When do cats throw up?

2007-02-05 Thread Paolo
Now I am obviously hyper-sensitive towards Rompi, but there is something
he always did in the past: when he eats some herbs [or grass, sorry,
I am not sure about the appropriate English word], after some hours he
always trow up, and there you find the herb [grass], still whole.

Do your cats behave the same way?...

Hideyo, I AM INTERESTED in Acemannan, but I won't be able to talk to the

If you have someone other interested and moving faster than me, please
go on... otherwise I will write you on Wednesday or Monday.

Re: Rompi

2007-02-04 Thread Paolo
Tonya,

thank you for your thoughts. Yes, thanks to the advices from you all
I succeeded in subscribing to the Feline Lymphoma and Feline Cancer
groups. It results that I am no longer subscribed to Feline Anemia (!)
although I regularly receive all the posts from that group (!).
I am just afraid of un-subscribing and re-subscribing right away to
Anemia (in order to reset the situation) because I feel that I would
start receiving the same mail twice!!!... So, in the doubt... ;)

Today I am trying to schedule a visit with the oncologist for tomorrow
or thursday. I have even found a pharmacy that gets me pure L-Lysine and
pure Dimethylglycine in powder, in 50 or 100 g cans, inexpensive,
so Rompi is on both and on Omega3-EPA-DHA, doing great even if it's not
a therapy but just a support.

I remind to everybody that little O.T. of mine, posted saturday... ;)

Michelle, please don't go: take a DEEP breath, but do not go.
I feel so stupid.

Sorry for running away but actually I have to run to work!

Kisses to everybody
Paolo

O.T.

2007-02-03 Thread Paolo
Just to leave my brain cool down a little, an O.T. for the group.

Is there any of you (or a close relative/friend) located in the area
of Willimantic, CT?

You can write me in private, if you think it's the case.

Re: Rompi's surgery has been cancelled

2007-02-02 Thread Paolo
I don't know why but I am feeling relief that Rompi's surgery was
cancelled.

It is exactly the same for me... but I feel that Rompi's magic could
break down at any time. I feel he is (we are) walking on eggs.
I need to get in touch with an EMINENT American oncologist to have some
opinion and input about the chemo protocols they proposed me, but I need
it NOW!!! I feel like sitting on a time bomb.

Paolo

Rompi's surgery has been cancelled

2007-02-01 Thread Paolo
do they have Abbott Costello movies in Italy?

Not only... Oliver Hardy too :) And now a local network is passing
Quincy ME at 7am!!!

When you signup it automatically GIVES you a @ yahoo.com email address, BUT,
you
don't have to use it for your yahoogroups if you don't want to. You just make
something up there, anything, you could be [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you
want to. Once you get an account set up, you can add additional email
addresses to
it, and choose which one you want your email to go to.

Phaewryn, that's GREAT! Even because I have just discovered that
my former Yahoo ID for the Feline Anemia group is not assigned,
even if I am receiving posts from that group, so there is something
definitely corrupted, or out of order, with that ID. At this point
I am going to sign up as a new user to Feline Cancer and Feline
Lymphoma, trying to have posts sent to my regular address.

This is a must, because Rompi's surgery has been cancelled.
I took Rompi in this morning, but when I talked to the surgeon about
the operation, he told me that he examined Rompi's echographies, RX and
bloodwork very carefully; considering that Rompi behaves just like he
doesn't know he has got a tumor, the surgeon expressed his position that
surgery would have been far too invasive and of uncertain outcome.
He suggested to leave Rompi in peace with surgery and to go on with
chemo and nutrition supplements only. Now, I can admit that I am more
than relieved that the surgeon chose to not disturb what is, to my
eyes, a miracle on paws.

At this point, I have to go full throttle for information on chemotherapy
options and lymphomas (Yahoo groups are now a must), and food supplements.
From now on, Rompi will rely only on those to survive.

Re: Mylo's Passing

2007-02-01 Thread Paolo
Chris, I too went through that, too much times... and every time,
one just cannot believe it hurts so much, and to bear it once more seems
impossible... but...
Today, while I was at the vet's with Rompi, there was a lady with a
black kitty, female, two years old, with asthma... she was black with
a small white whiff under her neck... she was just so MAGIC, with that
look in her eyes, so tender... the look of the good cat. I was about to
steal her right there! :) In that moment I understood that,
notwithstanding anything, it's impossible to live without cats, and that
the horrible, exhausting experience of letting them go is the toll for
what we have received from them during their life. We could discuss if
that toll is fair or too high, but that's it.

Paolo
P.S. I'm going to call the vet's to ask when the black kitty with asthma
is scheduled next time... ;)

Re: acemannan side effects?

2007-02-01 Thread Paolo
Hideyo,

you can contact this doctor:

Dr. Greg Biehle, DVM
Brykerwood Veterinary Clinic
1501 W. 35th Street
Austin, TX 78703
(512) 454-3833
E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

He is the head of Acemannan. Ask him and, *please*, report here
on the list what he said you. I am desperate. As you probably saw,
my Rompi can't have surgery, he can rely only on chemotherapy and
food supplements to survive, and the oncologists here have discarded
Acemannan as principal therapy vs. conventional chemo because it seems
to be not as effective as it is pretended. Now you say that the visible
tumor in your Jojo has gone away with Acemannan...
I HAVE LESS THAN 24 HOURS BEFORE STARTING CHEMO AND MY HEAD IS JUST
BLOWING UP! Please tell here your Jojo story, and do call that man!!!

Thank you
Paolo (panicking again)

RE: acemannan side effects?

2007-02-01 Thread Paolo
Hideyo,

Acemannan is not reported to have any serious side effect, its toxicity
is next to zero...the problem is that ON SOME CATS IT DOESN'T WORK AT ALL!
Could you please be more specific about the nature of Jojo's tumor?
Lymphoma? Sarcoma? Fibrosarcoma? Do you have cytologic/histologic exams?

Paolo (at the point of exploding)

Acemannan... D**N!!!

2007-02-01 Thread Paolo
Acemannan is not registered in Europe, and for the same reason cannot
even be shipped here in Italy. The only possibility is Switzerland
(not member of the European Union), and from there to Italy. Time is above
one month.
A box of four doses of 10 mg each costs about 200 Euros, minimum order
is three boxes, total about 600 euros.
Here we have something strange, Elizabeth, because your boxes contained
FIVE doses, not four... were 10 mg doses? Could you please tell me the
COMMERCIAL NAME of your injectable Acemannan? Was it CARRAVET?
Do you have any factory reference code?
My problem is not the 600 euros: it is the 30 day, and it is that it
could simply not work.

Just to summarize: Elizabeth, Mama Kitty had FeLV/anemia but NOT any
tumor, right? Hideyo, direct Acemannan injection into the tumor is
reported in literature, but with SARCOMA OR FIBROSARCOMA, not LYMPHOMA
(like with my Rompi). Please be more precise about Jojo's tumor,
pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease...

Paolo (definitely panicking)

Re: Acemannan... D**N!!!

2007-02-01 Thread Paolo
Another possibility could be the Vatican City Pharmacy... the Vatican
City in Rome (Holy See) is a State by itself, and its pharmacy can get
drugs not registered in Italy... now I remember that lots of people go
there to get cancer/AIDS drugs not available on the other side of the
square... Hideyo PLEASE! Post here a resume of Jojo's story, but with
all the details you have about the tumor, tomorrow morning I am going
to talk to another oncologist about Acemannan, but I *must* have precise
data to submit to him!

Paolo (exhausted/depressed...)

RE: Acemannan... D**N!!!

2007-02-01 Thread Paolo
Hideyo,

I am going to sleep because for today I have given all I could give...
Please, I ask you one last favour, I will read it tomorrow morning
before going to work, now I simply do not have the time to do it by
myself (it's 23:15 over here).
Please post the summarized history of Jojo, FIV/FeLV status, what you
know of the tumor(s) [number/position] but especially HOW you
administered Acemannan:

- WHERE (point or points of injection)
- HOW MANY TIMES and TIME INTERVAL IN BETWEEN (if more than once)
- DOSES (if you remember it)
- TIME BETWEEN SHOT(S) AND REGRESSION OF TUMOR(S)

I need these data in order to have something CONCRETE to submit to
the oncologist.

Now I can go to bed and faint...

Something ODD with Yahoo groups (sorry Michelle...)

2007-01-31 Thread Paolo
My deepest excuses to you all and especially to Michelle that is having
an hard time with Lucy... tomorrow, at this precise time, will be my turn.

I would ask to anybody subscribed to the Feline Anemia group of Yahoo,
to check this issue.

When you receive the Digest (if you are in digest mode), if you click on
the Create new topic or Visit your group on the web links (bottom of
the Email), are you sent to a page where you are already logged in
(because you were authenticated by the link embedded in the very Email)
or do you need to login anyway?

I am NOT logged in, and this is definitely odd, because I am clicking on
a link embedded in an Email that I received being a legitimate subscriber
of that group... it looks sort of having been deleted from the Feline
Anemia subscribers, except for the only fact that I am still receiving the
posts. Your feedback would be the only way to understand what is really
going on.

Thank you again
Paolo

Re: to Wendy

2007-01-31 Thread Paolo
Sorry again folks, this is the answer to Wendy's mail of yesterday,
I am losing my pieces along the road... I hope this can be of some
interest to everybody, of course.

Is Rompi's surgery to remove the mass, or to just take a look?

Wendy, Rompi's surgery would be (hopefully) intended to remove the
mass, BUT, should the mass turn out to be located on the pancreas
OR on the ileocaecal valve, they will be unable to remove it safely,
and in this case the mass would be left there (but they would pick up
a sample anyway, for biopsy).

Michelle is our resident lymphoma expert.
She's really knowledgeable on the matter.

I believe you, but now I prefer to leave Michelle in peace with the
troubles she's having already...

Have you looked into chemo for Rompi? What about epogen for the anemia?

Rompi is NOT anemic, luckily! His blood panel is that of a 1-year old cat,
and FIV-/FeLV-... not even fleas. At least! (I subscribed to Feline Anemia
group at the time when we were struggling against Frizzina's anemia, that
would have eventually killed her... but Frizzina was FeLV+)

We talked about chemo yesterday, even because vet's own cat had chemo and
a lymphoma removed 3 years ago (still alive and happy), but not in depth
due to lack of further info on what's going on inside. I have a personal
list of items for the times to come: nutrition supplements (L-Lysine, DMG
and Omega3-EPA-DHA on top), and I would like to try Acemannan as a general
support (but not intended to replace chemo).

Oh, I wish to take advantage of this mail to ask you two more things.

The first one is (again) on Yahoo groups: have those of you that are
members of Feline Anemia the possibility to scroll a MEMBERS LIST?...
Just to see if I show up there, who knows...

The second one is about the 10-days period between surgery and the
removal of stitches. The vet indicated, as an alternative to the evil
plastic gorget (here in Italy it is called Elizabethan collar, don't
know in the USA but for sure you know what I am talking about), to use
a wool or cotton sleeve to protect his abdomen, like a vest or shirt,
but with sleeves, because without something to pass his front legs
through, he would push down the edge quite easily. I would absolutely
prefer this solution because the Elizabethan collar would keep Rompi
from eating, drinking, grooming, and just resting.

Do you have any experience with the shirt? Any photo to share?
Any suggestion?

Thank you to everybody
Paolo

Now I am too much calm...

2007-01-31 Thread Paolo
I am probably going nuts, but now I am perfectly calm and I feel there
is something wrong with this, sort of I am going to panic because
I am not longer panicking... OK, later on this...

i sent you an off-list email yesterday, with a link

MaryChristine, sorry I didn't see it, yesterday I was panicking...
I tried that link and it drives me straight to the usual wizard page,
nothing new unluckily...

You can subscribe to yahoogroups if you want to, you just refuse to do it

Phaewrin, I tried *all* the links you provided me, but I assure you that
nothing worked... On the other hand, you are 50% right: I am not refusing
to create a new ID, simply I don't want to have that kind of Email sent to
*any* webmail portal, because saving it on my local disk, merging
everything into a *single file* would be atrocious! I want it sent to my
regular account! BUT... I have just noted that many subscribers of Feline
Anemia have a non-Yahoo address, so meaning that IT IS POSSIBLE!!!

And so, in the page for creating a new ID
(http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/4528/screenshotqo1.jpg) why the
Yahoo ID is pre-filled with the @yahoo.com domain? Is the Yahoo ID the
address where they will send the posts of that group, or not? So how did
the non-Yahoo subscribers to put in their address?!? I am confused...

Renee, thank you very much for the photo, it has been very helpful
(and Emily is beautiful, and has got some amazing paws, I always fall in
love with cats with large paws!!!)

Re: Rompi

2007-01-30 Thread Paolo
Wendy,

thank you for asking. Rompi's surgery has been scheduled for thursday
morning. Today's RX showed nothing abnormal, apart that evil thing with
the diameter of a golf ball. Rompi has no symptoms, eats like a lion,
evacuates like a lion, is FIV-/FeLV- and the vet says that his blood test
panel would make happy a lot of 1-year old kitties (rompi is 14).

I need INFORMATION, I cannot subscribe to the lymphoma and cancer Yahoo

5 or 6 years ago) but NO ONE ANSWERS

Re: Please pray for Lucy

2007-01-28 Thread Paolo
Michelle,

please do remember, *always*, that a 100% reliable assessment of FIP
(dry or wet) CANNOT be made until the cat is alive: only necroscopic
exams could tell the final word. There is plenty of cases of cats
definitely diagnosed with FIP, that did not have it, just a panel
of symptoms that resembled (but actually were not) FIP... ;)

Rompi

2007-01-27 Thread Paolo
Sorry for not having written before, yesterday I was just too shocked
and needed a rest to gather my ideas. In addition, very high stress
always induces me sleep, just could not stay awake.

We haven't assessed more specifically the type of lymphoma yet, but are
going to do it between today and monday.

Michelle, I have a problem with Yahoo groups. I am a subscriber of the
feline anemia group since 2000 or maybe even before, so I guess I have
an User ID and password (but my Email address is not with Yahoo, as you
can see). But now, at 7+ years, I cannot remember my ID or password any
longer. The strange thing is that I remember there was a security
question to be answered, that I filled in at the moment of subscription,
that should serve to retrieve ID and/or Password. But I am unable to
find where to access to that question.

In addition, even trying to create a new profile as a new user, Yahoo
only accepts @yahoo.com addresses where to send group posts. This is
definitely odd.

Is it possible that, being a member of the Feline Anemia group already,
and so receiving the posts, there isn't a way to have me recognized as
a legitimate user? Is there a way to write to a human being at Yahoo,
and not to a stupid automated answer system?

Soon

Rompi has lymphoma

2007-01-26 Thread Paolo
Just back from the vet's, talked to the oncologist, the result of the
analysis is that the 4 cm mass felt by palpation and visualized by
ecography is lymphoma. Feel devastated but do not surrender.
I am going to dig the archives, the web and my old arsenal.

Acemannan or Carrisyn

2007-01-24 Thread Paolo
After so much time keeping an eye on the list, and writing only on
particular circumstances, now I am the one that is needing your help.

My cat Rompi, probably, has a tumor near his stomach.

It is not certain yet, the precise assessment is still to be done,
tomorrow I'll take him in for an exam whose English name I don't remember
(being my big dictionary at work, I'm at home now) but very common.
So it could be or could not be, but in these cases being optimistic is not
very useful.

*If* it turns out to be a tumor, and *if* the oncologyst assesses that
there is room for chemio, in that case I would propose to try
Acemannan, aka Carrisyn. It seems to be a localized mass, so injecting
the stuff in it could just work. I say again, there is nothing certain
today, but I need to save time, since Acemannan/Carrisyn seems not to be
manufactured here in Europe, please correct me if I'm wrong.

What I need is to localize a source (pharmacy, or the very Carrington)
that has Acemannan off-the-shelf, and have it shipped to me in the
shortest time. Should that thing turn out not to be a tumor, well,
I will donate my Acemannan to some person in need, on or off the list.
But if it is... I'm going to need it damn fast.

Could any of you give me the present situation about Acemannan?
Right after sending this message, I am going to dig the internet for
info, so I'll be online at least for the next five hours, in case.

Thank you in advance.
Paolo

Re: P.S.

2007-01-24 Thread Paolo
Thank you Elizabeth, in effects, notwithstanding Acemannan and
Carrisyn are sometimes used as synonyms, I am beginning to suspect
that they aren't actually synonyms. I will stick with Acemannan.

This is becoming a nightmare

2007-01-24 Thread Paolo
Sorry to harass you folks... I have written an Email to VPL, stating
very clearly in the subject line it was damn URGENT...

VPL is in Phoenix, AZ... is there any of you located in that area that
could give them a ring on the phone, telling them to have a D**M look
at the Email from a desperate in Italy?...

Their phone is 1.888.241.9545 (uhm... is it a toll free number from
anywhere in the USA?)

Many thanks again, I am falling asleep from the stress.

Again on Acemannan

2007-01-24 Thread Paolo
Hi all,

I just received an Email from Central Life Sciences (suppliers of
Acemannan manufactured by Carrington), where they inform me that,
since Acemannan is not registered in Europe, they cannot ship it to me.

This is, in reverse, the same problem that turned out four years ago with
Feline Interferon.

My only idea for coming out of this §H|# (sorry) is to have somebody in
the US buy Acemannan and ship it to me with UPS (everything paid in
anticipation with my money, of course).

If any of you is willing to do this for Rompi, please contact me by
private Email to discuss the details.

Thank you in advance.

Michelle,

I don't have anything recent at hand, just quite old stuff (except the
first one in the list), but definitely worth a read:

You may want to search more information using the other, less known
name of Acemannan, that is CARRISYN. You will find a lot more material.

Paolo

Re: anyone know a good list to ask about acemannan?

2007-01-20 Thread Paolo
Michelle, even if I post nearly nothing, I always keep an eye on the
list... ;) just in case... ;)

Acemannan (or Carrisyn) seems to be under test in Belgium, but on humans,
not a veterinary trial. About FDA, it is my (very) educate guess that if
they suspended manufacture of Acemannan in the USA due to a paranoia of
theirs, they could not be willing to let the stuff enter the USA from
abroad as well... Anyway, did you talk to Carrington about this, and the
possibility to get some Acemannan by showing up directly at their door
and knocking?... ;) I would do it... ;)

Re: VO interferon - taken orally

2006-09-19 Thread Paolo
You're going to waste it (and your money too), the effect (if any) would
be exactly the same as human Interferon given orally.
The problem with HUMAN interferon is that it can ONLY be given orally
because, if injected, it would easily cause neurological damages,
moreless the same way injecting VO (feline) to a human :)

Take care
Paolo

RE: VO interferon - taken orally to PAOLO

2006-09-19 Thread Paolo
Hideyo, if we talk of INJECTED interferon, Feline Interferon works on
cats exactly the same way Human Interferon works on humans...
Provided that there isn't yet an extensive database about Feline
Interferon on cats like the huge amount of information that we have
for Human Interferon (because VO is too young a product and the numbers
of the patients involved are way too different, of course...) we know
that the problems that Human Interferon COULD cause (and sometimes causes)
in humans are basically the same that Feline Interferon COULD cause in
cats, because the mechanism of action is the same (but keep present,
anyway, that to date even the mechanism of action of Human Interferon on
humans has been NOT fully understood yet...)
You cannot inject Human Interferon to a cat simply because the DNA of
humans is alot too different from the DNA of cats, and vice versa.
The principle of action of orally-given Interferon (human or feline is
just the same) in cats is that it acts basically as an immunostimulant,
i.e. it is seen by the organism as foreign matter, causing it to
raise its *general* defenses, essentially shooting at anything that
moves, including the FELV/FIV virus... and that's all. No magic.
When injected, Interferon acts more directly as an ANTIVIRAL: this is
the reason for the two very different levels of results for the two
modes for administering it, oral or injected. You can easily perceive
that a molecule that is intended to be put DIRECTLY in the bloodstream
to kill a virus without killing the host organism at the same time,
must be much, much more compatible with it than a molecule that is
intended to enter the organism with the safety net of the digestive
system in between, to act just as a dummy target for the bullets of
the immune system, where the hope is that the bullets hit the real
target (the virus) in the background of the stage where the dummy target
moves :)

Sorry for my very poor explanation.

Re: Interferon Omega - info for person wanting help

2006-03-25 Thread Paolo
Basically, the Mahl-Maynard protocol works this way: each shot contains
1 MILLION UNITS per kg weight of the cat; one shot/day for 5 CONSECUTIVE
DAYS (generally monday to friday for vet's convenience... ;) A little
reaction (vomit and/or diarrhea) is expected the week after when the
Virbagen Omega kicks in, but it may vary from case to case and is
generally self-extinguishing. It is fundamental that, once the vial of
VO is reconstituted with the supplied liquid, the solution is used that
same day, as it CANNOT BE SAFELY PRESERVED for the day after, not even in
the refrigerator.

Paolo

Re: Interferon Omega - info for person wanting help

2006-03-25 Thread Paolo
Karen, the price depends on the SIZE of the vials, there are two sizes
on the market but I can't tell anything about the price simply because
I used it long ago, one should select the best size considering the
weight and (in case) the NUMBER of cats to be treated, in order to
minimize the waste... Even the 1 million units/kg is not engraved in
stone, our Micia was given (if I remember right) around 850-900,000
units per Kg because there was another cat being trated simultaneously
and we shared the cost of the vials with the other owner, but although
the dose was a bit lower, the outcome was simply a miracle on paws...

injection or iv Paolo?

The usual subcutaneous shots.

Re: Sandra - Virbagen Omega Dosage

2006-03-10 Thread Paolo
Hi Sandra,

I do confirm the dosage given by Marlene's vet: 1 MU/kg is the same
dose that we used here in Italy (where Virbagen Omega is commonly
found at any vet pharmacy), with the difference that we did not need
to repeat the treatment at day 14 and 60 because Micia did great
immediately (literally thrived) right after the first cycle.

Paolo

To Nina - Virbagen Omega

2006-03-10 Thread Paolo
Nina,

given orally, Virbagen Omega would work exactly like the human interferon
that so many people on the list administer orally... considered the cost
and the difficulties to get Feline Interferon in the USA, there is simply
no reason for doing so! The protocol (1MU/kg for 5 consecutive days) was
taken from a clinical double-blind trial carried on by Mahl, Maynard
et al. It was tested under strictly controlled conditions, and it did
work. I do not mean in any way that, since Micia did great (and I mean
really G-R-E-A-T!) after a single cycle, others may not need the cycles
at days 14 and 60: that was simply my personal experience. But the dose
of 1MU/kg is absolutely right. The other thing, Nina, if you remember my
past messages about this, is that differently from human interferon,
Virbagen Omega CANNOT be stored in the refrigerator once reconstituted,
because it does not contain any preservative: it must be used immediately,
if you try to save if for the day after, you spoil it of its power.

since December, wrote her in pvt more than once with no results,
and I am a bit worried (actually more than a bit).

I was wondering if anyone here has heard of the Idexx Snap test

Even here in Italy it has a reputation of excellence...

Missing messages?!?...

2005-10-14 Thread Paolo
Hi all,
it's since last saturday (sept. 8th) that I am receiving very few
messages from the list, in comparison with the usual flow.
I was suspecting that my ISP set up some kind of anti-spam filter,
but in that case I would have received nothing at all... instead,
I received two messages yesterday, three the day before and so on.
Any idea of what's happening?

OT - Sparrow help

2005-08-16 Thread Paolo
Hi all,

I know this could sound quite bizarre but... well, two days ago I found
a little sparrow in the garden, he stayed perfectly immobile and when
tried to fly, could fly only for a very few meters. I took him to my
house (I save you the details about how to segregate my cat from the
little sparrow...) He's not that small, just a bit smaller than an adult
sparrow, with the light down [underfur feathers] typical of the baby
birds half gone already.

The problem is that he doesn't eat nothing solid, no bread, no rice,
and no meat of course (ham, finely minced meat). He only wanted water+
sugar I understand it gives carbohydrate and avoid dehydration,
but it's definitely not good on the long term because sparrows are
carnivores, they eat insects... he's totally lacking any protein input.

It sounds odd, but all the offices of the italian bird protection
association are closed for holiday!!!

I need advice about how to give proteins to him, and I need it
urgently!!!

  Thank you to everybody

Paolo

To The List: Threads

2005-05-06 Thread Paolo
Hi all,

I would like to ask to all of you to pay attention in NOT carrying on
threads that refer to recently passed away furbabies, like for example
Re: Kyle, how's Brissle tonight? for obvious reasons with respect
to their humans...

Thank you very much for understanding.
