In Finale 2012 (on a Mac OS 10.9.5), I want to be able to create new files by
using “Setup Wizard” in the Launch Window. I also want to be able to save
specific setting in “Document Options”, such as lyric and text block fonts,
time and key signature settings so that whenever I do open Setup
that, my friend, is what we like to call a 'template 8-)
the wizard will ask you to set up the time/key

I want to be able to open up a new project in Setup Wizard and have all of my
specific settings and libraries there every time. No matter what I do, that’s

What you’re looking for is a Document Style. Create a Finale document with all
your custom settings, give it a name you’ll recognise and save it in the
Document Styles folder. You’ll find this folder in your User Library under

I apologize, I’m just getting more and more confused. What I really need is
someone to list, one step at a time, from when I open the Finale program, what
I need to do, using exactly the terminology used in Finale. Sorry I’m not
understanding this. Not sure if you’d be willing to do this
I can’t find any of those thanks to things getting screwed up when I had to get

Try this:

Because of the problems I was having with my new computer, I had to erase my
hard drive and then re-install the system software, so there was nothing on my
hard drive. I re-installed Finale 2012 from the Make Music website, and that’s
where I am now. No document styles folder, no user library
Back up one step please…when I open up Finale, and I want to set up a new
template, what do I click on in the Launch Window? Default Document or

Important notice: there’s no point in editing Maestro Font Default.mus” since
Finale doesn’t use the settings from that file when the Setup Wizard is used!!!

I’m happy that worked!
There’s a lesson in here for many Finale users:
* Don’t bother with editing Maestro Font Default”! *
That file is no longer used by the Setup Wizard. It is only used when you
choose New Default Document from the File menu. Forget about it. Instead, edit
