[Flashcoders] RE: how many coders here actually have a degree related to computer science?

Like Kerry, I come from the world of Director (Adobe/Macromedia Director), with 15+ year's experience there. I have a degree in English but never had a problem landing a job, probably because back in the early days of the 90's, good help was hard to find, and then as I gained experience in

Daniel - have you thought about using Director? One of the few things its still useful for (kiosks / communication with external devices). OTOH the current version has so many problems and Director in general seems on its way out, so that I can't blame you for wanting to go the Flash

Living near San Francisco, at first glance I thought this thread was going to be about a protest in the South-of-Market (SOMA) neighborhood. I began to visualize angry FlashCoders taking to the streets, demanding (a better IDE?) (a return to some AS2 features?)

(or at least that's what I think the subject was) Replying late (I'm in digest mode), but somebody asked about this. A few people replied that it was possible, all you had to do was wrap the text field in a movie clip. This works for static text field, but not for dynamic text fields -- you *do*

As I described in my eMail I'm using author-time created assets. Follow the steps I described, you should see the same thing. Note: just verified that setting the alpha programmatically via AS (following setting the text of the dynamic field) instead of manually on the timeline, makes no

Ah, didn't realize this! (I'm still using CS3). Thanks for clarifying, Kenneth. I did say this before, but you can do this in Flash 10 - you do not need to embed fonts to apply alpha values to TextFields. -- Kenneth Kawamoto ___ Flashcoders mailing list

I would use midi, then. Midi capabilities are pretty much universal these days, and you'll need a lot smaller download. Plus, mp3's have a lag on startup--not bad, but it gets annoying pretty quickly. Midi won't have that problem. Except for the tiny detail that Flash doesn't do MIDI. Heh.
