[Flightgear-devel] --lon= --lat= --altitude= --heading= --pitch= --roll=
Whoever might care, I'd like to report about my current findings with using the command line switches --pitch= and --roll= - which don't have any effect on my setup (current CVS, running on Linux). To be precise, this command line: # ~ fgfs --lon=-122.050490 --lat=37.417342 --altitude=755 --heading=251 --pitch=-23 --geometry=1152x870 --timeofday=noon --aircraft=ufo should provide a nice view onto a scene at KNUQ. All of the above switches work as expected, just --pitch= and --roll= don't. Hello @all, Erik Hofman wrote: Or maybe it's good enough to replace the texutures with plain white images for now? I've done this until an agreement is reached. Because otherwise one could just checkout an older version of the textures to get them thus we would be distributing them, which is explicitly not allowed by the CG textures license. Stefan In the moment eactly this seems to be right,(But I'm sure it is not quite right) and exactly what I want. The problem was for the next release which is fixed for now. Maybe this can be done by removing the rights to read from that directory at the CVS server side (or something)? It would be a pitty to remove everything and add it back later. I'm already in contact with the author of CGtextures.com and that's what he wrote: Quote by Marcel Vijfwinkel: Hello Heiko, Because a license does not explicitly say it cannot be used for Open Source does not mean it's fine to release the materials under an Open Source. The licenses have to be compatible in order to be allowed to do that. In CGTextures the license it says: It is not permitted to: - Sell or distribute any of these textures in an unmodified form, or where the derived product you are selling or distributing is a Texture or a collection of Textures. Most Open Source licenses allow unlimited redistribution of the materials, so the Open Source licenses are not compatible with this clause in the CGTextures license. I can understand it would be nice for your if the textures could be released under Open Source, but unfortunately it's impossible to run a business if the textures would be Open Source licensed. If I would allow the textures to be released under Open Source, anybody could upload them to Bittorrent legally. And if people could download them without being restricted by a quota they wouldn't buy memberships. Without the membership sales, I can not work on the website fulltime and I cannot afford the webhosting or camera equipment to make these textures. Allowing the release under Open Source is really not any benifit for my business (and don't get this wrong, even though I give away textures for free CGTextures is a business). One option you have is to release your art materials not under Open Source, but under a license which does not allow redistribution of the textures. Or simply use textures from another source which can be used under Open Source ofcourse. Kind regards, Marcel Vijfwinkel I'm still not convinced with his answer but until there is more clear licence or even answer by our laywers (Do we have?)I want to remove the whole history. [Flightgear-devel] A light cone effect, dev version
Hi! I made an example of a light cone effect. It is a post processing effect, that makes an object illuminate everything inside of it. It would be usefull for landing lights or similar objects. This version uses blending, but the final version should use stencil buffer, once/if we get effects to support them. Because of the blending, the lighting value is 1.5 * the value of the underlying pixel. This means that during night, the light will not be very visible... I found no way to overcome this without the whole cone/model becoming visible. One way to cheat this is to add the object multiple times, since the lighting cumulates. Also fog does not work correctly. Attached is the effect file. I also had to make simple vertex and fragment shaders to get the effect working. Also, I attached an example of the cone model and its xml. Two screenshots from during the development is here: http://users.tkk.fi/~lapelto2/fgfs/fgfs-light.png and http://users.tkk.fi/~lapelto2/fgfs/fgfs-light2.png I hope someone finds this dev version usefull, maybe after the release we can get a real one :) Lauri (Zan on IRC) -- Lauri Peltonen lauri.pelto...@gmail.com light-cone.eff Description: Binary data light-cone.vert Description: Binary data light-cone.frag Description: Binary data light-cone.ac Description: Binary data ?xml version=1.0? If you could give me an exact list of path + filename for each file you would like to see removed I can do this. I hate to guess or assume or have to string dots together to arrive at [hopefully] the right answer. Thank you in advance, Curt. [Flightgear-devel] Web + Design Competition
Since were in the new decade, maybe its time for a new look also for the new release, also. A Design competition for the new website and logo would be a nice. Brief. Design a new website and image that will make it cool for flight simulation enviroment, thats functional and will last this coming decade. or something like that.. ohh and the deadlines next Saturday (should sort the wood from chaff) Winner gets a T-Shirt.. and a Joystick (I'll cover that) and a tshirt just a thought.
