Subject: double-flat/double-sharp bug

Last week I reported on a bug whereby the double-flat becomes a
(graphic only) single flat when you attempt to move it vertically. I
have now observed the same behavior in the double-sharp, which becomes
a graphic single-sharp when you try to resize it.  I have tracked down
the cause of both bugs.

In both cases, the wrong Alternate Character symbol is shown in the
Accidental Settings dialog. Correcting  the symbol selection fixes the
problem.

Yeah, thanks Simon- in my blissful ignorance I assumed one postcode

Silly really- even here in Canberra (300k people) we have about 50 or
 60 codes!

I rang the Brit High Commission and they told me the same thing!

They also said send with just the address and it'll get there!

Well, surely you can set up a free account on this page:

  http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm

and look up the postal code yourself.

The US version of the same thing is here:

  http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp

and doesn't require you to register (can't imagine why the Royal Mail
requires it -- makes no sense at all).

[Finale] OT: screen rotation on new Power Mac G5's?

2005-12-06 Thread Paul Hayden
Does anyone have one of the new (October-November 2005) Power Mac
G5's with one (Dual) or two (Quad) dual-core processors? If so,
do any of the built-in Nvidia graphics cards (GeForce 6600 LE, 6600,
7800 GT, or Quadro FX 4500) support screen rotation? (These Power
Macs use the PCI Express interface.)

For older Power Macs, you could buy an ATI Radeon card with
Versavision for screen rotation. I don't know if ATI makes any
Mac-compatible PCI Express cards.

My aging Power Mac G4 (500 MHz) needs to be replaced, but I'm trying
to decide whether or not to wait until the new Intel Power Macs come
out (late 2006?).

[Finale] graphics bug in 2006

2005-12-06 Thread Ryan Beard
Hi All,

I don't know if this was known to the list, but I just
received confirmation of the bug from Brian in
MacSupport:
=
Yes. There is an issue where in Finale 2006, if you
have ever inserted a graphic, dragged it, then GONE TO
THE EDIT MENUUNDO, FROM THAT POINT FORWARD all
graphics in the document will disappear and the file
is corrupted. You would then need to copy/paste into
an entirely new document and NEVER Undo after placing
a graphic into the piece.
=
[his caps, by the way...] I insert graphics all the
time and this bug is detrimental to my productivity.
At least they have it identified and can avoid fixing
it like the other bugs. Er, I mean... Add it to the
list of things to fix in a timely fashion.

I'm not sure if the undo he mentions refers only to
undoing the graphic drag, or if it means doing any
undo ever. My graphics have only disspeared in one
instance. The graphics in the other files I have move
around and print on pages other than to the page it
was asssigned. Anyone else experience this?

Ryan

It's not a 'government service', but a public limited company whose
majority owner is the British Government.

And in any case, there's plenty of government services, from passports
to self-service photocopies in libraries, that aren't free.

It's called the Royal Mail and it's not considered a government
service?

And in any case, there's plenty of government services, from
passports to self-service photocopies in libraries, that aren't free.

My point is not actually about having to pay. It's reasonable that
for a certain volume of requests you'd be required to pay beyond that
point.

However, many free resources limit the number of times you can use
them in a day, and they don't require a logon. All they do is count
the number of requests from a particular IP address. I can tick off a
half dozen such sites. You can certainly pay for unlimited service.

But I see no reason why you should have to set up an account and
logon to look up one single postal code. That is completely
senseless, and is completely orthogonal to the question of whether
one should or should not pay for volume services.
