I have been considering upgrading Finale (still using 2009) and with the
demise of support for XP, will need to upgrade that first. Does anyone
have any comments / observations on the usability of Windows 7 versus 8
or 8.1 or if I should even jump ship, and get a new machine running MAC?

Yes David, I also think you would have to buy another installation for Windows
to install using Parallels.

I don't know about Parallells, but I'm pretty sure Fusion will create a a
virtual from your Windows hard drive, so that there is no need to buy a new
license. That said, if you are moving away from XP, you've got to buy a new
license anyway.

Windows 8 is HORRIBLE. Microsoft deserves to go out of business because
of this one. The metro user interface is horrendous. Only a complete
corporate idiot could believe that users actually want to have a cell
phone interface on their desktop.
As an operating system, 8.1 is functional,
Not that Finale has been immune to bugs and crashes on mac though; nevertheless
I've the sensation of a much stable environment after the B update.
