Re: [Flightgear-devel] Installed, doesn't run.

2010-06-13 Thread stefan riemens
Just a general FYI, installing the nvidia driver is not really that
hard in fedora, you just need to know how to do it:
1) Install the rpmfusion repos (rpmfusion.org contains instructions)
2) Run yum install kmod-nvidia -- this will install the driver
3) Edit /etc/grub.conf (as root), adding nomodeset to every line
starting with kernel
4) Reboot

Done!

My install of flightgear ran fine once the non-free nvidia drivers got
installed (which was VERY EASY with Ubuntu. and which proved to be V E R Y
difficult with both Debian and fedora).

In fact I've just spent the entire day at an install fest put on by a
local Linux users group, and we never did get them installed in either of
those systems !!! We finally gave up up frustration!

I just yesterday read that Ubuntu 10.4 by default installs video drivers
without hardware acceleration. You'll need to set the desktop settings
to the highest available fanciness to let the system select the NVidia
proprietary drivers.

Maybe this has something to do with it?

Not sure what the problem might be , since I did the same thing 2 days ago
and it runs without problems here , on an AMD Athlon XP with an NVIDIA 6200
series graphics card... just a thought , but I did have to remove pulseaudio
to get another app to run without segfaulting during Openal initialization.
I didnt have a problem with FlightGear (1.9.1) with pulseaudio though.
Cheers
