Paola, I mix my positive with my negatives in my home. I have had a total of 8
positives inside with my negatives over the last 3 yrs. All except 1 have
crossed the Rainbow Bridge. My negatives are kept current on their FeLV
vaccine. Each cat there own food plate but they don't always eat fr
a question, I saw posts from 2 people having FeLV+ cats in the house with non
affected cats. How do you gys manage that?
I just rescued a stray that turned out to be incredibly sweet and FeLV+ but I
have 6 others that are indoor/outdoor so they are all vaccinated for FeLV but

We are a huge shelter with cats mingling in rooms. I guess if you could hold
each cat for 6 months & retest before introducing them to other cats you may be
safe, but I don't see how any shelter could take that chance.
While we require our adopted cats to be indoor only, someone could rescue a ca
They may have. They have a Dr. on call & they did what he told them to do. I've
never had a problem with Metacam, but there are side affects & problems with
all medications.

I am curious about vaccinating them. I usually leave that up to the
adopter...my vet recommends agst the vaccine unless the cat is going to go
outside. I have not vaccinated my last cat and won't vaccinate the one I am
bringing home today.
My others were vaccinated several times before I discontinu
Really...I got blasted for it by some very fair & trusted people! Be
interested in hearing what happens with this, first and foremost, hope the
cats recover well.

No, it's the FIV vaccine, not FeLV vaccine, after which cats will always
test positive for FIV!!

I'm not aware of any of the cats being given Metacam. Metacam has to be very
precisely dosed & not given for extended periods of time. I've used it many
times with no problems.

Thanks for the warning. My house kitties get annual FeLV boosters since I have
an indoor positive kitty.
Just a comment about the treatment given the sick kittens. Please avoid using
Metacam as a pain med for cats. A single oral dose of Metacam can cause acute

No, not when vaccinated for Feline Leukemia, the one that causes positive
tests after vaccination is for FIV. I have never heard of a cat testing
positive for Feline Leukemia because it was vaccinated for it.

I think they do test positive after being vaccinated.

These were healthy cats who were to be going to Petsmart locations or to be
adopted from our cage-free shelter. We vaccinate all cats being put up for
adoption.

If you still have some of that vaccine, don't throw it away, it needs to be
tested. I do not see how a supposedly killed virus vaccine would cause a
positive on a restest.

I'm so glad that all are OK! I don't trust any vaccines - besides, all
vaccines do not guarantee anything; they are only 80% effective according to
my vet.
I assume that these were healthy cats that were vaccinatedwhy are they
being vaccinated? Will they be living with FeLV+ cats, outside in
I work with Furkids. My best friend & her family stayed there until 1am giving

the cats were testing positive for FeLV when they were retested.
