Using Subclipse and SSH with Flex Builder?

Hi, my subversion server is requiring me to SSH to it,

I've installed the Subclipse Plug-in to FLEX and installed Putty, TortoiseSVN,
Plink, Pageant. and I can use TortoiseSVN to SSH to my subversion server.

Now I need to tell Subclipse where TortoisePlink.exe is, in order to SSH to my

Is there a config file for Subclipse? so that I can
tell Subclipse that my SSH program is TortoisePlink.exe?

or is there another way to SSH to my SVN server in Flex 3 Builder?

[flexcoders] Broken CSS Editor window in Flex Builder 3

2010-07-21 Thread Amy
I'm running Flex Builder 3.0.2.214193, and last night we started a new branch
of the source code. So, this morning, I deleted my existing projects and
replaced them with the new branch.

The problem I'm having is that my CSS editor window is now the size of a large
postage stamp, with scrollbars. I can see about 3 lines vertically, and maybe
4 characters horizontally at one time. Does anyone know what might have caused
this issue, and what I can do to fix it? The software that is installed on
this computer is extremely limited, so I don't have an alternate CSS editor.

Thanks!

Ok I was getting this all day today until I remebered that in FB3 I had
manually changed the eclipse vm args in eclipse.ini.

If running the plugin go to the eclipse.ini file in the folder where
eclipse.exe is located.

What I think you will see is that the FB4 installation appends some VMArgs
settings to that file that effectively override your own previous changes.

So I reverted it back, for me that means:
-Xms256m
-Xmx1024m

If running standalone your old FB3 settings will not have been carried froward
AFAIK, so then look in the eclipse-host-distro folder for the same eclipse.ini
file and add your old settings.

Once I did that there were no problems

If standalone both can coexist.

If using the plugin and you install FB4 to the same version of eclipse as FB3
then you DO need to unistall FB3.

Caught me out at first... lots of fun java class not found errors.

[flexcoders] Flex Builder won't use my changes

2010-03-21 Thread Rick Genter
I've been building an app with Flex Builder 3. All of a sudden when I run my
app using the debugger I no longer see my changes reflected. For example, I
have a class where I deleted several trace() calls and added another trace()
call, yet when I run the app I'm seeing the old trace() messages and not the
new trace() message. Furthermore, when I put a breakpoint on the new trace()
call, the debugger claims that there is no code at that breakpoint, indicating
that the code has not been recompiled.

I've tried cleaning the project, restarting Flex Builder and even deleting the
project and re-importing it from CVS, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

Check the date of the debug swf flex builder is building to make sure
they are the latest ones...if not that, I'm sure you've already tried
this but a browser cache clear is also something to try. I tend to
always use Firefox with web developer no-cache settings but whenever I
test in Safari or Chrome that stuff always happens to me.

[flexcoders] Flex Builder Out of Memory Errors

2010-03-19 Thread d9_tech
It's pretty frustrating that Flex Builder regularly crashes with Out of
Memory errors during compile and sometimes even when design view is
refreshing.

After searching for solutions and trying all sorts of memory configurations in
the Flex Builder config file, our dev team finally gave up looking for a fix,
hoping that things would get better in a patch release.

Unfortunately, they haven't. With each update of Flex Builder the out of memory
errors continue, sometimes manifesting as silent crashes where Flex Builder
just disappears. Even after we all got new Alienware computers with 12 GB of
RAM, Flex Builder still can't find enough resources for whatever it's trying to
do during compile. Today I actually got three Out of Memory error dialogs at
once, all piled on top of each other.

Can someone from the Flex team please shed light on what's going on and let us
know if there is a solution for this problem?

thanks,

Christian

is using throughout the day (I have TaskManager open all the time anyway to
kill IE instances) and when I get over a gig I restart FB.

Yeah, I get this constantly too. I have 4GB of ram, and Flexbuilder

Ive also tried everything I can find on google adjusting the memory

of memory crashes.

Our entire dev team gets this and we have a range of winXP, Macintosh,
vista, and windows 7.

Upgraded to Flash Builder 4, and no dice, still constant crashing =(

2010-02-22 Thread Tom McNeer
Hi,

First, let me apologize for the long delay in replying. Thank you, Peeyush
and Lee, for offering your help.

Lee,

In my case, the only linked libraries are pre-compiled .swcs, not projects
within the workspace. So I don't guess our problems are the same. Thank you,
though.

Peeyush,

All the linkages within each project are strictly to files within the
project, except of course for the linkage to the compiler.

As far as the possibility of some corruption in the workspace goes, you may
well be right; I just haven't had a chance to test it. I'll do so today and
report back. Thank you for your help.

I was having the build problem that you're describing. In my case, I had one
project with a separate library project linked to it and it seems that flex
builder gets confused with that kind of thing, at least in my circumstance. I
have had a couple of other projects exhibit the same behavior and as soon as I
removed the linked projects and included them in the main project (instead of
linking them) I have not had to manually perform a clean in sometime in order
to
get FB to see the new source changes for building.

Very strange.

Vista, 32-bit. Flex Builder 3 plug-in. Eclipse 3.4 Ganymede. Flex SDKs 3.4

A couple of days ago, I noticed that Flex Builder was not re-building

The only way I could force a compile was by choosing Clean - each time I

So - last night, I uninstalled Flex Builder, installed a new copy of

time I chose Build Project, it worked. But now it has stopped. I can once
again only force a compile with Clean. And the search is dead again, too.

As an aside, the Search function appears works on files other than .as or
.mxml files.

Also, prior to the emergence of this problem, nothing had really changed on
the machine other than a few Windows security updates, which I have now
removed. But the problems persist.

I just reopened Flex Builder, made a minute change to a file, and clicked
Run. It said it was building the project, but took no time to do so. So
I'm not sure it actually did. After that first attempt, once again, Build
has no effect. And the Search is dead.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Hi Nick,

Yes, it is possible. What is the goal of the automation?

If you want just a clean build done automatically, the ANT build would
be a good option.

If you want to automate Flash Builder UI, you can develop an Eclipse
plugin that would do that. Or you can use Eclipse UI automation tools
like WindowTester and create a script for that.

[flexcoders] Flex builder automation?

2010-02-11 Thread Nick Middleweek
Hello,

Is it possible to setup an automation task to do this...

   1. Open Project Properties of a Flex Library Project
   2. Deselect all items in the Classes tab
   3. Reselect all items in the Classes tab
   4. Deselect assets in the Classes tab
   5. *Reselect all but 'com' in the Assets tab*
   6. Click ok so the library gets rebuilt
   7. Run a Project Clean

Thanks,
Nick

Re: [flexcoders] Flex Builder 3 - A little to be desired [1 Attachment]

2010-02-06 Thread Clark Stevenson
I have not filed a bug yet because i dont really think im good enough to
technically describe the issue. When i went to help new bug i just got a
page saying the module is missing or deactive on jira.

The best way i can describe it in both FB3 and FB4 is that the actionscript
editor does not notify FB that a change in the editor has been made.

I dont know if i can attach images to this mailing list but the attached
screenshot shows the issue. Joint2 is invalid so i got a runtime error in
red. I then commented out the offending line and resaved it but still the
problem persists. The screenshot shows the offending line of code along with
its error AFTER i have hit save.

Note that this is a completely seperate project to my first email.

Running FB2 and FB3 under 32x never gave me any problems, and if it did, not
with enough frequency to be noticible in the 2 years i used them.
Running FB3 under VISTA Home 64x AMD 64 has this issue
Running FB4 under 7 Ultimate 64x Intel i7, i5 has this issue

It seems there is an inherited bug somewhere which effects 64x OS Windows or
architecture..

When googling this i found little so if you do experience this issue and can
let describe it well, please reply with details.

As far as im concerned even an option to tick to force a clean on save would
save alot of hassle.

Also is there any keyboard shortcut to clean?

Cheers.

Ugh i can totally appreciate your email.

I have struggled pretty much constantly over the last 2 years with all kinds
of problems.

My favorite one is the one that you describe. For no reason what so ever,
pressing save all of a sudden does not work and you need to goto Project
Clean. The first time this happened to me i lost out on a job interview
purely because no matter what i did, flex wouldnt refresh and i didnt know
about project Clean.

Another classic, is that my Project Settings dialoge on x64 systems does
not work, none of the buttons exist, you need to drag the dialogue box to
make it tiny, select a new option, and resize the dialogue box again to see
what is actually under, say, the class path or add SWC options.

Updating the flex SDK: The whole wrapper issue. This is particulaly poor
because its like Adove decided, lets make flex 3 a nightmare to update so
you run out and buy FB4

Dragging a class into your Flex Project source path is often not found. If i
drag zoo.birds.Eagle.as, it is entirely possible that Eagle wont be
available dispite it being in the correct package and folder system.

Flash player cannot be found, please install a debug version (fails at 49%
build)

And many more.

I was particulaly depressed the other day when i tried FB4 under an I5 64bit
system and ran into the whole forced clean after each build, its not
filled me with alot of confidence.

Cheers,

Clark.

 Hi all,

Just getting started with Flex and FlexBuilder and I am unimpressed with
 the FB
IDE (though flex and actionscript are nice to me) and was hoping someone
 could
help me out with a couple of annoyances.

 1. After working in the editor, I ALWAYS have to highlight the project node
 in
the Flex Navigator before Run, Debug, etc buttons work or say CTRL-F11 to
 run my
 project will work.

 2. My projects (different ones I've noticed this with) required that I
 perform a
Clean from the Project Clean menu before changes will take effect many
times. I've wasted literally hours trying to figure why my code is not
 working
correctly, until a light bulb goes off and I try the Clean option at
 which the
compiler finally links in the changes.

After working with the likes of Delphi and Visual Studio, I'm very
 disappointed
in the product if I have to in fact take these annoying steps consistently
 just
to get my projects to compile and build correctly :-)

 Thanks for suggestions.

Thanks Nick,

You are right, once I installed the 32bit versions across the board all is
well. Unfortunately, it was not so easy to get the Eclipse 32bit version as
most of the download mirrors auto populate the filie list based on my OS, so
I had to go to a 32bit Vista box just to do the download :-(.

Money well spend though with this new HW, my total build round trip used to
be 10min, now I am at 2min :-)

Have you tried deleting the .project and .actionScriptProperties files in the
project folder? How about the .settings folder?

The compiler settings are saved to the .actionScriptProperties file. It is an
XML file so you can try opening it in your favorite text editor. Check to see
if the XML is valid. Make sure that when you save it the OS or the app has not
added a hidden extension (eg. like .txt) to the file name.

[flexcoders] Flex Builder 3 - Crashes

It has happened now 4 times,

When I exit Flex Builder 3 my system crashes, screen goes black and the system

This wouldn't be a problem as I save (export) my work but the exported work
dosn't restore properly, while before I was working in the debug area it
insists on working in the release area. Which is not how I had it set up.

The only way I recover successfully is to create a new project, set up all my

Anybody have the same trouble, if so does anybody have any way to speed up the
restore or stop the crash happening?

Had this prob with another program, it was a major software conflict, something
like a windows BSOD so bad that it couldn't even do a BSOD.

Tracing this problem is a nearly impossible task for a normal user. It could be
a conflict with almost any installed software, my issue only occurred when I
had MS Office IEX (the crashing app) installed, then it only occurred when I
resized a window by clicking and dragging the lower right corner, not a side,
top, bottom, or any other corner.

Re-installing is not going to help because the conflicting software is still
installed. What may make the difference is where the conflict is occurring so
try closing the app in different ways. Assuming you're using windows, try
clicking the [X], file-close, right clicking and selecting close from the
start bar, and even using the task manager. One of these may skip the conflict
and you might be safe that way, else try a different system or uninstalling
programs you aren't using.

In the short term, export the Flex project to an archive (zip) file. It
takes only seconds. Restoring is then just a matter of importing that
archive, again only seconds. It should preserve all of your project
settings.

system restarts. When I re-run Flex Builder it shows nothing in the Flex
Navigator.

This wouldn't be a problem as I save (export) my work but the exported
work dosn't restore properly, while before I was working in the debug area
it insists on working in the release area. Which is not how I had it set up.

The only way I recover successfully is to create a new project, set up all
my php services and copy the files back, which takes ages.

Anybody have the same trouble, if so does anybody have any way to speed up
the restore or stop the crash happening?

[flexcoders] Flex builder intellisense not picking up the class/interface

2009-11-30 Thread sehrawat_raj
Hello All,

I added a library to my flex application using the following setting in config
file (that was included using -load-config option).

include-libraries append=true
library../bin/MyPvtLibrary.swc/library
/include-libraries

Using this setting my code compiles but the intellisense does not work for
interfaces/classes defined in MyPvtLibrary.swc.

If I use MyPvtLibrary in .actionScriptProperties as the following then
intellisense works.

libraryPathEntry kind=3 linkType=2 path=../bin/MyPvtLibrary.swc
useDefaultLinkType=false/

Flex builder version is 3.0.2.214193.

I don't want to make MyPvtLibrary as rsl.
Also, I need to include all definitions of MyPvtLibrary, irrespective of the
used/unused classes.

Thanks,
Rajkumar

[flexcoders] Flex Builder 3 for Linux updated

2009-11-25 Thread Tom Chiverton
An updated build for Flex Builder 3 for Linux has just been posted to Labs.
This removes the timeout at the end of this month, but doesn't do a lot else.

News from Andrew Shorten (new Senior Product Manager for Flash Builder) at
http://www.ashorten.com/2009/11/25/updated-build-of-flex-builder-for-linux-available/
 :
If you have any comments or suggestions on Flex Builder for Linux then please
drop me an email and I'll make sure we consider them as we continue to work
on our plans for Linux support.

The article quotes http://www.ashorten.com/contact/ as the way to do that.
Might I suggest everyone drops Andrew a nice polite email please ?

Hi there,

I assume you can't use the ADG since you upgraded your SDK?

If so, look here: -

It's for 3.3, but the principal is the same. I copied the libs from my
old sdk for ages, rather than downloading new.

Sorry I can't find anything else now, am mid office move!

[flexcoders] Strange issue with Flex Builder Trial - Run the flex application only on first day

2009-10-30 Thread Vincent Blanqué
Hi,

I have created Flex proyects with Flex Builder 3 Trial Version for
generating Google Maps apps. I 'Run the application'. The first day
everything works well. But later, the same mxml does not run well.
However, if I create a new project with the same mxml file, everything
is ok. Is there any protection that limit the duration of a project ? Is
it a cache issue ? I really does not understand...

Thx,

Vincent

Re: [flexcoders] Catalyst with Flex Builder

Technically, yes it is possible to open the code in Flex Builder 3. However,
code created in Catalyst is only compatible with the Flex 4.0.0 SDK, so you
will have to configure FB3 to use the Flex 4 SDK. The Adobe Open Source site
has instructions on how to do this, I believe.

[flexcoders] Accessing an XML attribute using AS3 in Flex builder 4

2009-10-04 Thread Barry Gee
Hi.

I'm having a little trouble getting the value of an attribute in an XML
string. I am trying to get the value of 'url' out of the following XML:

media:thumbnail width=66 height=49
url=http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/46491000/jpg/_46491622_mcarthur_pa.jpg

I am using a HTTPService request to get the feed as follows:

s:HTTPService id=feedStream

url=http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/uk/rss.xml;
result=feedStream_resultHandler(event) /

I am then querying the returned XML as follows:

protected function feedStream_resultHandler(e:ResultEvent):void
{
var myX:String =
e.result.rss.channel.item[0].media_thumbna...@url;
trace(myX);

//dpac = e.result.feed.entry as ArrayCollection;
dpac = e.result.rss.channel.item as ArrayCollection;

   trace(dpac[0].title); // returns the title
}

I get the following error:
