Playback stutters badly no matter whether Smartmusic Softsynth,

I've come across something I've never seen before.
One of the cues (originally titled Preparing to Meet the Monster and

I'm using Finale 2009 on a Mac Pro, and I've run into something puzzling. I'm
working on a score that includes Bb Bass Clarinet, which Finale defaults to the
treble clef. I want to change it bass clef, but Finale won't let me do it. In
fact, it won't let me change the clef to anything at all.

Look at the transposition for the instrument (Staff Attributes) - uncheck
Set to Clef and you'll have the clef control back.

Wish they had a demo version (perhaps with "print" and "save" disabled) so you
could try it out before spending a chunk of cash on it.

I can't figure out what's going on with this piano line from John Williams'
score to DRACULA.
It looks like it's supposed to be some sort of octuplet, but there's only six
notes on the bottom and the top notes look like they're played in unison with
the first and last notes on the bottom.
I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this. This is a sketch from one of the
EMPIRE cues by John Williams. (It’s the Mynock scene when the bat creatures are
attacking and flying all around the Falcon, if anyone’s curious.) What exactly
does the highlighted notation mean? I'm not sure what
