Re: TeeCee's Prognosis from the specialist
I think it sounds great. The main thing is to get the cat to eat SOMETHING. The good thing about the liver shake is that it's very nutritious. I have used it with a sick cat before and she was not anemic, just going downhill fast. Also, since A/D is recommended for cats in this situation I think the substitution would work well. The only thing is that I think 'raw' liver is supposed to have some nutrients that are lost during the cooking process, so I would think it would be somewhat better. However, whatever the cat will eat is best of all. I think either version would give more nutrition than just baby food, fancy feast, tuna, etc if the cat will eat it. tTad Burnett <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: I made a modified liver shake with Hills A/D which has liver and V-8...My kitty that had stopped eating did eat that all by herself...Any thoughts as to how it compares...Its much easier to make... RE: TeeCee's Prognosis from the specialist
Title: Message Stephanie, I'm so sorry to hear about TeeCee and all the tribulations he's enduring. My Levi had mouth ulcers (Iand anemia), and the only thing he would eat (and eventually he stopped eating that too) was sour cream (thanks again Michelle for that suggestion). I didn't know at that point that he had ulcers, but it later made sense later that he liked the sour cream as the coolness and smooth texture possibly soothed his mouth. Levi was feral, so I was unable to give him medication routinely. I hope what TeeCee's medication helps give him some relief. I know what you're going through and I'm glad TeeCee has such a wonderful "mom" looking after him. Much love and many hugs to you both. Liver shake does not help anemia unless it is iron deficiency anemia, which is rare and is probably not what TeeCee has. It's good to use because they will sometimes eat it when they will not eat anything else, and it is nutritious. Re: TeeCee's Prognosis from the specialist
If it is Stage V lymphoma there are only 2 things that could possibly help him-- chemotherapy and steroids. The combination gave Simon 2 months, most of which were good, and probably would have given him more if he had not developed an autoimmune reaction to the cancer. He had Stage V lymphoma as well. They started him on a shot of dexamethasone (steroid) and Elspar, the first of the chemo drugs, and he started improving immediately. If you do not want to try chemo, I would absolutely do the steroids anyway. A shot of dexamethasone and a shot of depomedrol. They shrink lymphoma, help with mouth ulcers, help with certain kinds of anemia, increase appetite, perk them up, and generally make them feel better. It was these steroids that pulled Simon out of his first slide toward death when everyone thought he was almost gone. I would do a shot of dex and a shot of depo today, then another shot of dex tomorrow. I personally would also try the Elspar, which only kills lymphoma and does not have other side effects or depress white blood cell count at all, and see if it helps him. It does not sound to me like there is any way to keep him here long term, but the treatments I just suggested could give him a few weeks or months with good quality of life if they work. (If the Elspar worked, you would need to go on to the next chemo drug, probably, to hold the effects). Michelle
