Well, I'm a user of the TerraGear toolchain for a couple of years now and I've been experiencing crashes in 'fgfs-construct' from the very early attempts - even without customized but instead also with using just the stock VMap0 land cover data. Ralf Gerlich has spent a lot of time into investigating the various causes and found out that not only the code itself is affected by bugs (as every piece of software is) but also the entire _design_ of the polygon-clipping and -cleaning is desperately begging for improvement. To my experience, things are getting worse the more detailed the land cover data is. Why do you think am I trying to assemble a replacement for the entire vector processing stage ;-) Cheers, Martin. -- Unix _IS_ user friendly - it's just selective about who its friends are ! -- -- Colocation vs. Managed Hosting A question and answer guide to determining the best fit for your organization - today and in the future. http://p.sf.net/sfu/internap-sfd2d ___ Flightgear-devel mailing list Flightgear-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/flightgear-devel

Re: [Flightgear-devel] TerraGear Problem
Hey! I seem to get the same problem as John (email attached below, since it's been a while since it was posted). Please see the attached log for the output that I got. Not very useful I think... Isn't there a debug option, like we have on fgfs? The previous build from Fred works fine (2009/06/14 that is, the current/broken one is 2010/10/02); but this lacks some features that should be available on current TerraGear. I already contacted Fred about this, but he claims it isn't a problem of his build and thus must be a bug in the code. So, do others experience the same? [Flightgear-devel] TerraGear Problem
Hi, I'm using the most recent .exe build of TerraGear from the uni-duisburg website. I believe I have followed all the steps properly to set up the work directory - I have run hgtchop, terrafit, genapts, and ogr-decode on everything, and have a work folder which appears to resemble what it should resemble. However I am getting a problem with fgfs-construct when it goes to clip the shapefiles - the shapefiles should be properly clipped to each other already, but the program crashes immediately after it tries to clip the files for the first time. I originally thought it was a problem with ocean - there is one tile in the scenery build which is all ocean (it's a 2x4 degree build) and even after removing that from the cycle it still crashes on first instance. I have no idea what the exact error is because this is an executable on Windows XP and the error crash doesn't give you any good information on what happened. How might I fix this problem, not including compiling the program myself? Re: [Flightgear-devel] terragear problem
Do your intermediate files (before terrafit) look good? Is it an hgtchop problem or a terrafit problem? Double check your paths very carefully, that's usually where things can go wrong. Curt. [Flightgear-devel] terragear problem
Hi, I cannot build a correct tile with 3' arc srtm file. there is no elevation. All the tile is a big plan. So what's wrong with it? I'm trying to build like this : for i in data/srtm-eurasia-3/*.hgt.zip; do hgtchop 1 $i work/SRTM-Eurasia-3; done (in a single line :-) ) ./terrafit.py -m 50 -x 3000 -e 2 work/ But all is working with dem 30'arc (but it's with the demchop program). I have applied the patch to simgear for newbucket.hxx and I take a look to files rendering after the terrafit script, I not see abnormal things. with 30' arc 427 +6. +43.8750 630.00 +6. +43.8833 549.00 with 3' arc 3000 +6. +43.8750 0.00 +6. +43.90527778 0.00 +6. +43.9083 431.00 Thanks in advance, Didier. -- Didier Fabert [EMAIL PROTECTED] KFreeFlight project : A FlightGear GUI-Frontend designed for KDE users http://kfreeflight.sourceforge.net - Take Surveys.
