you can add "-L/usr/local/lib" to your configure line

You may recall me (and other Cygwin users) having problems compiling Metakit
for some time. These were the issues: (i) I had to specify --with-tcl=no (no
big deal), (ii) I had to eleminate 30 lines of code from strings.cpp which
would not compile (ugly).

The problem isn't with Metakit
My computer crashed totally yesterday, and I sent it to be replaced (luckily
it was still under warranty). I either think it's RAM or the slot on the
motherboard for the RAM.

I unpacked the archive to my home directory and did the standard make and
make install. What kind of errors are you seeing?
