[Felvtalk] My heart is broken

2012-02-05 Thread botha . marinda4
My darling ginger cat has been diagnosed with feline leukemia. I am devastated
because the vet says that there is nothing he can do to help us. We try our
uttermost best to feed our cat but don't know what to do to help our darling.
Is there some kind of medication that we could recommend to our vet? Could
someone PLEASE help us to get through this traumatic experience? We live in
South Africa and don't know where to get help. Please help us! Marinda

[Felvtalk] Hope

2012-02-06 Thread botha . marinda4
To all the wonderful people who replied to my message yesterday: thank you for
giving me hope! My ginger kitty is still not well and is extremely lethargic. I
spoke to our vet today and he is ordering Interferon right away. Natalie sent
me some information on medication and I shared it with our vet. He will also
give kitty a vitamin booster and an appetite stimulant. I feel better now that
I know we can at least try something. Thanks so much for your support! Regards
Marinda

[Felvtalk] Despair

2012-02-06 Thread botha . marinda4
I think my kitty is dying! He refused all food today. We tried to feed him with
a syringe but he is battling! Is it better to let my angel go to heaven? I
can't see him suffer like this! I love him too much! He is just lying in the
corner of the bedroom, hiding from us. This is a terrible disease! Marinda !

[Felvtalk] News about Ginger

2012-02-07 Thread botha . marinda4
My vet ordered Interferon and Cyproheptadine. The vet suspects leukemia is
already in kitty's bone marrow. Ginger kitty refuses to eat his food but tried
to eat his cat litter last night. What should I do? Euthanasia? I can't see my
darling suffer like this! Marinda

It's been a few weeks since we lost our ginger kitty. I am still so sad about
my darling! Do you think I should get another kitty so soon after his death? I
feel I would kind of betray my Ginger kitty. Could you please advice me what to

told him boy you sure are an ugly kittyhe looked at me with his loving
beautiful eyes?and gave the sweetest yet strangest meowand instantly he
became one of the most beautiful cats I had the honor to know and love...he had
a wonderful home for about the last 6 months with our wonderful volunteer
Marcia...she has taken home several extra special needs Sids kids and has lost
them within this last year...bless her warm heart for taking home some of the
most wonderful cats
?
Foley,oh Foley...he went home almost a year ago with Julie another awesome kind
hearted lady that also has taken home many special Sids kids and have lost so
many too recently...well this wonderful tiger boy left this world today...my
heart is broken...I was going to go visit him and several of the other former
Sids kids this sunday,,,but Julie sent me a message today that she has to let
him go...I will be getting a clay paw print of his...he has a paw print in my
heart as do all the wonderful Sids kidsso much sadness lately. :( Bless
you all...hug your babies tight...

Yesterday was a sad day I had my beautiful, sweet calico kitten,
Maggie, euthanized. She was only 9 months old. Her sister, Molly, was
euthanized last month, and they are buried side by side in the woods next
to our house. I took in this litter of 4 FelV kittens in July knowing
they'd probably all die, and consequently break my heart, but I had room
in my FelV sanctuary so I wanted to give them a chance, and they had 9
happy months living in the upstairs of my large rescue building in town.

I watched them running thru their rooms, scooting thru the tunnels,
climbing up the cat posts, and walking across the wall walks which were
built just for them, and they were happy kittens. Their three rooms upstairs
were all made into a cat play ground and also had second hand furniture below
the walk ways where I could sit and cuddle them or they could sleep. They had
a good life, and longer than they'd have had if I hadn't taken them in from
the person who was going to have them PTS because of the FelV virus.

For 8 months they seemed to be in perfect health, and I actually believed
they'd be fine, but then Molly, who was also a calico, got sick. Maggie
still seemed fine but a bit more quiet, but within a week or so she went
downhill fast. Two of the precious kittens from this litter are still
with us, and so far they seem in good health, but for how long? No doubt
I'll be in tears again when this horrible virus over takes them.

Lorrie

Praying for your babies health.

Turns out it does not look like FIP, looks like hemolytic anemia,

again. Now he is really bad. I don't know what his chances are at this
point, but I do not think they are good, though the vets say he can turn
around. He just got a transfusion and they are starting him on
cyclosporine, a stronger immune suppressant. And doxycycline.

Please send him prayers. He is FIV+, not FeLV+, though he has had as
many issues as my FeLV cats did. I got back on this list looking for
feline interferon, which I don't need, but one thing I know this list is
good for is prayers. Please pray it's a good Christmas for Bear and he
responds well to the transfusion and the cyclosporine.

thank you,
Michelle

Hello, folks...I haven't had any Felv kitties in a while but now have a
positive who is close to a year old. She was just pulled from a local
shelter...she had begun eating litter and wasn't going to get any vet care. She
had been tested when she came to the shelter a few months ago and they knew she
was positive but no followup care or testing was done.

We immediately took her to our vet for bloodwork...she is anemic but not bad
enough yet for a transfusion, and the anemia is definitely non-regenerative.

We think that she was probably born positive...the group of cats she came in
with...30 or so...had a number of positive adults, none altered. So her life
will likely be quite short, and already being anemic doesn't bode well.

SO...those of you who have dealt with a kitty in this situation...what do you
recommend to give her the best chance at the most quality time? I have always
found that info from this list was better than from vets who deal only
marginally with Felv.

Thank you!
