[Flightgear-devel] Helicopter flight model

2003-03-14 Thread Erez Boym
Hi,

Do we have a helicopter FDM ?

I have built a grate CH53D helicopter and really like
to fly it as a helicopter and not as a ufo ;-)

Thanks

[Flightgear-devel] Re: 3DS Models in Flightgear

2003-03-04 Thread Erez Boym
Hi,

I've used 3ds files for FlightGear models in both
Linux and M$ 2K (A CH53D model).

Under Linux the support of PLib seams better then
under M$ 2K, but even under Linux I have encountered
several PLib issues:
* Objects Names are not always recognized.
* Some textures are not loaded.

Other then the above Linux supporter 3ds gritty well.

Under M$ 2K:
* All of the above
* Objects loaded with STATIC OBJECT do not recognize
the altitude parameters if they are in 3ds format.

I haven't been able to find documentation on what is
or is not supported in PLib I just tried several
models and found out.

Hi all,

The documentation on creating models for Flightgear
doesn't say
anything
about .3DS files. Is it possible to load .3DS files
for Flightgear ?
If
yes, where can I find information on the format of the
files, if I may
use
materials etc ...

Kind Regards

[Flightgear-devel] Re: TerraGear Help

2003-02-28 Thread Erez Boym
Hi, Curtis and all

OK, Upgrading automake to v1.6 as you have recommended
did solve the autogen.sh script problem, TerraGear did
start to compile.

Now it seams that it has another issue, this time in
the TerraGear code itself.

In both the CVS code and the 0.0.5 code the build
process brakes down with the following error:
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgenpolyclip

Running the compilation through Kdevelop it stops with
the error:
---
hgt.cxx: In method `bool TGHgt::open (const SGPath
)':
hgt.cxx:95: no matching function for call to
`SGPath::file ()'
---

in line 95 of the file hgt.cxx :
---
hgt.cxx: In method `bool TGHgt::open (const SGPath
)':
hgt.cxx:95: no matching function for call to
`SGPath::file ()'
---

any hints on who to solve this one ?

I guess it's something related to SimGear and I do
have SimGear Installed.

I have seen in the TerraGear site that SimGear 0.3.0
is needed, currently I have installed 0.3.1 is that
causing that problem ?

And one final Q, the TerraGear readme say that I need
to set FG_ROOT_LIB, I didn't find a LIB directory in
FlightGear, what is that ?

Thanks

Erez

[Flightgear-devel] TerraGear help

2003-02-25 Thread Erez Boym
Hi,

Sorry to bother you again with my TerraGear problems.
It seams that the TerraGear team has vanished and
there is no way of getting help on their mailing list.

Since TerraGear is the only tool I have found that
will help me import DTED in to FlightGear I
desperately need to be able to compile it and use it
to build scenery.

So if you can give me a hint on who to solve the
following problem ..

I have downloaded the CVS files of TerraGear. The
instructions say that I need to run the ./autogen.sh
script then ./configure make but the ./autogen.sh
script produce the following message :
/usr/share/automake-1.5/am/depend2.am: AMDEP does not
appear in AM_CONDITIONAL
it's not stopping it just finish announcing that I can
run ./configure but when I get to the make stage make
is running an unfinished automake script and fails
with Missing separator. The failing file does not
have a make syntax it looks like an automake that
didn't run correctly.

Can you hint on where to start looking for the problem
?

Do you know of another tool that will help me compile
DTED / DEM data in to scenery ?

Or do you know if I can find TerraGear RPMS any ware ?

Thanks

Erez

Re: [Flightgear-devel] TerraGear help

2003-02-25 Thread Erez Boym
Curtis,

Thanks for your replay.

I don't think the terragear developers have vanished,
it's just that probably none of us know
quite what to make of your problem.

Well, what I mean is that I’m on the Terragear-devel
list, the first message I received in the 3 weeks I’m
on that list was today announcing TerraGear 0.0.5.
Maybe there is a problem with my subscription …..

This *sounds* like you have a broken automake /
autoconf installation, or are using too old or too
new versions of one or more of the auto tools.
Unfortunately, the auto tools developers make changes

that are neither forwards or backwards compatible so
it's impossible to write a complex configure script
that support all the auto tool versions
simultaneously.

Can you please list the versions I need to compile
TerraGear ?

I have just upgraded AutoMake to V1.5 as demanded by
the TerraGear autogen.sh but maybe I need to upgrade /
downgrade other tools too.

Thanks

Erez

Re: [Flightgear-devel] (offtopic) Terrain

2003-02-22 Thread Erez Boym
Hi,

ulator which among other things demonstrate an IFR
Primary display based on a digital 3D map. basically
instead of displaying a ADI/HSI display we give a 3D
world as a background and additional flight and
navigation symbology.

We also have a 3D tactical display which is an
expansion of what you called Terrain-aided navigation.
It's a 3D map
overplayed by tactical information like routs,
avoidance zones, ILS cones, TCAS display etc.

I'm currently trying to find ways to utilize
FlightGear for that project.

As for DTED data, I suppose that u need a model of our
homeland, and that you need to run it in FlightGear.

For FlightGear you can download scenery from :
http://www.flightgear.org/Downloads/world-scenery.html

It's a shitty level 0 data so 4 example the Carmel
looks like a small bup in the terrain but it's the
easyest way to go.

You can also download from:
http://edcdaac.usgs.gov/gtopo30/gtopo30.html

It's also level 0 data but ...

I didn't find a FREE Level 1 data yet.

There is a Level 1 data from the Ofeck company but
they want money for that data. I have some of that
data at work but since it's propriety data I can't
just give it 2 you.

I'm trying to compile FlightGear scenery from that
data but didn't succeed yet. Currentlly stuck on
TerraGear compilation issues.

Have fun

Erez

elevation data
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi There,

Does anybody know where I can find a sampled heightmap
(of any place on earth, at any resolution) ?

I need to submit a project about terrain-aided
navigation,
and I need to run some simulations (and somehow, I
feel that
using synthetic-noise maps is much like cheating).

A brief search on the web lead me to nowhere (I didn't
look at the right places, I suppose), except for some
3DS
meshes (which are either synthetic, or not equally
distributed
as a grid, or broken links :) ).

Thanks a million,
Elady.

[Flightgear-devel] Re: Creating new scenery

2003-02-19 Thread Erez Boym
Hi,

OK, changing the fgstream.hxx to sgstream.hxx seams to
work for that problem but doing that started an
avalanche of undefined symbols. I have started to
change these from FG to SG but it seams that there are
about a million of them.

So I have took the CVS advice.

The CVS readme also wrote to set the FG_ROOT,
FG_ROOT_SRC, and FG_ROOT_LIB environment variables and
I guess that FG_ROOT is where my Flight Gear is
installed, FG_ROOT_SRC is where the Flight Gear
source is placed but what is FG_ROOT_LIB ?

Another thing, TerraGear demanded automake 1.5 but
after upgrading to 1.5 the autogen script result in an
error :
Running autoheader
/usr/bin/m4: configure.in: No such file or directory
ERROR: autoheader didn't create
simgear/simgear_config.h.in!

And Kdevekop is *.m4 files when I try to compile or
create new projects.

What I did to install 1.5 is to install the rpm then
ln -s the 1.5 to /usr/bin/automake the same way it was
linked when 1.4 was installed.

Should I upgrade other components ?

Thanks

Erez

[Flightgear-devel] Creating new scenery

2003-02-18 Thread Erez Boym
Hi,

It's more a TerraGear question but it seams that the
TerraGear list is dead so I'm trying my luck here,
hoping some one can help me.

I'm compiling TerraGear and for some reason, it keeps
complaining about simgear/misc/fgstream.hxx. I have
all the latest files from FlightGear, SimGear etc. and
there is no such file.

Any suggestions ?

I have :
Flight gear ver - 0.9.1
SimGear - 0.3.1
gpc231
plib-1.6.0

Anyone have experience with importing DTED level 1
into FlightGear ?

Thanks

Hi,

Did anyone start to document these properties in
another way, or do we have no documentation about
these xml properties ?

Erez

We had a discussion about this subject a few weeks
back and came to the
conclusion that automatic generation of the property
lists probably
won't give the desired result.

If you insist on using this approach, you can find
the xml parser in
the
simgear/xml directory of SimGear (esp. easyxml.?xx).

[Flightgear-devel] Re: xml property documentation

2003-02-10 Thread Erez Boym
HI,

Well, I'm new to FlightGear tweaking, but I find it
strange that to use flight gear (Add objects, add
aircrafts etc.) you have to search the source files,
just to find these xml properties that will enable me
to do that work.

In my inexpert eyes it's something we must maintain
otherwise we limit FlightGear usage to code reader
experts that can tweak the source files. Normal users
that only want to add things to flight gear would be
left out or bug mailing lists for these properties.
