That fundamental knowledge is key to understanding a business system and to
writing an effective accounting program - you gotta know the subject first.
A lot of guys with cs degrees are so caught up in theory they can't see the

 I'm not sure that's a good criterion. I'm more interested in how well the
 code performs, how well it is documented, and how easy it is to maintain.
 Sometimes shorter code == more obscure code. Not always, of course--often
 shorter code == a more elegant solution.

 There used to be contests to see who could cram the most C code into one
 line. I have serious doubts about the value of that contest. Code should be
 readable, documented, and maintainable.

 Also, sometimes more code == faster code. Consider looping through an
 array--if you use an extra line to store the count, a for loop should run
 faster than if you use something like myArray.count as an argument in the
 for loop.

 wrapper and in browser, the positions are different (?!?) and i cant
 figure out why, this is probably very stupid, but before
 i just wanted to know how you ppl solve the centering / positioning
 problems in flash/stage

 my awesome script:

 private function positionContainer() : void {
_lastBgX = _bg.x;
_lastBgY = _bg.y;
var halfW : Number = this.width / 2;
var halfH : Number = this.height / 2;
_bg.x = 0;
_bg.y = 0;
_bg.width = stage.stageWidth;
_bg.height = stage.stageHeight;
_holder.x = (stage.stageWidth / 2) - (_holder.width / 2);
_holder.y = (stage.stageHeight / 2) - (_holder.height / 2);
 }

 _bg is scale, as it's a simple sprite filled with bitmapdata, just for
 testing, and it does what it's suppose to do,
 _holder is my content holder wher i put all my instances, movieclips and
 so on something i dont get is,
 if i have a class that generates something bigger then that _holder
 [width/height] the things starts too look strange

 I think i dont really get how that html wrapper works and what are the
 best settings for an fullscreen flash in html
 should i pass settings to the stage class? if yes then which makes sense?
 How do you ppl solve that issue?

 Thanks for your Help!

Re: [Flashcoders] amfphp 1.9 not working on web host

2008-04-22 Thread chas warn
Cool! Thanks for responding Ashvin. My little restaurant project is
working with amfphp1.2 on the remote server but I can only get version 1.9
to work locally. There is no error message - it's just not connecting to
the database on the remote server. I uploaded the 1.9 directory and I kept
the same crossdomain.xml in the root directory but I just can't get it to
kick in. In the morning, I'll check again for dumb mistakes.

You can see how I'm using amfphp on my website...
http://www.carlosinla.com/go/page5/page5.php

When I hooked this up to amfphp 1.9. it doesn't connect to the database. It
doesn't light up.

This thing will run smooth with 1.9. My other pages on my site are using
1.2  until I get this figured out.  It's 2:40 a.m. - so I better go to bed.

Salute

Charley

 Please help me on this issue.

 I just moved from amfphp 1.2 to 1.9. I can get 1.9 working locally but
 not
 on the remote web host. I think this maybe a a cross domain issue.
