RE: [flexcoders] Can we move Flexcoders to a new forum??

2006-06-19 Thread Tolulope Olonade

Actually I configured mine to be sent to
my company email address.

Now we all use MS Outlook internally.

So I just created a separate folder that
all flexcoder mails get stored in and then arrange that folder by subject line
1st and then by date.

Now I dont have to go to yahoo to
get updates and all

Its makes it very very easy to trace any
post you want and grabs your attention cause message groups are branded with
the subject of the mails J

Enjoy

Flexcoders to a new forum??

Is anyone else pulling their teeth trying to find
messages they posted
several days ago? I can see it in the mail-archives no problem, but
when I go back to yahoo to post a reply to a message...it's quite the
b*tch to find. I ended up just doing a search on my username and
clicking through all the pages of results and of course it wasn't there.

Yahoo could at least have a link that says My Posts or something.
It'd also be nice if the posts were listed out like theserverside.com
(although more stable :-)

Since we're all developing in a slick technology, can't we dump tyhe
legacy forum?

Anyone else feel this way?

Cheers.

ThunderBird does this also.

I'm sure this will happen eventualy. HAAH this is one of the arguments about linear html verses a technology like Flex UI. :)

Michael, NNTP is the news group, kind of like a mailing list but you
have to use certail client to read it (ie: outlook express or forte
agaent)

Google group is actually transformed from NNTP and become what it is today.

RE: [flexcoders] Can we move Flexcoders to a new forum??

2006-06-16 Thread Daniel Tuppeny

NNTP = Usenet / News Servers

It's a really old standard for newsgroups, which most email
clients support (Outlook doesn't, but Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc. doo).
Rather than having all the messages duplicated and sent to everyones email, they
all live on a server, and you browse them in a threaded manner, much like a
message board online, but since you can choose different clients, you're not
stuck to how a particular forums interface works.

It's great for this kind of list where there's lots of
traffic, and you don't read every post. Your client can just get the headers,
and if you want to read a post (based on the subject), it'll just fetch the body
as you click through. Saves lots of traffic and makes reading much faster if
you're not reading everything!

If what

Flex" then the answer is "yes, we probably could".

And, "no
we probably won't".

Best

Is anyone else pulling their teeth trying to find messages they
postedseveral days ago? I can see it in the mail-archives no problem,
butwhen I go back to yahoo to post a reply to a message...it's quite
theb*tch to find. I ended up just doing a search on my username
andclicking through all the pages of results and of course it wasn't
there. Yahoo could at least have a link that says "My Posts" or
something. It'd also be nice if the posts were listed out like theserverside.com(although more stable
:-)Since we're all developing in a slick technology, can't we dump
tyhelegacy forum?Anyone else feel this
way?Cheers.

RE: [flexcoders] Can we move Flexcoders to a new forum??

2006-06-16 Thread Daniel Tuppeny

Yeah, Google Groups is a good example. Google pull all the
posts down (like your client would, if you decided to read them) and archive
them for searching. If this list was NNTP, you could read/post/search via Google
groups, and others could use their own clients.

Most nntp clients have powerful filtering/scripting, so you
can highlight replies to your own posts, or those from your friends (or the
likes of people from Adobe, on a list like this), so it makes prioritising your
reading very easy :-)

Michael, NNTP is the news group, kind of like a mailing list but
you have to use certail client to read it (ie: outlook express or forte
agaent)Google group is actually transformed from NNTP and become what it
is today.

It's still an awful waste of traffic if you're not reading
everything :-)

We use Exchange/Outlook, and I much prefer it to Gmail. The
threading is nice, but email isn't really designed for it. Something like NNTP
is, and generally threads better :-)
