Are you sure you're not confusing the light orange of unlinked items with the only slightly ghosted colour of hidden items? Print a test page (to PDF if you don't want to waste paper) and see for yourself. I have set my orange unlinked colour to be darker and more saturated and my ghost percent

I just tried it, and it worked perfectly for me. In the score, I control-clicked the page number and selected Hide. Then I did it again but with the Command key pressed as well, and selected Show. Now it shows in the score, hidden in the parts. Since the page number text block is the same for ri
