have used Broadway Pet Hosp. in Oakland since they are open on Sundays. In addition I have taken several cats to Univ. of Calif., at Davis Vet. College. All cats get the very best of medical care until the FeLV takes over, then they are helped over the Rainbow Bridge. When I said I would take a cat unseen I have done this for yrs. Some one would call me about a FeLV+ cat that needed a home. I didn't care if it was young/old, cute/ugly shy, etc. It was a FeLV cat that need a home. If I had room I would say yes. I would even get calls from well known rescue groups. I will only take one at a time as it is only fair to the cats that I now have and the new cat. The lady that comes to help once a week is a retired Head Officer from the city of Alameda Animal Control. Since I am an older lady plans have been made in a Trust for the cats when I pass on.
