Henry,

The problem for some of us is that our service providers (Comcast in my
case) are blocking messages from SHSU so we never receive bounce
messages. We see no messages on a busy list, feel deprived (in my case)
and then we contact you. An IT person from SHSU needs to receive the
bounce messages and then contact the service provider to resolve the problem.

Thanks for taking the time to make this list possible.

Leigh,

When I was looking into my bounces, I read some text on the Comcast
site that claimed that they did not screen or block messages (unless
set up by a user). Now that's just a claim, and I may have
misinterpreted, but I'm interested in why you think it's the case. Is
that an assumption, or did you get some clarification about how the
Comcast system works from someone? I entered a live chat with a
service technician, and they didn't volunteer any information about
screening server messages or anything. I had specifically said that I
was not getting information about bounces too.

Just curious. Thanks

[Finale] Bounces and AOL

2006-08-13 Thread Henry E. Howey
Friends, we are currently within a week of the new Fall Semester. I will
review these concerns with the tech who has charge of the maillists run
from our server. Normally bounces occur when a listmember's mailbox has
been allowed to overflow from inattention. Fairly quickly our listserv
cancels the offending site and bars them from re-enroling without my
intervention.

There was expressed to me (offlist) concern about a vulnerability in the
archives. The archives are available only to list members, so I will also
inquire how they might appear in a search engine.
