It has actually woken me up in the middle of the night. It's really bad because he doesn't cover so as soon as I get the first whiff of it I drop everything and go running to find which litterbox he used and cover it immediately. Even if I'm eating I put everything down and go take care of it. It's not like I could eat anymore anyway! Yuck. Lots of times in the middle of winter I have my patio door wide open to get the smell out. He's always had runny poop too. Think it's cause of the FIV? I heard that it can have that effect on them. But then I wondered if it's something else. Do any of you guys have FIV + cats that almost always have runny poops? “I am not interested to know whether vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn’t….the pain which it inflicts upon unconsenting animals is the basis of my enmity toward it, and it is to me sufficient justification of the enmity without looking further.” – Mark Twain > Date: Fri, 8 Jul 2011 19:36:48 -0400 > From: at...@optonline.net > To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org > Subject: Re: [Felvtalk] Clumping litter = > > We have an almost 19 yr old cat - I swear, I should market the smell of her > poop: It could raise the dead! [Felvtalk] Renee'
I have a gray/white cat we (SunsetFelines) rescued behind a used car lot. She's 10-12 months old, leukemia positive and living a crate for a good while now. Renee's permanent home fell through the day I was to deliver her. She's well mannered and very sweet. She's had all her vet care. She would be good for someone that already has a leukemia positive cat or for someone with vaccinated cats. I live in SC and would be willing to drive her to surrounding states or fly Renee' to you. I know this is a long shot but I feel sorry for her in the crate and have way too many cats myself. My e-mail address is lexington...@yahoo.com. I am soo sorry. From: LauraM To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Tuesday, June 23, 2009 7:09:14 PM Subject: Re: [Felvtalk] OT- Venting I want to vent, too! I've had a bad, bad day! I work at a county shelter and we have just about had it with people. A woman called today and told me that she was getting ready to call Channel 2 news about us, because we were so very rude. Why was she ticked off? Because she surrendered her dog 2 weeks ago - she and her husband "couldn't tolerate" the dog's destructive behavior - and we were not "doing enough" to get her dog adopted. U..you weren't willing to spend any time and effort whatsoever on your dog, so why would anyone else? They decided to just reclaim the dog today, since they didn't want her to be euthanized. My colleague who handled the reclaim very nicely questioned the husband about his plans for the dog. Would they work with her, train her, try to find her another home? After all, we didn't want the dog to be reclaimed only to be dumped on us again. Not exactly fair to the dog, is it? The husband said he was ready to start cursing out my coworker, and apparently a nasty email is in the works. And someone else dumped his dog because she had a hot spot, and he didn't want to pay a vet, and when we told him that we had a low-cost vet we could refer him to, the excuse was, "She's too wild around the kids." We try to help them, and they counter with another BS excuse. I'm sick of it! And you guys will love this one. Last week a woman surrendered 5 kittens. It seems that THREE of her cats had litters of 7 at the same time, and she needs to round up all the kittens and bring them to us, because, of course, they all roam around outside! She then proceeded to blame the neighborhood tomcats for knocking up her females, when naturally it's her irresponsibility that got her into this mess. They are planning to bring us nearly 30 cats in all. We had to euthanize FIFTY cats and kittens last week, and just as many this week, and STILL people refuse to spay/neuter or keep their animals confined when they're in heat. This has to stop. It just has to stop. ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org

The problem here is that in these days I read very much on FeLV and FIV and I agree with you. My cats have always been together (except for Trudi, who is a lone wolf), they play, groom each other and they eat together even if they have one bowl each :-) They go out and I live in the country, so there are surely many stray cats and many owners who don't bother to test their cats! What am I supposed to do? I don't want to keep them inside because it's like a prison for them. On friday I will test the last two of them and I strongly hope they're negative, so I will continue to vaccine them and hope. My vet scared me a lot saying that FIV is very transmissible and the virus is strong and cats can catch it by grooming each other. Since I knew that it's not so, I tried to ask once again to this vet, but she keeps on saying that FIV spreads very well. I'm really surprised to hear so... I so decided to take Trudi to another vet and she immediately recognized stomatitis in her mouth (which the first one denied) and nose. She simply gave me a gel for her mouth. About the dermatitis: it can be for amoxicillin but we don't know. We decided to use, first, something against fleas and then wait and see. If the situation does not change, we will try with a local gel. Has anyone had experience with dermatitis? For Trudi it's the first time, and that's why I think it was the amoxicillin. If you want to see picture of my 4 babies, I have a blog. It's written in "cattish" so you cannot understand, but you can see pictures. It's www.trumiro.com Hi all! Stef Passa a Yahoo! Mail. They will usually eat it voluntarily, but if not, you can load it into a 3cc syringe and put it in their mouth. We are desperately looking for Houdini, a rescued gsd mix who got lost on Wed. 6/4/08. Below is her posting—if anyone has any suggestions on who we might contact to help look for her—she bolted in an area full of woods and may be hiding in there... This little one has been through so much and now I know she’s just hiding, so scared... Houdini is a spayed German Shepherd Mix with dark fur and tan highlights. She was rescued from a bad situation and may be afraid of people. She is very gentle but very shy. She may have a harness on and a trailing lead. She bolted when she got scared by a truck backfire. Lost between Old Farm & Summer Meadow, Durham 27704 on Wednesday afternoon, June 4,2008. PLEASE keep an eye out for her. Wonderful people from all over the country helped save Houdini and Morgan (her very best doggy friend). She just finished her heartworm treatment and has an adoptive home waiting for her. She does not know the area and may have trouble finding her way home. Houdini is microchipped. If you even think you see her, call Julius Bartell 919-698-8299 or 620-9898 immediately or e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] . If she is hurt, you can bring her to her vet, Durham Animal Hospital, 4306 N. Roxbury Rd, Durham or to any vet for emergency treatment. Kenzie...I am so glad to hear your good news! As for the future, think positive thoughts! In July, new to my kitty care, I took in a kitten they thought needed feeding but turned out he was very sick and near death when I got him. Worm infested and dehydrated and cold to the touch, I took him to the vet who thought I was crazy because he was so near death but we wormed him and gave him fluids- The next day was a huge turn around and the weeks and months that followed even more so. We did go through a bout of ringworm but the girls never got it just him. In August, they got their vet work done before working on new homes for them and all three came back FELV positive. I was devastated but ignored the advice of euthanasia and kept them for myself. We ordered Mega C Plus and another supplement and began that. They had a life and were healthy and happy! In late September Frankie, the male, had another bout w/ vomiting and weight loss, the girls never had it. We separated him and went through weeks of antibiotic and he eventually began eating and turn around and rejoined the house. He didn't play as often, just sat quietly but he was eating drinking and using the litter box. NO fevers or any other signs of illness except his quietness. In October, things gradually went down hill for Frankie and we put him down in November. I truely believe Frankie was the carrier giving the girls the exposure. The girls were still happy and healthy. I volunteer for rescue and as in the previous emails, my spare room has been used for extras w/out homes. As you know, we had that light positive and the mom and brother weren't and they have been separate from my girls. Yesterday, we retested the rescue, Jill, and my girls Maggie and MitzyTHEY ARE ALL NEGATIVE!! The vet asked lots of questions because they are unfamiliar w/ FELV and don't usually actively treat it. We are so happy for this. Jill gets to go to her new home and my girls get to celebrate their first birthday in May. We are aware that this result can turn around under times of stress and age but for now we are celebrating!Kenzie KanneARC Volunteer (712)830-9518www.myspace.com/animalrescueofcarrollanimalrescueofcarroll.org _ Going green? Re: Felvtalk Digest, Vol 39, Issue 8
Sharyl...I've worked with 3 colonies. From what I"ve seen over the years, the rest of the cats could possibly be negative. When you take these cats in, just tell vet you want them tested for FELV. That's something they suggest every time I take one in that's been outside. Finding homes for positive ferals might take a little longer but it is possible. I wish you luck! http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/04.gif";>Paula Howell - Original Message From: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Friday, April 4, 2008 12:00:02 PM Subject: Felvtalk Digest, Vol 39, Issue 8 Send Felvtalk mailing list submissions to felvtalk@felineleukemia.org To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://mail.felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can reach the person managing the list at [EMAIL PROTECTED] When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of Felvtalk digest..." So far it looks like the best I'm going to be able to do on the neutering is $100. There is a chance the Tidewater SPCA Neuter Scooter will come over to the Eastern Shore and I could save $25. I can afford to care for the 2 I have rescued. I'll have to work on colony one cat at a time as my budget allows. I am trying to recruit local sponsors to help with the cost. Local SPCA doesn't believe in TNR for ferals. I just don't want to have to tell the vet anything when I bring in a colony kitty. Would be nice if you could find a low-cost spay neuter clinic, or a free service, to help fund the neutering. RE your question about telling the vet, I don't know. If 2 are positive, still doesn't mean all the others are, although of course there's a chance. Any vet should be aware that if the kitty hasn't been tested, there's a potential for FELV or FIV. Neutering is the key to preventing the spread of this, as I understand. Least my take on it. Hope you find a good option for low cost or free neutering. On their 1st vet visit both tested FeLV+. I will have both retested the end of April to see if they are still positive. I have them quarantined in my garage. They are eating Iams canned kitten food supplemented with a Super B Complex, Lactoferrin and DMG. So far they are responding well and seem very healthy. Both have had their kitten shots and been wormed. If they stay positive I will either find a forever home for them or build an enclosure onto the garage for them. I have 2 indoor kitties and one has CRF so am concerned about bringing them into the house. My questions concern the rest of the colony which includes at least 4 adults. I can not take all of them in. My plan had been to TNR the colony (trap/neuter/release). The vet is recommending euthanizing the entire colony if thes
