Ouch. I can buy 140 250-mg tablets for about the same price. I dissolve in a
tiny bit of water and mix in pancake syrup to make it more palatable, then grab
a 1 cc syringe and go find the cat to be medicated.

I haven't had the best of luck with compounding pharmacies. The medicine
never tastes good enough to remove all trauma from the process. I've found
that I might as well compound it myself at home.

I have found that they like Zithromax much better when compounded with
triple fish rather than cherry. I'm not sure Zithro even comes in tablet
form.

I want it so I can rub it into his ear, though. This cat is not going to be
cooperative with long term pilling on a daily basis.

I buy most basic meds through www.1drugstore-online.com (without a
prescription) and, if it is foul tasting like zithromax or metronidazole, do my
own compounding at home. Those two seem better suited to pancake syrup or
maple syrup than anything fishy. Fish flavoring would just make it worse I
think. The flavor of the medicine seems better overcome by a very sweet taste,
though the aftertaste is still pretty nasty. (Yes, I do taste this crap before
I inflict it on the cats. I stick my pinky in and touch it to my tongue, then
usually rinse my mouth real fast.)

2007-01-31 Thread Nina
Just a note about compounding and flavoring... I read somewhere that
instead of, or in conjunction with, fish flavorings, to use banana
flavor in the compound to cut bitterness. I would never have believed
it, but like Susan, I taste every horrid med that I give my kids too.
The banana did make a difference. I've added pure banana flavoring to
liquid meds in a pinch. I like Susan's idea about the maple syrup too.
I'm going to try that with the banana next time!

Oh and Susan btw I'm so grateful for your posting this website. I think
I saw it on the AC list the first time. I still feel kind of naughty,
or like if I use it too much they'll take it away, but it's such a
pleasure to be able to get the meds I know my kids need without having
to go through a vet for them.

I grind up the lysine pills and just put them in baby food. No one
seems to object at all. I can't taste them either. I wonder if the
paste you are using has a flavor? Or maybe she hates the maple syrup,
it's not surprising that she'd wouldn't care for it. Cat's aren't big
on sweet things. I think the maple is a good thing to try, but only if
the med I'm mixing it with tastes so much worse on it's own.

Hi Kelley,

I use Pet Health Pharmacy in Arizona.
https://www.pethealthpharmacy.com/index.html

They are great. And it's VERY easy to do refills with
them. I order a month's worth of transdermal
methimazole for my hyperT kitty, and it's 12.90, plus
a flat $4.50 sh. So $17.40 for the month. That used
to be the cost for two months until we had to double
her dose. They have very reasonable pricing and are
very personable/helpful when I call.

I haven't been quoted a price yet. I don't even know which sites to go to to
get a price quoted:).

  I am in Texas.

  Thanks,

Is it possible to do this? Does anyone have any urls, or experience with it?
Is it significantly cheaper? I have a kitty who is going on Elavil and I
think it would be easier on both of us if it was compoiunded.

Thanks,
