Re: [Flightgear-devel] Re: FlightGear logged its first real flight!

2004-09-15 Thread Olivier Soussiel
The problem with smaller movies is that we loose some details...

Thanks to Martin the real flight video is now available at :
ftp://ftp.uni-duisburg.de/FlightGear/Misc_ols/

If both videos (real and FG playback) are started at the same time we have
a good idea of the accuracy/limitations of GPS-FlightGear display.

Olivier

One suggestion: you may want to archive the movies so they are smaller in
 size.

Thanks for your help, I'm interrested.
I have installed EFTP Server on my PC. (It's a freeware Encrypted FTP

My IP, for the next following hours, is 82.65.98.125

I've allowed unencrypted FTP connection so, it should work with any FTP
program I guess.
Tell me if something is going wrong. (maybe out of the devel list, my email
is [EMAIL PROTECTED])
Up to now I have only the video taped of real LFBR landing.
Flight Gear Playback mov is not ready yet, it will be very soon (today or
tomorrow at least) on the same folder.

Olivier

I could host a couple of movies that size.

By the way, how did you made a movie out of Flight Gear playback?

I've not done it yet.
I'll read GPS data recorded during the real flight and send them to FG.
Then I will vdo tape my PC screen.

Well, for now, I finished the Flight Gear Playback movie of LFBR landing.
It's available for download through FTP for the next couple of hours with my

ftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/LFBR_Landing_Real.AVI (82.1 Mo)
ftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/LFBR_Landing_FG.AVI (18.3 Mo)

Please note there is no post processing of the GPS data. What we see in
hereabove FG playback is what I saw on my PC during the real flight with a
1Hz GPS datastream. What I mean here is that we can improve significantly a
real flight playback with post processing (filtering, etc...) The problem
with filtering during real flight is that it generates latencies (and 1 sec
GPS latency is already a lot for attitude display)
The altitude jumps we notice near the ground are due to the low GPS altitude
accuracy (and not to related to my friend landing ability ;-)

Would love to try your tiny program and modified fdm is it sharable ?

Yes, just tel me how to send you the source code.

Actually, I have two tiny programs...

One, named GPS Data Recorder, that reads and records NMEA data from a
serial port (RS232), computes the estimate of A/C attitude and sends the
approriate data to FG FDM for real time display.

One, named GPS Data Emulator, that reads NMEA sentences recorded into
hereabove file, computes the estimate of A/C attitude and sends the
approriate data to FG FDM for playback display.

Actually very keen to see the results,

Well I'm still looking for free space on someone server to put my video on.

I've got a Sharp Zaurus linux pda with a Haicom gps card,

My tiny programs works well under Windows. I really don't know if they are
easy to modify for Linux. (I have so much difficulty to make them work under
windows, so the linux compatibility is an other story...)

One bit I didn't quite understand was can you feed flights you have
already recorded through this program ?

Yes.
