Re: [Felvtalk] Mega C Plus: is it worth it?
Marta, I've tried the Mega C pls with several of my FeLV+ and it didn't stop the progress of the disease. Mine were born positive and odds of kittens throwing off the virus isn't good. Many members with adult cats have had better luck. Also the odds of an adult cat throwing off the virus is better. Mega C Plus won't hurt either cat. At this stage it sure wouldn't hurt to try it. It does have to be given continously to be effective. A good diet and low stress are very important for these two kitties. You will want to have your other 2 vaccinated. You will want to have annual check ups with your 2 postive kitties. Also get them to the vet at any sign of a problem. Positive kitties can be treated for the normal health issues but you do eed to stay on top of it. MC recently posted this link which you may find helpful. http://www.catvets.com/professionals/guidelines/publications/index.aspx?ID=323 Sharyl --- On Sun, 8/1/10, Marta Fernandes wrote: > From: Marta Fernandes > Subject: [Felvtalk] Mega C Plus: is it worth it? > To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org > Date: Sunday, August 1, 2010, 7:39 AM > > > > > Hi, > > > I found out this week that two of my four cats are FelV > positive (ELISA test only), one's 3 years old, the other's > 15 months old. Re: [Felvtalk] Mega C Plus: is it worth it?
I have used Mega C for healthy and sick cats, mixed with Nickers Biotin - never caused any problems. I had my first group of FIV+ cats at the time - they were not in good health. Lately, I've just been mixing regular Vitamin C in crystal form into the biotin, and then into all their food. [Felvtalk] Mega C Plus: is it worth it?
Hi, I found out this week that two of my four cats are FelV positive (ELISA test only), one's 3 years old, the other's 15 months old. I don't really know who brought the disease into the house which means my eldest cat (Neko) might have been infected 3 years ago, but it could also be that he was infected 13 months ago when I brought home Kiba, the other FelV +. Despite being FelV+ they're both extremely healthy (all of my cats are apparently very healthy), but who knows when that will change. I want to do whatever I can to help them and while researching the disease I came across information on Mega C Plus. I have to say I'm a bit skeptical. Is it really as good as advertised? Even if it isn't, is it beneficial? Will it cause my cats any harm? I'd appreciate it if anybody could give me some information about this product. I'd also like to know if there's any chance my cats might still fight off the infection. Could it still happen even if they've been infected for a year or more? Thank you. I've used Mega C Plus from Dr. Belfield. I like using Vitamin C for various things. Never used it systematically for FELV, but I wanted to get a vita C that was formulated for cats, not humans. I'm not really sure that I've seen benefits. The thing is, Ember is relatively healthy for being FeLV+. I'm hoping that some of the supposed antiviral properties of the vitamin C and selenium will help to lower her viral load. Dr. Belfield claims to have reversed some positive cats to negative with Mega C Plus, but I don't think that this is anything to be counted on. Rather, as Cassandra said, it seems to be a well-rounded and inexpensive supplement to add to cat food. I'm counting on it for its supportive qualities. Ember also gets Transfer Factor Plus Advanced and Liquid DMG, and I do think I've seen that those two supplements have helped to increase wbc and rbc counts. Re: Mega C Plus?
I am using Mega C Plus. I need to give my Tomi vitamin C anyway, and at least this stuff doesn't taste horrible like the terribly acidic stuff the vet gave me. Also the Mega C plus has iron, and lots of other vitamins/minerals in it, so I don't need to give Tomi an extra vitamin supplement as well. Plus its reasonably priced. As to whether its helping him or not, that's difficult to say, as i'm giving him a number of different things right now. The mega C plus is supposed to take a long period of time to boost the immune system as well, its not an immediate effect. Re: I treated my FeLV+ with Mega C Plus and he's now negative
The Belfield formula is oriented towards cats and dogs I think. Don't think he has a human formula, but maybe I just am not aware of it. Thanks for your story - it's wonderful and inspiring! So glad to hear that. I'm now inspired to try it - I've used it for URI, but never persistently for FELV cats. She made an appointment and then cancelled it because she "didn't have the money." That was it - no concern for my 5 healthy cats. When she had Ellie spayed, I asked her to have her tested at that time. When I asked if she'd had her tested, she said, "Oh yes, she's negative and they gave her a clean bill of health." When she moved out on me, I asked her to leave Ellie because Oreo and I had gotten so attached to her. I called her vet and was told she hadn't been tested. I was livid and scared. Ellie tested positive. I had my other 5 tested and to my horror, Oreo tested positive, a light positive; the other 4 were negative. I was devastated. I kept him separated from the others, had him on Mega C Plus for 3 weeks, then had him re-tested and he was negative. In the meantime, they all got upper respiratory infections except for Ellie. The vet said Ellie probably brought it in and had already dealt with it before moving in. Oreo was the only one who didn't have it as bad as the others. I attribute it to the Mega C Plus. Gloria, Is your Belfield's Vitamin C for human consumption or is it the Mega C Plus for cats, dogs and equine? I got Oreo as a stray. I trapped him behind the Dumpster at Kentucky Fried Chicken. What a joy he is in my life. He drags a rubber dog bone around the house and I'll find it in my bed and in his water dish. He is so happy and full of life and so intrigued with everything. I think God must have known I couldn't handle losing him to FeLV. He is truly my soulmate. My ex-roommate brought Ellie in. I said she could bring her kitten with her when she moved in. She said she'd had her tested for disease. When I moved in, I found out she hadn't. I kept begging her to get her tested. What a nightmare my roommate was. She also almost burned down my house. That's it for roommates for a while. Hi Kathi. Thank you SO MUCH! Re: I treated my FeLV+ with Mega C Plus and he's now negative
depending upon when the ifa is performed, a cat can test positive on it and STILL be negative later on--as with the snap test, it can take a number of months before the kitty processes the virus out of its system to the point where it tests negative. at one point, the merck manual referenced research that showed that there were cases where the IFA stayed positive for up to seven months before it came back negative--however, that's not mentioned in the current version...
