I set channels 1-16 to the internal Finale synth, and 17-32 to another
software synth. I put a scale in alternating s

Ah! Now I understand. Okay, if your interest is basically Finale playback
and good demos, then it seems (from what I've heard on the GPO site) that

Johannes,
For ease of use and integration with Finale, it's really hard to beat
GPO. It might not be ideal, but it is a *huge* improvement over
Finale's default sound font, and you will have much more realism when
it comes to things like mutes, bow direction, slurs, trills, tremolos,
etc. A
Dennis,
we are having a slight misunderstanding here. I am not complaining at
all about GPO, since I don't own it. I am wondering whether there are
alternatives to spending the money on GPO _before_ I buy it. I am sure
the GPO violins leave very little to be desired.

Very interesting, but far too complicated for my needs. All I need is
one soundfont with string sounds that sound like strings and aren't as
dreadfully out of tune as the one that comes with Finale.
Even if Mac users are pointed to the Hammersound site, as far as I know
there is no way to deco

Sounds impressive!
Now, here is my problem: I am on a Mac. Therefor I have no means to open
soundfonts compressed in the V1 format of sfArk (V2 is fine).
Furthermore there is to my knowledge no tool on the Mac to open a
soundfont and replace certain patches, nor is it possible to use several

Jim,
It isn't a single soundfont. There are about 30 different individual
soundfonts in that rendering ... as I said, I mix & mat

Thanks.
I do know about the group deal, and that is the reason I am enquiring
about it now.
Unfortunately there aren't really that many string demos on the site,

Hello, Johannes...
I am a GPO user. It should meet your needs well once you learn how to control
its expressiveness with Finale.
Please go to www.garritan.com, where you will find many demos, including
strings. I am a PC user, but from what I hear/see, your Mac is powerful enough
