[flexcoders] Broken CSS Editor window in Flex Builder 3
I'm running Flex Builder 3.0.2.214193, and last night we started a new branch of the source code. So, this morning, I deleted my existing projects and replaced them with the new branch. Ok I was getting this all day today until I remebered that in FB3 I had manually changed the eclipse vm args in eclipse.ini. If running the plugin go to the eclipse.ini file in the folder where eclipse.exe is located. What I think you will see is that the FB4 installation appends some VMArgs settings to that file that effectively override your own previous changes. So I reverted it back, for me that means: -Xms256m -Xmx1024m If running standalone your old FB3 settings will not have been carried froward AFAIK, so then look in the eclipse-host-distro folder for the same eclipse.ini file and add your old settings. Furthermore, when I put a breakpoint on the new trace() call, the debugger claims that there is no code at that breakpoint, indicating that the code has not been recompiled. Yeah, I get this constantly too. I have 4GB of ram, and Flexbuilder never goes above 700Mb, but still get the errors constantly. Ive also tried everything I can find on google adjusting the memory settings, tried values all over the place, and nothing, constnatly out of memory crashes. Re: [flexcoders] Flex Builder build and search functions die on Vista
Hi, First, let me apologize for the long delay in replying. Thank you, Peeyush and Lee, for offering your help. Lee, In my case, the only linked libraries are pre-compiled .swcs, not projects within the workspace. So I don't guess our problems are the same. Thank you, though. Peeyush, All the linkages within each project are strictly to files within the project, except of course for the linkage to the compiler. As far as the possibility of some corruption in the workspace goes, you may well be right; I just haven't had a chance to test it. I'll do so today and report back. I just reopened Flex Builder, made a minute change to a file, and clicked Run. It said it was building the project, but took no time to do so. So I'm not sure it actually did. After that first attempt, once again, Build has no effect. And the Search is dead. Re: [flexcoders] Flex builder automation?
Hi Nick, Yes, it is possible. What is the goal of the automation? If you want just a clean build done automatically, the ANT build would be a good option. If you want to automate Flash Builder UI, you can develop an Eclipse plugin that would do that. Or you can use Eclipse UI automation tools like WindowTester and create a script for that. - Mykola On Feb 11, 2010, at 12:58 AM, Nick Middleweek wrote: Hello, Is it possible to setup an automation task to do this... • Open Project Properties of a Flex Library Project • Deselect all items in the Classes tab • Reselect all items in the Classes tab • Deselect assets in the Classes tab • Reselect all but 'com' in the Assets tab • Click ok so the library gets rebuilt • Run a Project Clean Thanks, Nick -- Flexcoders Mailing List FAQ: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/flexcoders/files/flexcodersFAQ.txt Alternative FAQ location: https://share.acrobat.com/adc/document.do?docid=942dbdc8-e469-446f-b4cf-1e62079f6847 Search Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexcoders%40yahoogroups.comYahoo! Re: [flexcoders] Flex Builder 3 - A little to be desired [1 Attachment]
I have not filed a bug yet because i dont really think im good enough to technically describe the issue. When i went to help new bug i just got a page saying the module is missing or deactive on jira. The best way i can describe it in both FB3 and FB4 is that the actionscript editor does not notify FB that a change in the editor has been made. I dont know if i can attach images to this mailing list but the attached screenshot shows the issue. Joint2 is invalid so i got a runtime error in red. I then commented out the offending line and resaved it but still the problem persists. The screenshot shows the offending line of code along with its error AFTER i have hit save. Note that this is a completely seperate project to my first email. Running FB2 and FB3 under 32x never gave me any problems, and if it did, not with enough frequency to be noticible in the 2 years i used them. Running FB3 under VISTA Home 64x AMD 64 has this issue Running FB4 under 7 Ultimate 64x Intel i7, i5 has this issue It seems there is an inherited bug somewhere which effects 64x OS Windows or architecture.. When googling this i found little so if you do experience this issue and can let describe it well, please reply with details. As far as im concerned even an option to tick to force a clean on save would save alot of hassle. Also is there any keyboard shortcut to clean? Cheers. Re: [flexcoders] Flex Builder 3 - A little to be desired
Ugh i can totally appreciate your email. I have struggled pretty much constantly over the last 2 years with all kinds of problems. My favorite one is the one that you describe. For no reason what so ever, pressing save all of a sudden does not work and you need to goto Project Clean. The first time this happened to me i lost out on a job interview purely because no matter what i did, flex wouldnt refresh and i didnt know about project Clean. Another classic, is that my Project Settings dialoge on x64 systems does not work, none of the buttons exist, you need to drag the dialogue box to make it tiny, select a new option, and resize the dialogue box again to see what is actually under, say, the class path or add SWC options. Updating the flex SDK: The whole wrapper issue. This is particulaly poor because its like Adove decided, lets make flex 3 a nightmare to update so you run out and buy FB4 Dragging a class into your Flex Project source path is often not found. If i drag zoo.birds.Eagle.as, it is entirely possible that Eagle wont be available dispite it being in the correct package and folder system. Flash player cannot be found, please install a debug version (fails at 49% build) And many more. I was particulaly depressed the other day when i tried FB4 under an I5 64bit system and ran into the whole forced clean after each build, its not filled me with alot of confidence. Cheers, Clark. Have you tried deleting the .project and .actionScriptProperties files in the project folder? How about the .settings folder? The compiler settings are saved to the .actionScriptProperties file. [flexcoders] Flex Builder 3 - Crashes
It has happened now 4 times, When I exit Flex Builder 3 my system crashes, screen goes black and the system restarts. When I re-run Flex Builder it shows nothing in the Flex Navigator. This wouldn't be a problem as I save (export) my work but the exported work dosn't restore properly, while before I was working in the debug area it insists on working in the release area. Which is not how I had it set up. The only way I recover successfully is to create a new project, set up all my php services and copy the files back, which takes ages. Anybody have the same trouble, if so does anybody have any way to speed up the restore or stop the crash happening? - Stephen
[flexcoders] Re: Flex Builder 3 - Crashes
Had this prob with another program, it was a major software conflict, something like a windows BSOD so bad that it couldn't even do a BSOD. Tracing this problem is a nearly impossible task for a normal user. It could be a conflict with almost any installed software, my issue only occurred when I had MS Office IEX (the crashing app) installed, then it only occurred when I resized a window by clicking and dragging the lower right corner, not a side, top, bottom, or any other corner. Re-installing is not going to help because the conflicting software is still installed. What may make the difference is where the conflict is occurring so try closing the app in different ways. Assuming you're using windows, try clicking the [X], file-close, right clicking and selecting close from the start bar, and even using the task manager. One of these may skip the conflict and you might be safe that way, else try a different system or uninstalling programs you aren't using. In the short term, export the Flex project to an archive (zip) file. It takes only seconds. Restoring is then just a matter of importing that archive, again only seconds. Technically, yes it is possible to open the code in Flex Builder 3. However, code created in Catalyst is only compatible with the Flex 4.0.0 SDK, so you will have to configure FB3 to use the Flex 4 SDK. I am trying to get the value of 'url' out of the following XML: media:thumbnail width=66 height=49 url=http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/46491000/jpg/_46491622_mcarthur_pa.jpg / I am using a HTTPService request to get the feed as follows: s:HTTPService id=feedStream url=http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonline_uk_edition/uk/rss.xml; result=feedStream_resultHandler(event) / I am then querying the returned XML as follows: protected function feedStream_resultHandler(e:ResultEvent):void { var myX:String = e.result.rss.channel.item[0].media_thumbna...@url; trace(myX); //dpac = e.result.feed.entry as ArrayCollection; dpac = e.result.rss.channel.item as ArrayCollection; trace(dpac[0].title); // returns the title } I get the following error: TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties. at Flex4CustomComponent/feedStream_resultHandler()[/Users/barrygee/Documents/Adobe Flash Builder Beta/Flex4CustomComponent/src/Flex4CustomComponent.mxml:38] at Flex4CustomComponent/__feedStream_result()[/Users/barrygee/Documents/Adobe Flash Builder Beta/Flex4CustomComponent/src/Flex4CustomComponent.mxml:12] at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at mx.rpc::AbstractOperation/http://www.adobe.com/2006/flex/mx/internal::dispatchRpcEvent()[E:\dev\beta1\frameworks\projects\rpc\src\mx\rpc\AbstractOperation.as:249] at mx.rpc::AbstractInvoker/http://www.adobe.com/2006/flex/mx/internal::resultHandler()[E:\dev\beta1\frameworks\projects\rpc\src\mx\rpc\AbstractInvoker.as:318] at mx.rpc::Responder/result()[E:\dev\beta1\frameworks\projects\rpc\src\mx\rpc\Responder.as:58] at mx.rpc::AsyncRequest/acknowledge()[E:\dev\beta1\frameworks\projects\rpc\src\mx\rpc\AsyncRequest.as:84] at DirectHTTPMessageResponder/completeHandler()[E:\dev\beta1\frameworks\projects\rpc\src\mx\messaging\channels\DirectHTTPChannel.as:446] at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at flash.net::URLLoader/onComplete() It looks like the attribute is'nt being found even though it does exist. All suggestions very welcome. Thanks Barry.

Re: [flexcoders] Mac OSX and Flex builder
I'm fairly certain it's Adobe Update Manager. And for those who aren't aware, the Rosetta we're talking about here is an OS X thing: http://www.apple.com/rosetta/... not Rosetta Stone Language training software. [flexcoders] Flex Builder help system
Hello, Is there a way to change Flex Builder 3 so that when I press F1 over a component, rather than the help page open within FB3, can it open up in a web browser? Thanks, Nick
RE: [flexcoders] Flex Builder help system
Sure, in the FB menu, select: -Window Preferences to open the Preferences dialog box - In the dialog box, select Help - In the Help pane, select the Use external browser checkbox - Below the checkbox, select Web Browser to pick your browser - Hit OK Stephen From: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com [mailto:flexcod...@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Nick Middleweek Sent: Monday, September 07, 2009 9:56 AM To: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Subject: [flexcoders] Flex Builder help system Hello, Is there a way to change Flex Builder 3 so that when I press F1 over a component, rather than the help page open within FB3, can it open up in a web browser?
