I am not sure why this change would be disruptive. It only changes the

Tested, and it works *somehow* (for some value of somehow ;-) ). Now, with
this version (r8259), I can type dead keys, but they show immediately

The arrow keys and the delete-to-right key don't work anymore
under WIN32 for both the input and editor test programs.
